Should I play other Elder Scrolls games before ESO?

Post » Sat Mar 01, 2014 6:02 am

Hello,

I am entirely new to this game, I have received beta invites but have always been out of town for them. I am currently downloading the beta client, but looks like its going to take days, so not sure about this weekends test. I haven't played any of these games yet. But I like to play online games. (coming from WoW , SWTOR, and GW2) Do I need to play any of the older Elder Scrolls games to get the story, background, lore? Or can I just start playing ESO and pick it all up. AM I missing out on anything? FYI, I have PC and xbox 360.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums :D

ESO is 1000 years before the core series of ES titles, but it won't hurt to try them out anyway

Get Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim if you can. Skyrim may be a good start for you so you can be familiar with TES.

I'd say you're missing out on great games if you choose to skip them, But as far as present day lore with regards to ESO, anything important involving ESO will likely be gone over ad nauseam within the game.

Thank you! Ok I may try out Skyrim at least. I looked online and its only $20 at Gamestop now.

Thanks. Yeah, I heard that they were good games, but I don't have a lot of time to play video games, and just never got around to them. I think I will pick up skyrim for xbox 360 and try it out in the meantime.

Thanks for the replies!

I wouldn't.. because then you won't wanna play this.. I'm already itching to re-install skyrim since this game is creating a giant void in my gaming desires.

It would help. Personally I would start with Oblivion. Then to really get into to the lore you could read the fifty gazillion books that are everywhere. :)

It probably wouldn't help your ability to play ESO very much, but I say you SHOULD play them... just because they are great, extremely fun games!
