They're completely different games, really. If you love all the themes and the story and all that then you'd probably enjoy them though.

They're great games, to me and many others superior to Fallout 3, although you should keep in mind that gameplay-wise they're very different from Fallout 3, and not every Fallout 3 fans likes that gameplay style, even if many do.

Fallout (the original) had the best main plot of the series, with an excellent atmosphere and none of the plot holes found in Fallout 3 (some of which were big enough to pitch a cat through).

If you can overcome the learning curve (knowledge on FO3's S.P.E.C.I.A.L. won't serve you here) and the superior dialogue options then go for it.

If you want to maintain your high opinion of Fallout 3, I'd warn against it.

As someone who played them all from the beginning back in the 90's, I find that I like Fallout 3, but not for many of the same reasons I liked the original games. So the converse will be true for people who started with Fallout 3. Just because you enjoy one doesn't really mean you're going to like the others. Because like has been said, they are very different games from each other.

On the other hand - you can find the originals for relatively cheap... :)

Hahaha... that's funny... not really true, but funny.

Anyway, as others said they are very different games. FO3 is an action/RPG hybrid with FPS gaming, and the old games are pure RPGs with isometric grid-based gameplay and turn-based combat... it's like the different between Oblivion and Final Fantasy, in size.

They are great games though, for sure. They are so cheap to get I would advise any RPG fan get them, really...

If you liked the storyline, go for it. It's pretty cool.

On the other hand, the actual style of the game is vastly different. I find it to be kinda a drag, since I'm so used to how awesome FO3 is, and I prefer the fighting style... but I played it for the story, which is pretty good. XD

I started with FO3, and my brother already had 1&2, I just never played it or saw him playing it. After I played FO3 thought, I heard everyone on the forums talking about 1&2 so I thought I should play them so I know what they're talking about. FO1, I didn't really get into it. But I played FO2 and I love it, after I got used to the combat and everything, I play it all the time.

Just remember your going back in time 10 years. The graphics are old and game speeds are much slower. The tecnical expertise is far greater though with respect to game flow and immersion as they call it. You get to control all the moves of your NPC friends, so its like you have many charaters, notjust yourself to control. In Fallout 3 battles usually last seconds. In Fallout 1&2 they last minutes even 10s of minutes.

As I have said in these forums before. Fallout 2 is one of my all-time favorite games.

Do you like drugs, prostitution, and shooting little kids in the groin? Rhetorical question, everybody does, Fallout 1 and 2 are the best games ever made, you should definitely play them.
