Should Skyrim have gore and dismemberment like Fallout?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:19 am

Blood spatter on the ground/weapon and armor fine. Swinging my sword and watching someone blow up(like shooting someone with a BB gun in fallout and there head and arms fly off) no.

If you take the axe perk, with the bleed effect if they don't physically bleed it would look silly. I don't expect exploding bodies but I do expect something better then oblivions blood.

I think there should be a perk for this, so sensitive people could avoid the gore by not selecting it, while others like me could enjoy the full barbarian simulation to its fullest.

Bring on the gore, to relatively realistic proportions! I found the Bloody Mess perk in Fallout amusing at first but it very quickly got dull and bland. I hope Skyrim's combat finishes are brutal, bloody but not over the top of stylized. Just, you know, something like the fatalities in AoC (youtube it ^^). :)

Todd said in the podcast that "there would be no over the top fallout violence" when asked about the game's rating.

Like Fallout? No. That's Fallout, it's supposed to be ridiculously over the top.

Dismemberment within reason is really a no brainer in a game where people kill each other with swords/axes etc. though.

Only if you can cut their arm off without them being dead already...fallouts gore was extremely unrealistic. I want it to be where if you cut their leg off they live for a minute. but with healing spells i highly doubt they will put any of that into it.

Why not the dismemberment/limbs tearing from Bulletstorm?

If there's dismemberment, arrows will be included in the physic, which would include weardeness...

Fallout was excessive - it really isn't important and got repetative and boring really quick.

Oh boy.. I can see it now..

I thrust my dagger into my foe's back. *Critical Hit!*

....

***ESPLODES***

LOL no thanks. I know they have cool animations for crits and what-not now, depending on the weapon, so that somewhat implies a certain level of gore.
We'll see.

I want realistic gore. :)

Me too. If realistic means gore and lots of blood then I want gore.

Todd says "It's realistic violence" and "More brutal than Oblivion".

I would still like to make Blood optional though for PC and consoles.

None, and I don't dislike gore. Ripping people's libs off in combat is over the top and unrealistic.

I don't dislike gore but I just don't see a good reason for dismemberment to be in Skyrim.

EDIT: Abstained from voting since I'm not given an option to my opinion without having words put in my mouth.

In the GECK you could prevent that by unchecking a single box. I don't think i need to say much more to prove you wrong here, this makes no sense at all.

Didn't you hear the new podcast?
Todd stated that the gore will be nowhere near as intense as Fallout, but there will still be some more realistic than Oblivion.

Exactly.....don't forget we have finishing moves too.
They are bound to be brutal. I don't mind gore, but not like fallout.
I wonder how many of you that don't want gore at all, want werewolves and vampires back.....just saying.
Does it seem wrong that we can set people on fire/burn them with magic, but not allow a little gore for an impailing move with a weapon.
It works both way's in my opinion.
There as to be some level of gore ,it's not cheesy at all if done right.

I don't want over-the-top level gore just for the sake of itself, but if I swung a 20lb axe directly at someone's arm it better have some visual effects.

I agree with you on that one. Not that I have any problem with it myself, but some of us might have kids gettign to the age where they're mature enough for low fantasy, but still don't feel they can handle blood/gore.

If it's a pain to implement though, I wouldn't push too hard to get the option in. It would just be a few more years until they would be ready for it...

Realistic levels only; I'm talking "REAL REAL" not video gaming real. So what it really looks like when you cave in someones face with a mace, should be in the game. ect and so on

The only RPG to my knowledge that simply masters the art of gore is Severance : Blade of Darkness [also known as Blade : The Edge of Darkness]

here's just a simple demo --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcnoPXLzeTY

I think devs wont mistake if they implement a mutilation system, provided it fits well into the atmosphere of TES ;)
