Should Skyrim have gore and dismemberment like Fallout?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:02 pm

Yes... as long as it's realistic and not over the top. I like the idea of finishing moves... they should be required for any kind of gore. But there should only be like a 10% chance of a really gory finishing move. Otherwise the game might start to seem like Gears of War or something... which would be bad.

Like Fallout? No. That's Fallout, it's supposed to be ridiculously over the top.

Dismemberment within reason is really a no brainer in a game where people kill each other with swords/axes etc. though.

What he said.

There will be finishing moves so why not a bit of dismemberment ? Not as gory as fallout's but there should be . I think it would fit right with the finishing moves.

I chose none. The Elder Scrolls isn't Fallout. The two series are completely different (or at least should be). As I've said before Fallout is a much more mature, vicious, and controversial series. The Elder Scrolls is wacky, medievel-esque, and falls under "ADVENTURE!".

I would like for there too be some gore, not excessive amounts like in fallout though. Some blood and minor flesh wounds would be fantastic if done well. Maybe there could be some severed heads at the gallows but thats all I want for dismemberment.

Not as over the top as Fallout, but the odd decap and lopped off limb would be nice, yes.

I think that would fit in nicely as Skyrim has a more grim and brutal look to it, along with the whole viking/nordic theme. Brutal weapons should have a brutal consequence when used.

Oblivion was nice enough but felt more "cartoon like" in it`s visuals.

I think the tread title misguides ppl of the point of having a gore system, but that's OP's fault. It's not about having the "right exact system" as the Fallout game but having a gore system that fit's with the atmosphere of TES, makes sense when you wield a sharp weapon and is not overexaggerating. There are some very good posts around the tread you may want to read ;- )

But i can't blame you for your conclusion ;)

Pinning someone to a wall with an arrow, that would be nice P=
Also if you need take someones head, ear, finger, heart, etc as proof you killed them... it should look like you cut it off/out right? >_>

If it done like in The Witcher and Dragon Age Origins yes. Unlike those two game but like Fallout the character suffers the same when dead.

But that's the thing. Gore simply doesn't fit the spirit of TES at all. It's a light-hearted fantasy. Not a dark-humored Sci-Fi.

Thank the Nine Three. :goodjob:

Fixed that for ya! (everyone knows Temple is cooler than Imperial Cult! )
Anyway. I'm happy that they don't have over-the-top violence in Skyrim. Oblivion's amount was just about perfect (okay, maybe add a little bit more), and Todd said that they don't want to overdo it.

Not gonna happen, Todd already said its not.

Actually Todd said that Skyrim is going to be more gory than previous TES games.

First Fallout 3 was amusing, hard to shoot the head of somebody with a 9 mm pistol while the mini nuke did not make a bloody mess on nearby targets.
Had been far better with some relevance do damage, all for dismemberment if logical, finishing move with a two hand sword or axe, if would require that you did a great damage in the hit compared with the target so no cutting head of orges but you could cut of a hand.
You can cut the head of humans with a one hand sword if lucky and they don't wear much armor.

I don't want it. Too excessive in violence for my taste.
I think it would be funny if the player's character lost some limbs, just to make it fair and "realistic", but then what are you going to do?

yes it would be pretty fair but would generate a problem if you specialised in two hands weapons and lost a hand and was unable to find it.

Hmm, you have a point. What if they make it optional? We've seen a lot of games that have the option to adjust the gore level - switch it on/off, set the level of gore, etc. That way they will please both sides, don't you agree? ;)

I don't want ridiculous gore like in Fallout but if I strike someone in the head with my mace, their head should be caved-in. And if strike at an enemies arm with my sword, it should have a chance of being cut off.

More important are wounds. There should be bloodied spots on an enemies body if I pierce it with a blade.

Realistic gore; aka not video game realistic but real life realistic.

What does it look like when you gut someone; that should be in the game. What does it look like when you use a mace on a human face...that to.

Much more "brutal" than fallout is realism because it effects us at our core more so than arcade gore.

Seriously guys watch a video of someone getting beaten to death by blunt weapons; or look at pictures of massive knife/sword wounds or blunt damage wounds.

Thats what i want

i want real, no arcade not videogame "real', but IRL REAL.

I think there are small chances for dismemberments in Skyrim. It would be just too unrealistic. Other thing is an executioner or a butcher taking off the head of his victim, lying in appropriate position, with time to aim and perform good, precise swing, and the other thing is to fight wiht an aware enemy, capable of blocking/evading. Gore in Fallout was sort of funny, intentionally exaggerated but there is no place for it in Skyrim (maybe some easter egg?).

Anyway, in one of podcasts, Todd said that Skyrim takes some features from Fallout. Does anyone know if there will be different hit areas in Skyrim? You know, like in Fallout, but without excessive violence. You could slow down your enemy by hitting in its legs or disarm him by striking in hands. It was possible to damage an enemy's armour in Oblivion, but why not being able to cripple him?

In real life if you slash someone's arm with a two handed longsword it's a pritty safe bet that your going to take that arm cleanoff so yea it would be nice to see that in the game.

No, I remember the first time I played Fallout and I cut some guys leg off, I was like "GyaAAd!!!!" My little brother thought it was cool though. I wouldn't like that sort of thing, but it would seem more realistic if after being hacked at and punctured by arrows and swords, that a body would show some sign of damage.
