Should Skyrim have gore and dismemberment like Fallout?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:30 am

After playing the new fallout games,I really like the gore effects and excessive emphasis on dismemberment ,but considering the fact that skyrim will have swords and bows and arrows,we might not see as much gore content or probaly none similar to oblivion ,but I will still like to see a intense sword fight end with my blade amputating my opponents arms, legs, etc.

Not like Fallout but to a much lesser extent. You should add a poll

While the gore in Fallout may fit the Fallout series, the Elder Scrolls series is a different style of game with a different focus.
Personally I think both series have their merits and demerits but also that both of them should remain distinctly different in how they feel and incorporating elements from the other would blur the differences between the two. Which if taken too far would result something which would feel the same whether you're playing an Elder Scrolls 'episode' or a Fallout 'episode' of it.

+1

I was very glad to see that - there is absolutely no reason to have that level of gore in a TES game in order for it to be Fun. Blood spattering and decals is what I expect we will see.

Gore doesn't bother me. In life in video games in anything. Fallout gore works for Fallout and is perfectly fine there. I would be ok with it in TES if it is not overly done or outrageous or just done in a "classy artistical" non-shock value sorta way. If not I won't lose sleep over it because TES will still always be epic.

No. This is TES remember. Seperate the two. It wouldn't fit.

It's really hard to tell.

I know a lot of people didn't like it, but I think the Fallout 3 gore was a great fit for the Fallout 3 atmosphere. It was supposed to be a very violent and brutal wasteland in Fallout 3. I'm not talking about the Bloody Mess perk gore which was of course over the top.

In Skyrim it might be different. Because while it may be rugged, Skyrim is not a devastated wasteland. It's a province that lots of people choose to live in. So there huge amounts of gore all the time might not fit.

Given the title I guess your talking about gore during fights. Since Skyrim will likely not have Combat Shotguns or Missile Launchers then it might not make as much sense. If you shoot someone with a bow, I doubt their head would pop off (unless they are a skeleton of course). But I could imagine a rare case of an arm being severed if it's hacked enough with a claymore. But only rarely.

There the is the gore you might see lying around. Particularly in dungeons. Then I could see bloody corpses or body parts strewn around certain dungeons. Both Oblivion and Fallout 3 had that. I would certainly that kind of gore to be part of the game in some locations.

I dont mind seeing blood in real life or in videogames, but dismemberment seems to always look goofy in games, so Im glad its not in TES

And for all the people aruging that TES =/= Fallout 3, not only is that not the point, but Todd may disagree with you on that one. Each series clearly borrows ideas from one another. And that is not a bad thing.

Didn't you hear the new podcast?
Todd stated that the gore will be nowhere near as intense as Fallout, but there will still be some more realistic than Oblivion.

I'll have to settle for agreeing with these, since I refuse to vote in the biased poll. Would a simple, unadorned "No" option be so difficult?

I don't want it. Too excessive in violence for my taste.
I think it would be funny if the player's character lost some limbs, just to make it fair and "realistic", but then what are you going to do?

While I don't like gore, there probably should be an option between "dismemberment" and "I don't like gore" in the poll.

I think options are a good thing. I like being able to turn gore off. If it's not that bad I'm not too worried about it though.

And that's what Todd said on the GI podcast
[...] "There is more violence to the combat just in how it looks. Not like Fallout violence where it gets really over the top. It's more a realistic level of violence for what it is with guys with swords and axes and those sorts of things."

While over the top gore worked in Fallout, I hoped for a more realistic approach in Skyrim and that's what we are getting.

The fallout level of gore wouldnt suit for a TES game, but when did TH state that there would be no dismemberment?
Having people waving axes and claymores I dont find it out of place for the occasional loss of an arm or head, I actually expected dismemberment to be included in the Skyrim combat, atleast as a part of "finishing" moves and animations. Ridiculous levels of gore, No! Dismemberment, yes!

Can someone please let me know when this was stated, I thought I was as updated as I could get until now.

A little bit but have it be Realistic to the game and if it's in don't have it be as overdone as it was in Fallout 3.
