Should Skyrim have a long tutorial at the beginning like Obl

Post » Sat Feb 20, 2010 10:32 am

I was fine with it. It was ok in Oblivion and excellent in Fallout 3. And it's not like you couldn't save just before you leave the sewers or Vault 101.

What i would really like is Origin stories who sometimes gives you a slightly different experience like in DAO. Now that would kick ass.

Optional, I like to play it for the first time, since there might be some new mechanics (a given with the new engine), but after that I never want to touch it again. In Oblivion I just ended up keeping a save in front of the Sewer Exit in-case I wanted to make a new character.

It should be optional but it should be long and be able to show you most of what you need to do in the game.

A long in depth tutorial is fine, as long as I can skip it on subsequent playthroughs if I so choose.

I would want it shorter but still have the option to make any changes to the character kinda similar to what Oblivion did when you reached the end of the sewers.

I want a tutorial but only a very short one. The tutorial in Morrowind was too short and the one in Oblivion too long.

You do realize that there is a reason why Bethesda gave you the option to save and completely revamp your character just before you left the sewers (and Vault 101) right?

There should be a tutorial, but it should be optional. One thing I did like about the way oblivion did things was that I could save before exiting the sewers to prevent having to play the tutorial over and over. Morrowind was more annoying, although the quickchar mod allowing me to skip that sequence.

No. The Oblivion and Fallout 3 tutorials were annoying as hell - something like what New Vegas did would feel much better.

I liked Morrowind and Oblivion's tutorials, it helped introduce the game. Save just before the end so you don't need to repeat them and 'Shazzam', everyone is happy.

When you get down to it Oblivion's tutorial was not that long

I mean people are acting like it took an eternity when it took like 20 minutes max to get through it. Compared to the 100+ hours people spent on the rest of the game 20 minutes in the starting dungeon is nothing.

It got too damn repetitive. I'd rather they either make it skippable or (even better, but more resource intensive) create multiple starts. Not a ton, but maybe three or so, so you get some variety with your second or third character. They could tie it to your Mage/Thief/Fighter archetype selection, and start you in a different town with a different set of initial main quests.

Seriously, what's wrong with you people? I am just gonna say this one more time before i hurt my head and wall. You DON'T have to take the tutorial in Oblivion more than once. You can save and revamp your character just before you leave the sewers and you will never have to take the tutorial again. If it's that hard for you to play through a 20-25 minutes long tutorial, then maybe you should just use it.

You need an introduction to new games...
To make it as "long" as Oblivion's is absolutely fine I think. It's good.
You get to learn your way around, feel comfortable with everything, get some background story, and then you're off!

If it's too short, I'm sure a lot of people would complain "I just got thrown into this big new world and no idea what to do!!!".
Keep it as in Oblivion. Making it optional would just be weird.
If you don't like it... start a new game, go through the tutorial, then save and keep that save for all eternity. Tada, problem solved.

I think the tutorial to Oblivion was very well done, as it was implemented into an important and exciting part of the storyline.
I can only wish that the intro/turorial in Skyrim goes something along the lines of being stuck in a frozen hellhole of a prison in Skyrim and having to break out. That would be awesome, or maybe my mind is still stuck in the Vorkuta breakout in Black Ops. :whistling:

At first I voted Yes, then I changed it to Refined. I don't understand why people say Oblivion or Fallout 3 was too long. I thought it was ok. New Vegas was horrible and should never be done again. I guess people forget there are alot of people who never played the game before. So you need a tuturial to get people into the game. Also even for "experiance" players, you need to adjust to the new world and get use to the changes from the previous edtion, other wise we wil have the "well I played it this way in Oblivion why is it so different in Skyrim?" If I was a person who never played Oblivion or Fallout 3, I can see New Vegas be a little lost for people who never played before.

What I really wish Bethesda would do is, when you reach that final part, exit the sewers/vault or in the case of New Vegas, it would warn you that you would not be able to change your character anymore or even better make a permanent save once you completed the tuturial so you don't have to do it again if you do not wish to do so.

I really liked Oblivions and it was pretty interesting, plus it did give you some background info, Morrowinds may have been shorter but it was as boring as heck
