Should Skyrim let you wear what you kill?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:42 pm

I'm not sure if this has been coverd before, but I was thinking, in Skyrim wouldnt it be cool if when you killed a beast weather it be a Dragon or Bear etc.
Rather than just stripping them of flesh and other parts and selling it on or using it in alchemy, you could actually intergrate it into your Weapons, Armour or Clothing giving you more time to customise as you play through the game.

When you watch the trailer the main guy clearly has a helmet with what looks like Dragon Claws attatched, and this got me thinking... did he buy it like that or did he add those on?

Not only do I think this would be a great option in the game but as you get better at things like Armourer skills later on, it might even be possible for these upgrades to boost the effects of the items you have equiped ie. more dps or defence etc.

What do you think?

I think it sounds good - crafting is in, right? Maybe that's part of it. Or if you don't specialise in crafting (maybe through perks or something) you can get clothing etc. commissioned for a fee (possibly quite expensive) when you hunt down the right components.

I dunno, but my glancing at the boards suggests that this might be part of the crafting skills that are coming in, and as you say, would work well with the armorer skill set.

Also, I think there were mods in OB for this, so it could be possible.

At least they wouldn't be dead weight ;)

Although I'm pretty sure the helmet is bought like that, I think it would be nice to use animal fur/claws/fangs for something other than selling and decoration. Crafting wolf and bear armour like those of Bloodmoon would be nice, and maybe make some wolf/dragon fang amulets that can be enchanted.

I would also love a nice furry coat. :sleep2:

Well I think crafting's in Skyrim. So im guessing you can make armour from the skin you loot.

Yeah, that would be cool. I can see wearing a half cloak out of bear fur with or without a bearskull cap, or taking out a Dragon and fashioning something out of Dragon scales (although you'd have to be high level Smith to be able to do that).

If nothing else, maybe it could be allowed later through (free!) DLC or whatever.

Again I have this in craftybits, kill animals or monsters, skin them and make clothes or armor of the hide, best armor is daedrot worst is rat, and yes you can also use the bones for bonemold armor or arrow tips.

This in a nutshell. You should be able to make anything out of anything. clothes out of hide, furniture out of those tree monsters, swords or armor out of dragonbones, etc.

Dragonskin armor sounds nice, however it should be limits as if I kill a Nord with a long beard I don’t think I would use it. A female Khajiit with a long beard would look stupid.

I have to disagree with you there. Just because we wouldn't want to, doesn't mean the player should be limited in any way. You should be able to make some kind of weapon out of a rat (a rat flail?), but it shouldn't be in any way effective. If I want to make a rug out of the beards of my foes, then so be it.

Dragon Skin yes... Especially the helm, which would have to look atleast slightly dragonish, not like a cap with scales. Though I love this idea. They could take it farther and be able to use most things.

The skins, pelts and furs you get from creatures should either be used to craft armour, or you could sell it for a decent price. In Oblivion, they were worth next to nothing. >.<

Pelts were worth as much as or even more than some gems. That seems okay.

Doesn't wearing pelts make you look like too much of a dandy?

The idea of wearing a wolf pelt sounds appealing though.

A dragon will be sure to wipe that ridiculous smirk of your face in a second!

Ahem, but yes, maybe not to the extent that has been discussed in this thread, but I really think it would be cool to have killing animals be more meaningful in terms of what you get and how much it's worth. (In oblivion you couldn't really play a hunter when you're getting a lousy ten gold for everything you stalk down).

For example, I don't think rats should have anything extra, but if you cant take bones and fur from more powerful foes like wolves and bears... that would be pretty dope.

But Nord in Khajiit pelt armor will not :teehee: from Argonian hide can be done great boots also.

Would be awesome for crafting.
But it has to be a lot of seperate parts from an animal to get full benefit. Not just "meat".

:) good answer, however I think we bout see the problem with using the skin of something we killed as armor.
It did not protect it's previous user well enough. However this also apply to looted armor.
I would prefer skin from an animal I was unable to kill.

Well, I voted yes before fully understanding the intent I guess. I assumed you meant taking armors for other humanoids to wear. This is a must absolutely. As for being able to "wear" animal hides and such. Not sure that is necessary. You don't just skin a bear and wear its hide. Hides have to go through a pretty extensive tanning process before they would actually be usable. The hide would start rotting in short order and would most likely have the effect of drawing in other predators/scavenger by its shear smell alone.

Taking alchemy ingredients though is also another must have, certainly.
