Should Skyrim be pushed back?

Post » Fri Aug 13, 2010 11:17 pm

They should push back Skyrim a good year because I just know come November 11, 2011 when it is scheduled for release they will have to Patch something anyways. They always do.

So they need an entire extra year?

Umm....are you crazy?! You really want to wait another year?

I don't care if it is the buggiest game ever, I don't want to wait even one more day extra. I'd rather play a buggy version than nothing at all.

Call of Duty has turned into the iPhone/iPod. A fairly unchanged product released year after year with just mere updates for the full price while "fans" of this product continue to buy the newest update at release. Never liked Apple for this reason, among other reasons, same goes for Call of Duty, it's just a small update each release that's not worth the full price, now if they halved the price, maybe that would do better, but since this is Activision, you won't even see any of their new releases under the $60 mark now that they know people will pay for it. Hell on Steam Call of Duty 4 is $30, 4 years after release while most games go down below that price in less time, sometimes in less than a year after release. Activision won't even take part in a sale by lowering their prices, and yes it's the publishers who set the prices not just distributors.

So to respond to TC, no... Bethesda chose that date and plan on sticking with it and so far they're on time to meet that date so why would they delay or release earlier just because an inferior product which happens to be of the same general product type (video game) is releasing that week? That's absolutely stupid and would look bad for Bethesda for backing down on this marketing plan of theirs to release on 11-11-11.

honestly.. Not even remotely interested in Call of Duty. I used to be a huge fan of CoD and somewhere midway through MW2 I started to hate all the camping and bullcrap. This game will stand on it's own merit.. it's not like it is an FPS. If rage came out the same day MW3 did then I can see some sale conflicts but even then Rage is more interesting than CoD.

yup... Not to mention Call of Duty is way overrated, i used to love to play MW2 at my friends house until i got a new Xbox and i bought black ops instead. Had no idea it would be so terrible.

I don't think they should be concerned.

I don't really even see why it's so popular. The second one was kind of cool with the class system but other than that it felt like a standard fps.

It should be released 9.10.11....the second coolest date of the year. Although that day falls on a Saturday...it's unlikely.

nothing could weaken the sales of skyrim

I know what could hurt the sales of skyrim, my failbox breaking. (Before you get mad at that comment please understand Im on my 9th Xbox since launch. I own 75ish games and I love it, but it's a failbox, as opposed to my PS3 from launch which is still fine but I only own 10 games for)

If that happens again then I'd only get a PC copy. But Im planning on getting both. Atleast one of which will be a CE (assuming they do a CE.)

Given that the gaming business is a retail industry. Most game companies want to hit that holiday sweet spot. Which is what Bethesda is doing with this game.

If they are confident they can ship it that date, then I'll back their play. No amount of delays will get all the bugs out of product. To prove my point see Biowares products for the last 5 years. Better yet, see Mercenaries II: World in Flames.

As to Modern Warfare its true that historically the franchise carries with it a certain neutron bomb factor with it when it comes out, wiping out all other products in its wake.

Also it's true that Online Shooters are a cash cow, especially on consoles nowadays.

However the franchise has been receiving some very stiff competition this past year in the form of the Battlefield Franchise, Battlefield 3 is slated to come out this summer I believe.

Furthermore Bethesda's own Brink is slated to be coming out this year as well. In short Activisions cash bonanza will receive some pretty heavy competition from its own gene through out the year, which could draw sales away form MW3 and vs versa.

In anycase as many people pointed out Skyrim and MW3 are apples and oranges, apart from both being first person games, there not really in the same gene. Not only that one is a strictly single player experience and the other is meant to be an online one.

Slightly off topic, and not to take away from brink which promises to be a good game, but I'd suspect that one of the reasons Bethesda is making Brink is to get people to shut the hell up about multiplayer Skyrim and Fallout.

The only game I can think of that might share some similarities and fans is Mass Effect 3, and that game has been delayed till next year. Which seems very true to form of Bioware of late. It's almost like they're sacred to release a game during Christmas or something.

Skyrim fans are too smart to pay $60 for the same game that came out last november, in a different box.

To late.

Wow, even Blistered Thumb's Zeitgeist gave Brink a bad review, which basically boils down to him saying he can't recommend this game to anyone. The only other game I've seen him say that about is Fable 3.

To be fair though he did say that the games does have something to offer, and if the current issues the game has get fixed in a patch later on down the road, he could see it becoming good. Unlike Fable 3.

If anything, MW3 should be afraid of Skyrim. MW3 is coming out around the same time a BF3, meaning a possible split in consumers money. On the otherhand, TES fans will undoubtly buy this game regardless of MW3.

Actually its more of a question of addiction then intelligence. You see when the new game comes out the old ones servers inevitability become a ghost town. It might not happen immediately. But in a span of several months, if not sooner, they're won't be a whole lot of people to play the older game with online.

Indeed the companies might "encourage" this migration by shutting down servers for the older games. I wouldn't put it past Blizzard Activision to do just that, and since they run the servers, there's very little there customers can do about it.

So the fps players gotta buy the next game if they want to keep playing with there friends.

They don't have to change the product much, cause they really don't have to. It's almost like selling cigarettes, your customers are hooked.

I actually like playing a few bouts of BFBC 2, but I know that the game is destined to have short term replayability, especially when Battlefield 3 comes out.

Yes, there are many loyal fans and customers to Skyrim but MW3 will be released three days before. The massive influx of people who will buy MW3 would probably weaken the sales of Skyrim since everyone would be playing it. Think about it, I don't know many people who are willing to spend 120$ for both games and that's not to say that obviously there are more MW3 fans due to the massive hype. How do you think it will fare?

I couldn't care less if the sequel to a 2 star game which was a sequel to a 3 star game is coming out 3 days earlier.
