Should Skyrim be pushed back?

Post » Fri Aug 13, 2010 1:08 pm

the logic behind this topic is... about as stupid as any stupid logic i've ever seen.

so, because of gun-heads preferring the same run-and-gun game for the 10th time over skyrim, you want the TES fans to suffer?

what the hell?

NO... the only time this game should be delayed is if bethesda TRULY needs the extra time to fix something, not because of some bullet-svckers not liking skyrim more than MW3.

So if Im stupid because I like CoD, does that mean its a stupid game for stupid people? And if thats so, does it make Skyrim a stupid game because Ill get that too? Please help a stupid person understand your logic.

Here I was thinking different games are different and different people like different games for different reasons because... theyre different. Geez, Im stupid arnt I?

No you are not generally stupid (I hope). You are stupid though (like me) if you have bought every CoD game in yearly iterations since CoD 2. I'm not falling for that one anymore though. CoD is not really liked
on here because how samey the series has become because of Activisions greedy claws. It's basically the same mecahnics with a new lick of paint. Remember Black Ops' CoD points? I still think they are a
test for in-game DLC - watch out!

Personally I don't think Bethesda cares about Modern Rehash 3.

Anybody who buys MW3 after playing MW2 and Blops doesn't deserve to buy a copy of Skyrim.

I would rather watch the skyrim trailer than own a COD game.

I honestly couldnt give a damn about COD. Ive been gaming for 20 years and know an overhyped money spinner when I see one.

Yes, there are many loyal fans and customers to Skyrim but MW3 will be released three days before. The massive influx of people who will buy MW3 would probably weaken the sales of Skyrim since everyone would be playing it. Think about it, I don't know many people who are willing to spend 120$ for both games and that's not to say that obviously there are more MW3 fans due to the massive hype. How do you think it will fare?

Not at all.
Call of duty's fan base is burning out. simple as that. Any youtube video, game trailers video, or anything really, the comments have been the same.

If you say "yay call of duty!"
you get thumbs downed to hell.

If you say "Not again..."
you get 100+ thumbs up.

I'm not saying they won't make millions, but even the biggest call of duty fans are getting sick of it. How many time can you release the same game before even the most stupid people stop buying it?

This being said, a lot of people have been waiting for skyrim, it's a treat to have it.

If you eat pizza everyday, you'll get sick of it. Same rule applies, and thus I think the release of MW3 won't be such an earth shattering release as you all seem to think. Skyrim will not need to be pushed back due to this game, nor will any of the other 3-4 block busters coming out that month.

MW1 was phenomenal, both online and offline. MW2 was phenomenal online, but took a left turn at Campy for the single player experience, and having an awkward pace seemingly designed by a 7year old with ADHD and having a seizure. Black Ops had one of the worst single player experiences in the first person perspective ever. Multiplayer just added a few maps to Infinity Ward's(now lolfired) amazing MW2. By that logic, cranking out annual iterations of what amounts to an equipment and map update for 60 freaking dollars, with a tacked on single player experience that exists only to boost gamerscore... sorry, but you have to be absolutely insane to buy into that trend, I seriously question the function of your brain, mostly because these FPS franchises are built on this whole Progression system, that you basically dump every year for new shineys.

I really enjoyed MW1 and MW2 (never played earlier CoD games) but never tried Black Ops. I don't do multiplayer on these types of games. But there's no reason to be insulting questioning the functionality of my brain. Everyone has their own preferences in gameplay. I hope MW3 will be a good game, but Skyrim will be my first purchase.

I dont think that anything should be pushed back just because of MW3....You gotta remember that there are other games coming out this year too.

Assassins Creed,Deus Ex, and of course Battlefield 3, which will probably be huge.

In my ps3 community, the trend this year has been to move away from the multiplayer of COD and a huge surge of playing Battlefield Bad Company 2...Most of this was due to the issues that MW2 and BLOPS were having, and really they didnt change anything much in terms of gameplay...Sp was too short and the Multiplay did not have the impact that COD4 had...

There is always going to be a pretty huge fan base for COD games, that is unavoidable, until people start to remember the frustration involved with playing that game....maybe one day they will have the fortitude to just say, nah I dont need that in my gaming life, and move onto other things.

But having said all that rubbish, I really dont think that putting the release of anything back will make much of a difference, unless you get some kind of prize as a company for selling X number of games on the release day....players who value an excellent gaming experience will still buy Skyrim, people who want to listen to screaming kids will get back into the COD crack experience.

I was thinking about this earlier, I think that Skyrim Should not be pushed back to compete with MW3. They're both great games that are being released around my birthday (Nov.25) and i've already made up my mind on getting Skyrim because in my opinion Skyrim caters more towards my liking than MW3 but i'm overjoyed about both i'm just more excited about Skyrim. But on the flip side i'm thinking i should buy MW3 just to get that game over with before everbody starts giving spoilers on the campaign and because if i get Skyrim i'm too afraid i won't event want to touch MW3 because i'll be enjoying Skyrim too much. But right now my decision is on getting Skyrim because i've been planning on getting it longer and because i know it's a game I can play for hours without getting bored.

You do realize that the gaming industry is about profit right? Bethesda isn't going to make as much as it should due to the fact that most of the general population would buy MW3 as opposed to any other games out there. So the logic behind your reply is....about as stupid as any stupid logic i've ever seen.

No matter what the Elder scrolls series will always be #1 RPG for probably the century. No other game can compete in the long run. MW1, 2, and 3 only last so long, but with elder scrolls you will never go bored. <--- fact

Yes, IMO I think so. There's no way any other game could compete with possibly the most overrated game.

Bethesda already made such a big deal out of 11.11.11 - changing it now would be a big mistake. they have already invested a lot of PR in getting the message across that Skyrim is coming 11.11.11

Also, they knew since last year they would be releasing around the same time as the next COD and they made the call to go with November. There is a good reason why a lot of games are released in November, it's called Christmas.

I think Skyrim is going to be very successful but let's face it this is not exactly the same audience. There is a little bit of overlap but you could pick any day in the entire year and there is no way in hell Bethesda is going to sell $390 million worth of Skyrim copies on the first day.

Modern Warfare 3.

Ah, thanks! :)

No, absolutely not.

The way I see it, both games have different fanbases entirely. Sure, there are a lot of Elder Scrolls fans who like COD and vice-versa... but i'm sure if they're really fans of both then they'll get around to buying both.

People with only a casual interest in Skyrim might pass Skyrim by if some other game arrests their attention first. People determined to play Skyrim probably won't be deterred by MW3's coming out first, but they may. Interests change over time.

When Fallout 3 was released, Civilization IV occupied most of my gaming time and RPGs were on hold. When I got a hankering for RPGs again, I went back to Oblivion, and was also considering replaying Morrowind and trying out some older RPGs I missed -- such as Fallout, Planescape Torment, and Daggerfall. A month or two ago, I was finally ready to give Fallout 3 a try, but when I went to my local stores, it wasn't there. I didn't bother hunting for it online because I wasn't craving the game; I was only curious enough to give it a spin if it were on hand, which it wasn't. A couple of weeks ago, I visited a website that sells PC games and looked up Fallout 3, and found only a downloadable version. I'm finicky and I want a printed manual, darn it. Because I'm more curious about playing Fallout 3 rather than driven to play it, little things like the lack of a hardcopy manual can be a deal breaker. With Fallout 3's general unavailability, with Skyrim coming soon, with other untried RPGs already on hand, and with my interests possibly again shifting away from RPGs, it is appears very unlikely that I will ever buy Fallout 3. Such is how the timing and availablility of offerings, combined with changing tastes, can affect purchase decisions.

Wait a second. Way back in February I think, there was a podcast and Pete was asked this very question and he said they knew what games would probably be releasing in November and it didn't matter. Can anyone back me up on this?

I entirely disagree for several reasons.

1. They're very adamant about this date. A lot of trailers are based around it, and they've said many times they do not want to change it.
2. Where would they push it back to? They want it to come out before Christmas for the very reason you've stated, more money. If it was pushed back, it wouldn't be longer than a week or 2, in which case, the will likely already be gold, and will just sit with stores for an extra week, and likely see leaked releases. Make the confusion pointless.
3. I don't think there has ever been a game to announce a release date, and then move it once a bigger game has announce a similar one. I would love an example. I can name plenty of time that 2 or even 3 large games have come out on the same day, let alone the same week.
edit: The games released on the same day were Assassin's creed 2 and Left 4 dead 2.
They both came out on the 17th, which was a week after MW2
Nothing was pushed back, I think we'll be fine.
