Should Skyrim be pushed back?

Post » Fri Aug 13, 2010 9:03 am

Everybody who's going to buy Skyrim will buy it. Given how ridiculously profitable Oblivion and Fallout 3 were they've got nothing to worry about.

Yeah friday is big here in the UK and the rest of Europe. I think it's payday that's why. End of the week.

There are a couple reasons why consumer media products like DVDs, Blu-Ray, games, etc. are always released on Tuesdays in the US. (The US Sales charts are released every week based on the same Tuesday - Monday schedule)

  • store hours are usually shorter on Sundays, so if they street on Tuesday, the video store staff has time to prep the products and point of sale advertising and get everything on the shelf Monday night.

  • Friday and Saturday, retailers are flooded with customers, so you don't have time to prep for release on Saturday, Sunday or Monday

  • if they streeted on Thursday, they could sell out and then not have enough copies available to sell on the weekend. By releasing on Tuesday, they have time to order more copies for the weekend if they run out

  • If there is any shipping delay, then they still have a couple days before the weekend

  • With a Friday release date, if anything is late the retailer is screwed.

I cried from laughing so hard.
Thanks, I needed that.

I've put more time into oblivion than any other game I've ever played (with maybe the exception of FFVII)
Sure, I got bored eventually, but oblivion and RPG's aren't about your own skill as a gamer, it's about your in-game player's skill.

Quite frankly I can't understand why anyone would think this would get pushed back, it has never happened with any game.
Ever.

Oh you are welcome!!

I don't believe it will be pushed back, don't worry.

Correct. But in Oblivion, my orc warrior with practically NO magical ability became the arch-mage of the mages guild, with no stealth ability he became head of the thieves guild. There is no argument that Oblivon required in-game player skill.

I can counter that with a bit of imagination and unique game design. Genres only hit walls because publishers like to stick with familiar ideas that make them the most dosh. It's very risky to try and market new ideas to consumers.

It is risky but I will say, in an FPS just about the only things that can change are the time frame the game is in, the weapons, game modes, and vehicles making it in. For the most part first person shooter aren't open to very much change. RPGs like TES can have a lot more put into them because it's based on fantasy. I don't think they have necessarily put as many new things into the game as they could have. I'd prefer a ton of new weapons, armor, quests and such to dragons honestly

Makes sense. I always used to wait until Saturday anyway because if I went in Friday some retailers might wait until late afternoon to display the games anyway (super markets). Dedicated game stores are always reliable for Friday though
but are a bit more expensive. I mostly order online now as I usually get my games one day early.

I agree, shooters are restricted to... shooting. They have to be more realistic, but CoD needs something fresh for sure. Something like more a team-based single player, dynamically interactive/destructive environments, multiple paths through the environment (freedom) ect.
What I hate about these games also is that you lose your bond with the character because they switch them around and make you play as some random guy from Russia or something. They should really focus on making the story emotional and gripping. Yes I would prefare more quests to dragons. I love quests.

Bethesda's not afraid of Modern Dwarfare 3. Two completely different audiences.

I like the generalizations. I play both franchises, and consider myself a pretty rabid fan of TES.

MW3 is more likely to win GOTY honestly

I lol'd. CoD has become a yearly rehash cash-in. It won't get FPS-GOTY or Mulitplayer-GOTY, much less full GOTY.

You really think so? Cuz my guess is M W3 is gunna be pretty damn similar to the past games.. With some added content and some tightened controls. skyrim is a whole new game in itself. Cod is more likely to get stale because its been the same formula with very little change imo. great games... But Tes will have it beat in my mind

Taking into account BF3 will probably beat it. I retract my previous statement on the grounds the BF3 will beat it if it comes out in time

Considering Activision fired the talent behind Modern Warfare, I'd be surprised if it was even half as good as the terrible Black Ops.

Tbh if it's someone who should be pushing back it's MW3. I'm not hating on it or anything, but i was planning on buying it, but not if it's going to be on or around the date of Skyrim's release. I am getting Skyrim regardless of what game is released on 11/11/11, looks like MW3 is just going to have to wait because i'm not spending $120.00 on video games in one week.

Lol and i agree with this guy....

Skyrim is in no danger, here if you doubt me call game stop tomorrow they will tell you the same lol, it already has the highest number of pre-orders for any game being released even close to that time, unless something has changed radically in the last week :)

honestly it doesn't matter.
The engine, graphics, guns, textures, voice actors, etc. are all there and done, all they need to do is turn it into a game.
My 3 year old cousin could build a call of duty game, and it would sell more than any game out there.
It truly is an all time low for the industry.

Really, COD went so mad with popularity, it's sad.
MW1 was just really tons of fun but it just went wrong with the other games after.

Still, Skyrim will never be delayed.
11.11.11 and no more.

What will call of duty have? More guns? :spotted owl:

same gameplay, different campaign story, new maps with similar environments as its predecessors, a few new guns, and a few new gun skins. i still dont understand why these cod fans get so hyped up about this every year since cod4, does anyone know why?

Yes, there are many loyal fans and customers to Skyrim but MW3 will be released three days before. The massive influx of people who will buy MW3 would probably weaken the sales of Skyrim since everyone would be playing it. Think about it, I don't know many people who are willing to spend 120$ for both games and that's not to say that obviously there are more MW3 fans due to the massive hype. How do you think it will fare?

What the hell is MW3, and why would Skyrim be pushed back because of it? :meh:

Call of duty: Modern Warfare 3

Reason why is because Black ops made record sales, and people are actually thinking that Skyrim won't get as many copies sold because everyone will be buying MW3 that day. But not me, i'm buying Skyrim regardless of what game comes out on or around that date.

No worries, between the 8th and 11th its content will be exhausted, and those people will be ready to move on to Skyrim.

Yes, of course Bethesda should move the release date to 12-12-12. I mean anyone who does not think so is wrong cuz COD IS THE BEST EVA. :banghead: .
