Should Skyrim use Morrowind's Theme song?

I think he's hit a very good balance between Oblivion's dramatic feel and Morrowind's magic this time.

Let's hope this reflects the actual game. :)

I like the Trailers music song at the end I think that would work perfectly for Skyrim.

The music in the trailer was a combination of Morrowind and Oblivion's theme with the voices of the choir added in. If you listen in the beginning and at the end, the trailer is obviously using Morrowind's theme. But in the middle it sounds much like Oblivion's theme.

I think it would be interesting if once you reach the zenith of the MQ, it recapitulates Morrowind's theme, or a slight variation (perhaps a different tonality).

I'd dare say it was better than both TES III's and TES IV's theme song. It was like TES's equivalent of Duel of the Fates.

If you didn't notice the Skyrim song in the trailer starts out with the same drumbeat as Morrowind...not sure if Oblivion had that too.

No, definitely not. Don't get me wrong, Morrowinds theme is amazing, but it just doesn't suit Skyrim. I think the theme in the Teaser suits Skyrim really well, it's epic. I hate using that word, but it just... fits.

The Morrowind theme has had its day. Let it stand on its own; it doesn't need to be redone, or reused. As for the Oblivion theme? It was okay.

But the Skyrim trailer theme has conviced me that it's actually an AMAZING theme, it just needed a bit of tweaking and a full-on choir to bring out the magic. I'm guessing they've based it off the Oblivion theme due to Skyrim having more of a connection to Oblivion than any of the other games. Or because they're lazy...

I'm really starting to wonder about some of the folks here... If you want Morrowind play Morrowind. If you want V.A.T.S. play Fallout3 or NV, If you want... you get the point. Each Elder Scrolls title stands on it's own, minus lore, and a few other things that uniquely tie the series together. Stop trying to make it something it's not, and focus on the fact that it's what everyone wants, which is: More Elder Scrolls for everybody!

The Skyrim theme song is the best Ive ever heard. I remember pretending to be the conductor when I heard the Oblivion theme song on the Elder Scroll website before the game was released. TES IV theme song gave me such an awesome epic theme.

this

I love Skyrim's theme more than any other Elder Scrolls theme (all six of them), but that's not the reason I'm requesting that Skyrim uses its own theme. I'm requesting that Skyrim uses its own theme because it's a different game. Just so I can feel as if I tried to help hold back some inevitable complaints about the game, this isn't Morrowind and it isn't Oblivion. It's Skyrim, and don't expect anything different.

No, I'd like something different. Morrowind's theme is good, but it's mostly nostalgia for me. For Skyrim, I'd like something more war music like. Added drum beats to get the heart pumping. Like Oblivion did, but Morrowind just seemed depressing to me. The music was good, but it needed a better balance between drums and wind/violin instruments. This might only be my opinion though, guess we'll see :)

Has it been confirmed that Jeremy Soule is in fact doing the music for Skyrim? That theme does feel Jeremy Soule-esque, but I don't think he uses epic choir in any of his music. Could be someone like Inon Zur...lol. I sure do hope it's Jeremy Soule and whoever said that Jeremy Soule doesn't have any creativity..shame on you.

Skyrim should not use Morrowind's theme. Skyrim should use Skyrim's theme.

That said, while obviously I would not expect a return to the MIDI greatness that was the music of Daggerfall, I would love to hear, in some of Skyrim's music, vague callbacks to some of the music from Daggerfall. Obviously, we'll definitely be getting reuse of some of the themes from Morrowind and Oblivion... but I think it would be a nice touch to reuse some ideas from the music of even earlier titles.

Definitely. Also I have to agree with you - although until I can hear the full thing I'm placing it equal with Morrowind's, it really has a good balance of the atmosphere of both MW and OB's. Love the instrumental flourishes too. The only thing that can compare, in my eyes, is the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nhk8T1ejU9g. :D

Like it or not, the Morrowind theme IS the Elder Scrolls theme now, and has been since OB.

The theme in the trailer is very likely the title theme you'll hear when you first boot up SR. It's very professional and obviously produced with more than just that trailer in mind. AND IT'S GOOD. No need to whine about it.

I think it should be done by the same composer (Jeremy Soule if I recall correctly) and like Oblivion use the same "central melody" that was introduced in Morrowind's title theme. To me that's pretty much become the "Elder Scrolls theme" and I'd be disappointed if that were discard for Skyrim in favor of something completely different. I only watched the trailer once and I don't think I was paying much attention to the music, so I'm not sure if elements of that melody were in it or not.

Edit: Watched the trailer again-could definitely here that "Elder Scrolls Melody" in there. There were a few bits that felt reminiscent of Morrowind's theme, mainly the drums. I have no idea why anyone wouldn't want to have that melody included at all-it's as distinctive, catchy and recognizable as the themes from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Harry Potter-the only difference is that it didn't appear until the third game, and well I was about to say it was a matter of technical limitations but there have been games like Super Mario Bros. long before The Elder Scrolls games even started. I guess it was sort of a matter of the fact that Morrowind was the series' first mainstream success and the first game to also appear on a console. Whatever the reason, I'm glad that melody has become a staple of the series, it's very nice and has lot of room for adding variations like any good theme melody should.

I really liked the take on it that's included in the Skyrim trailer, and of course we only here it in the last few moments.

why use the same song? The composer is paid to come with new and original songs.

Its rather obvious they wont go with Morrowinds theme, rather with a new one.
The one from the trailer reflects how I see the Nordic nature, which I find important, with great touches from both morrowind and oblivion.
Whatever the full song is, there is about a 100% chance it is going to be beyond epic, as with the last games.
Hopefully they also add epic new adventuring music, and a lot of it. Im getting rather sick of hearing the same song all the time, and I've added about twenty other songs to my music folder.

The trailer's music was incredible. And not just the trailer, the music they played right before Todd's speech with the monks was amazing too.
