Should some mods be canonized

Post » Fri Feb 07, 2014 7:43 am

I think we can all agree that with the addition of the Creation Kit, Bethesda supports the moddin community. And there have been some truly incredible mods, some even having very lore-friendly stories. So, should some if any mods be made canon for the next game. Mods like Wyrmstooth or Luftahraan, truly exceptional DLC-sized mods. Or epic quest mods like Moonpath or Undeath. Perhaps a contest to decide which mods are good enough by Bethesda's standards that they should be made canon. Perhaps some money prize or a positon on the team for the next game for the winners. So, if this was done, what mods should be candidates for canonization?

No.

Never, while some may be lore friendly and utterly great. I would rather it be left to the original creators and such. Get on the offfical writing team and work it from there.

I think some mods should get Bethesda's seal of approval. These mods and the things they add would be incorperated into the official canon. For instance, the bent pine trees make Whiterun's tundra look better. Maybe a contest where people would vote for let's say 10 mods out of the best mods to be made canon. The maker of these mods could be offered a spot on the team or some kind of prize. Modders should be the first people the team should consult on how they could fix the game. Remember the blockly noses? Fixing that was a must. Let's say Luftahraan, which hasn't been released yet, could be made canon. Maybe incorperated as one of the sovereign kingdoms of High Rock, since it is located in between Skyrim and High Rock. Just appearing on the provincial map or something, perhaps hinting at mods from past games. They did this with the Airship on Solstheim, since it was supposed to be a tribute to the Airship mods of the past.

A modding moot, if you excuse me. Most likely the next game in the series will be set in another province, another time, and reference Skyrim details very little. See how little of Oblivion is referenced in Skyrim, of Morrowind in Oblivion, of Daggerfall and Arena in Morrowind... And if Bethesda will feel like to reference something from a released mod, wouldn't license terms of CK make it a trivial issue?
