Should I start saving for an upgrade or just buy for PS3?

Post » Tue Apr 06, 2010 9:25 am

PC you need to spend at least £$1000-$£4000 for an awesome computer custom

You won't need an awesome computer for Skyrim, just a reasonably good one. And you certainly don't need to spend $4000 for a top of the line rig, computer components just aren't that expensive. $1000 - 2000 is more than enough, depending on how much you need to upgrade.

Yeah but $1000 is alot more than $300 for a 360. I think you should get it for your PS3 or buy a 360.

you can buy an excellent, cheap DX11 video card for less than $150 - that might be all you need to upgrade your desktop

1GB AMD 5770 costs $110 - 130
1GB NVIDIA GTX 460 costs $130 - 150 or so

What are your specs?

If you can afford to save money, and want to build a new rig, then go for it! Maybe you'll only need a few more gb's of ram(the most you'll need is 4 to be safe) or a new gpu. Saving moneys always good regardless, so when the specs are released and your fine you'll still have some extra cash to play with, or top off your pc so you can have the best experience with skyrim.

Give me 500, and I'll build you a rig 5 times better than any console. And capable of running mods.

Save for a PC! Mods are worth the game a 100 times over again, and you can calculate yourself how much money that would be!^^

PC ftw! :D

1000$ is for new PC from scratch (please read more carefully)
upgrade will cost ~150$, and that is alot less than 300$ for X360
so like I stated previously upgrade, definitely upgrade
as for mods- there might be possible mods on consoles, but I doubt that there will be more mods on consoles than on PC (and any mod that will be on consoles will have PC counterpart)
There could be possibility that mods could be used on all platforms, but after example with OBSE, that was a MUST for most Oblivion mods, I doubt that most mods for PC will be usable on consoles

Someone showed me those DLCs the other day but I think I would rather have the DLCs that the game makers make instead of ones that normal people make lol. Besides then you have to have someone put the parts in to your computer and stuff and then it can break so then that's more money.

Todd Howard have already said that mods for consoles is a no-go for Skyrim, so why are people still talking about that? (It MIGHT work out for the next game though)
So, upgrade your PC, and get more for your money! :)

You won't even have to buy new games again then, as you can just download a mod like Nehrim for Oblivion, and you've got a new game for free! :D

Actually, A LOT of the mods that regular people make is MUCH better than what comes with the game already. Qarls texture packs anyone?

And they're not 'DLCs'. They are mods. And they are free. Which is pretty much the main difference.

And you can put all the parts together yourself. It's actually quite easy. You just, essentially, have to match up colors and plug in shapes.

Seriously, you got to stop talking about Computers, or learn something about it! :P

You can buy a computer part, have it delivered by mail, and put it into your computer yourself. If you know anything about computers and consoles at all, you'll know that there's a bigger chance of a console breaking than a PC if you only use them for gaming.

MODS are 10 times better than Official DLCs. MODS you will get for free, and in many cases, they have more content than a DLC.

Xboxers:
At http://tesnexus.com/index.php, you'll find 25.168 mods for Oblivion and Morrowind! And they are all free!

At http://www.fallout3nexus.com/, you'll find 11.210 mods for Fallout 3! They are all free!

At http://www.newvegasnexus.com/, you'll find 5.499 mods for Fallout: New Vegas! They are all free!

At http://www.dragonagenexus.com/, you'll find 2.189 mods for Dragon Age! They are all free!

They are made by regular people. Some increase the graphics, some add new items like armor and weapons, others change game-play, the UI, etc.

lol Zaldir I started looking at the pictures there and had to close it I'd get in trouble if I used those I probly can't even get Skyrim if it's M lol. Besides what if those DLCs have viruses or something and I don't think I'd be allowed to open my computer and mess with it lol.

How old are you? Aprox. age?
I compiled my own PCs since I was 13 so I don't get your point especially since we have youtube, google and various forums to help
Back then I had nothing.

And consoles of course are unbreakable, right?

They don't have viruses!
They are checked every minute for viruses, so no, they don't.

And if you can't get Skyrim if it's M, I guess you can't play Oblivion either^^

And you looked at a few of the 25.168 mods that are there, and have already made up your mind that you can't use any of them? :P

First of all they're called mods, not DLCs. And if you had actually played with some of them you wouldn't have made that comment. There are many mods available that are just as good quality as anything that Bethesda can make.

Besides then you have to have someone put the parts in to your computer and stuff and then it can break so then that's more money.

Computer components are no more likely to break than the ones in consoles. As for installing them, it's really not all that difficult. Anyone can build their own computer, as long as they read the instruction manuals carefully and take their time. I've rebuilt my own system several times now. And even if you bring it to a store and have someone do it for you, it doesn't necessarily cost you alot extra. I did that the last time I upgraded since I just didn't want to bother with it at the time, and it only cost me an extra $50 for a complete rebuild.

And Blackrave I'm 13 but I have to share my computer with my brother to so if I broke it or something I'd probly get in alot of trouble.

Sometimes I wonder why I go the the Skyrim section.....

On topic, yeah OP depending on your specs I would definitely get it for the PC. Most likely just pop in a new GPU for $150 or so and you should be good to go. (Though you should post a dxdiag). Console versions are good. But any TES game should be experienced on the PC.

Thumbtack Jake I think you showed them to me yesterday or something can you show me them again? Do you use MS points does comp have XBL?

If your paying for mods.....then you are getting ripped off.

Someone showed me those DLCs the other day but I think I would rather have the DLCs that the game makers make instead of ones that normal people make lol. Besides then you have to have someone put the parts in to your computer and stuff and then it can break so then that's more money.

A lot of mods are at the level of detail or greater then the official DLC.
Computers are, on average, more reliable then a console......though that depends on the user....The fact is, consoles are just computers as well, specialized computers that only serve a specific purpose. They have just a high chance of being damaged as a computer does. And even more so because they are smaller and prone to overheating.
