Should Survival mode have slower levelling?

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2016 10:14 am

If I could have one wish for Survival mode it would be that you level slower. Either you get less XP for everything or you stop getting it for things like building, cooking and when something gets killed by someone else and you just happen to be nearby.

What do you lot think?

In New Vegas I use a mod that reduced the XP Amount you got. I feel it needs one.

Fallout 4? I don't think it needs one. Couldn't say why though.

I don't know... 'Here, this is the hardest thing we have to offer, and it gives the smallest amount of XP'. Doesn't really make sense.

What they NEED to do is figure out the right scaling so you have a challenge on all levels.

You don′t get XP for kills nearby anyway? Only when you did a certain amount of damage to it...

Not true. I was walking by as the BoS obliterated a Super Mutant camp and XP kept popping up as they fell. I never fired a shot.

I sometimes think they shipped a few versions of the game.

I get XP, you don't.

I have not seen A SINGLE Gauss rifle at lvl 65, others have found lots of them at 25.

When I fast travel or enter a building while in stealth, I arrive out of Stealth, while others report they stay in Stealth.

It makes no sense at all.

Complete opposite - you should get more.

F3 rewarded you for harder difficulty with more XP and this should be the same.

As far as I can tell this is caused by a respawn bug. After the first time you kill an enemy.. every time the respawned version of that enemy gets killed when you are in the area you might get xp from it. I was doing a full exploration run of the game so it took me a long time to notice.. but now, simply running through any area with heavy fighting between enemy factions, I'll start getting xp from kills I'm not involved in. I have no idea if it's caused by reaching a certain amount of enemies killed.. (I've killed over 2000 human enemies alone.) or if it occurs with every enemy respawn.. I'm thinking it has to do with the amount. I mean, I ran back and forth from places quite a lot in the beginning of the game. Plenty of fighting going on between factions and I did not get bonus xp from enemy kills. It was only after I had reached downtown and had explored half the map that it started happening to me.

In all reality though, you don't actually gain much xp from kills. It's definitely not as big of an xp boost as simply building and crafting. To make survival mode truly survival they should remove crafting and building as a way of earning xp. Grinding by killing is a lot harder than grinding from building.

After having already played a big 'explore everything' playthrough, I feel like my future playthroughs will be way shorter and way more character based.

This will already make the character a lower level in the end.

I don't think I would like a slower leveling approach, as it would result in more grinding.

I don't know. Leveling and getting those Perks just might be pretty important in that mode.

Well, that would certainly make sense. I am sure I've cleared out that Super Mutant camp I mentioned on my own earlier, so that would support your idea.

Conspiracy :-P Well the digital versions should be the same, so perhaps difficulty could issue this change... However as others has suggested, could be due to respawns, since come to think of it... I might have gotten XP from previous kills that I might not have touched on respawn... This is only a guess however, since I′m not certain whether I haven′t touched them or got XP for not, but I′m certain that there are times I don′t get XP even after delivering the finishing blow, simply due to not damaging them enough... To this I′m quite certain
