Should I...

Post » Tue Aug 24, 2010 1:37 pm

Hello, everyone!

Title probably says it all, but: Should I buy New Vegas now, or wait till the bugs are fixed? I'm gonna play the game sooner or later, but thought maybe saving it for later will make it more enjoyable.

Points to take into consideration:

- I've played through Fallout 3, but not the DLCs - I have Broken Steel and Point Lookout and will probably be playing them for a while.

- I've already bought Fallout 1 and 2 (and tactics, in a compilation), so I might wanna play through them before NV to get to know the West Coast better and thus enjoy NV more.

- I've heard NV is glitchy, so waiting for the bugs to be fixed might make the experience of playing the game better for me.

- I won't have much time for video games before Christmas

- (edit) the game will be cheaper later

Any advice? Is it worth buying and playing now, screw the other stuff? I'll let you try to convince me :)

I love New Vegas. But it seems you already have so much to play. I am not shure if I can go back to Fallout 3, just because of the little things NV has, like colour, crafting, hardcoe mode etc. So you might want to finish Fallout 3 and your other games. New Vegas isn't going anywhere, so you might as well wait.

On the other hand, this game is lots of fun as well. So bugs and glitches aside, it's your call. Me I don't know how you can wait, but if you can, then wait, hell maybe you will get it for Christmas it's only a 2 months away.

*edit* Don't worry about being cheaper later. Is it really worth waiting say 3 months to save $10?

I'd say play through your other games first. New Vegas will still be waiting for you when you finish. It might even have DLC, or have received a price drop by then.

No, you're right -- it's not going anywhere (except for DLCs and patches, which would mean it's going forwards)

And the price doesn't really matter to me -- I'd gladly pay 80 bucks for it, but seeing that I might not have time for playing it before Christmas, I might as well buy it then and potentially save some.

And of course I'll write it on my wishlist :P (just hope Santa hasn't been paying much attention this year)

so no one thinks it's so damn awesomely good that it would be the biggest mistake of my life to wait? ... okay, Good :)

I hope someone doesn't spoil it for me if I decide to wait, though. I'll just have to stay far away from this forum if that's what I decide.

Thanks for your opinions, guys. If anyone else has more to add, then fire away.

You'll enjoy FO:NV more if you finish FO1 and FO2 first. Tactics is probably optional.

Let me go ahead and back this up: Wait until the bugs are fixed. Phenomenal game in my opinion (with its faults), but too many people are having big problems with bugs to risk it. The bugs could take all the fun out of the game for you.

I wouldn't buy it if you haven't played the DLC's from FO3 yet. Those are fantastic. I also recommend you get The Pitt (I LOVE that).

When you've worn all that out, then get New Vegas. JMHO.

Thanks for great advice, people. Seems like the consensus is that I should wait, so I've decided to do just that :)

And if I can get hold of The Pitt, I'll of course buy that too -- just can't get enough of Fallout 3 !

(I'm installing Fallout and Fallout 2 on my HP mini now... hope my professors won't notice me playing in class :P)

Take it one further... wait until they release the version that contains FO:NV and all the DLC in one bundle for the same price as FO:NV is today.

That way the mod community will have finished the Unofficial Patch(es) and the game will finally be functional.

I might not be able to wait that long :P
But there's the chance that I might not be able to finish all those games before the bundle's released and I'm lucky enough to get it all in one package -- we (mostly I) will just have to see :)

I'd say wear out Fallout 3, then work on the first two, THEN see how New Vegas stands. There will probably be some patches and DLC for it out by then.
