Should The Elements Affect Us?

Post » Sun Sep 04, 2011 1:16 pm

From TIL:

The page implies this throughout each game description.

But really the previous games haven't had element affects only spell affects.

Sounds like some good features for a hardcoe mode if one is added to the game.

Does the snow accumulate to cover up caves too?

Caves can be flooded but I don't know about snowed in.

Yes, but I'd assume that they will have a resistance to the cold damage. In fact, I'd put ten dollars to the fact that "cold damage" is just specially scripted frost damage.

We've been told that hardcoe mode wont be in unfortunately but I want it in even if there no hardcoe, or possibly a mod.

Most probably but there is no way other than a spell to get damaged by frost.

Oh man, that would definately put a new twist on the game itself. Awesome idea if done correctly, which they likely wouldn't do at all if it couldn't. I certainly wouldn't.

What with weather affecting characters and such, dangers could be added in ways that none would expect. The freezing of a blade in it's scabbard or the difficulty of holding the weapon with a powerful swing should the hands be wet. All sorts of interresting things come to mind, I likes it.

But.. what if you lick a frozen flagpole? XD

I hear it is slightly already been confirmed and for Bethesda it shouldn't be too hard to pull off, and seeing how things like light and darkness affects a blades contrast it should be too hard to make frost particles on a blade.

Some Hand-On player stated that your character will, indeed, fell cold and shivering if he gets outside with thin clothes. :hubbahubba:

Having the elements affect the PC sounds real good and all, but man, it would get real old real fast. :ahhh:

If it was implemented properly, eh... I don't know.

after having played fallout with its radiation hazards and especially after playing STALKER with the anomalies and the blowouts, games without environmental hazards are really boring.

I hope the shivering animation doesn't apply to Nords (because of their innate resistance to cold) or Khajiits (because of fur)

I had a really hairy flatmate last year and he shivered all the time.

My cat used to shiver too :).

I agree. The blowouts in Call of Pripyat were pretty cool. I nearly got caught in one once and ended up jumping into a fissure in the ground to doge it... that was all good until I realized I'd jumped into an underground snork maze, I barely made it out alive but it was really fun and unexpected.

It would be awesome to actually have to prepare and plan to tackle some of the harsher environments in Skyrim.

They could use it for hard missions and stop us getting to restricted areas and past barriers.

well from what I remember of the lore the throat of the world is so high and massive that getting to the top is similar to going up the Himalaya's or something equivalent. the lore also states that there are these magical winds that will turn a man to ice in seconds. I mean they already did this in oblivion so I am not sure why they would not do it in skyrim at least in places.

Two confirmed things: Frost damage, and shivering if outside with not enough clothing on.

Really? Can you link that if at all possible?

And as for the OP/Poll, I agree completely, unless of course the wind is in your favor and actually increases speed a bit.
