Should the game have a different ending?

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:17 am

different character, different ending, what you choose has a total impact on the game, of course i m talking about the ending of the main mission the quests and the game in general - I vote for yes
For those who dont like it, i would love to see what they know about the new technology of the game, because for me this can only be good
let me clarify something, the poll is about yes or no, its not about if you care or not, and its not about the technology alright? lets put aside the technology and say they can do it, you like it or not? straight and simple
(Its really funny to see what is happening here, when i pay for something i expect it to have it all or as many things possible)

I grant you it would be interesting to see different endings, just to see how the game world might react differently once you continue after finishing the main quest.

No. It would be a waste of resources that could be used for other things. One ending is fine, espeically since you the hero should be treated like a hero not different for whatever race you might be.

Who said anything about race? the way i understood it, he meant different endings depending on the choises your character took.

If you have to ask that then you obviously have never created anything. There are so many things that time could be used for instead of wasting it making endings for each different race.

It really doesn't matter why the endings might be diffferent but mutliple endings are useless as most people won't go out of their way to change the way they play to see mulitple endings.

You better watch what you re saying because you dont know me, i m talking about the choice of being a mage, a fighter and a thief, you could be more specific if you like, of course the race could play a role, but i decided to make things more simple

It's still a waste of time that could be used for many other things that go with creating a massive world like TES. You asked me "What things?" and it's really not a question that needs to be asked if you ever took the time to create something and realize that you can take time from one thing and improved something else.

That isn't the point with multiple endings IMO. I have only seen 1 of the endings in Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3, yet i love the fact that i could have taken a different route. It's all about choise really. This is one of the most important aspect of a good roleplaying game and The Elder Scrolls is sorely lacking in that department.

That would add alot more depth to the game, as you can finish it, start a new character do it differently and do it like that. I like the idea, but putting that concept in motion is a whole different thing altogether. Although, that would keep me playing the game longer

You have to factor in the time it would take to do multiple endings. The time it would take wouldn't benefit the game as a whole. That is why I say leave them out.

I kinda don't care, I mean different endings would be cool, but it hasn't been used since Daggerfall in the elder scrolls, so I don't really think it suites it, also usually what the main character does will become part of lore

Major events that needed to happen DID happen by the end of those games. The big baddies fall but through different fashions so the main storyline can't be touched as it's written on the Elder Scrolls. Or perhaps you're referring to the aftereffects during the epilogue.

If you don't really have any use for it, ofcause it would be a waste of time and money from your perspective. I completely understand that.

But from my perspective, it would totally be worth it and add a lot to my overall experience.

Ugh. While multiple endings can be fun, you really don't know how much work that requires do you?

Let's make a list, for each additional ending, you have to do several things:
The Writing staff has to actually go about developing and writing the ending, the lead-up to the ending so it makes sense, etc.
New voice acting work for everything associated with that ending.
New ending cutscenes.
Plenty of additional scripting and potentially adding more quests.
The design of additional assets and special effects in order to complete the new ending.

All of this work is both time consuming and adds additonal costs to the project.
So multiple endings takes more development time and is more expensive to make. Also, take into consideration that gamesas will have to do a retcon so there is only one "real" ending scenario that effects the lore in future games and it can be quite easily argued that it's not worth it.
