Should the northern ocean be iced over?

Okay so Skyrim takes place in the far northern regions of the empire and has a northern ocean area. Should it be frozen over/filled with endless floating ice chunks?

On a certain map you can see the northern part of Skyrim isn't covered in snow. So this wouldn't make any sense.

Perhsps it should freeze in winter, and be liquid in spring and summer.

no to ice and no to penguins
I'd rather see an entirely original creature
also, I don't see the point of the ice

I think it'll be a bit like Solstheim, a bit of ice on the edges, but definitely not frozen over.

As for penguins, no. I want Horkers, not penguins.

The ocean doesn't just "freeze". Even the north pole has coasts.

Some edges of the coast should be frosted over, but I'd still like there to be some water. Also, I want to see debris from recently-nuked Vvardenfell washed up on the shore as a nice homage to the game. How about a Guar skeleton? :hehe:

If don't see the point of a frozen over sea because in a game it's basically the same as land but without any doodads. ( like trees and locations ). So it would be filler material. Also I think penguins just wouldn't fit in the elder scrolls' universe, so no to that aswell.

I don't see the point of the ice

For the Nord figure-skating championships, of course! Oh, and don't forget curling.

In all seriousness, I can see having some drifting ice-flows, but it shouldn't be completely iced over. I am ambivalent toward penguins. They may be cute, but they're devious. Never trust a penguin.

No. And No. First, I'm hoping we get boats, and it's mentioned in lore that the Nords are sailors. Also, the North pole IS frozen over, but Skyrim is not at the north pole, if it is similar to Norway or someplace it is right below the region of the arctic sea, the northern part of which is the ice sheet.

Also, I know Nirn =/= Earth, but penguins are found only on the southern hemisphere.

 The ocean doesn't freeze! Not even in the antarctic! You get Sea Ice on top, yeah. But it isn't a solid mass of frozen ice from surface to bottom.

Sea Ice could be fun, if only as a vehicle for extra stuff to put on "land" (land-like surface). Ice bears, dens, seals, penguins, horkers, some crazy necromancer, etc.

Skyrim just isn't on the north pole. So a frozen ocean would make no sense at all.

I really don't get why people expect Skyrim to be some frozen wasteland. Skyrim is just in the north of the continent of Tamriel, but there's a whole continent to the north of it: Atmora. Now if there are places that are a frozen wasteland, then it has to be on Atmora, not in Skyrim.

Skyrim has snow, but it's basically there because Skyrim is a relatively mountainous region.

Partially iced. So we can have options of what can exist in the two environments (open seas and ice).
No penguins. Public access to them would mean their demise anyway, and I love penguins.
Now one giant mutant man-eating penguin would be ok.

1. Salt water doesn't freeze easily.

2. Horkers, not penguins.

I don't care about the ice, but setting up a quest like Undaunted Courage would be interesting!

Also, I don't care about penguins, as long they aren't named Rico, Private, Skipper, nor Kowalski. I'd hate to mess with them! :toughninja:

If any part of the ocean in Skyrim would freeze, it would probably be pretty far into the fjords... if Skyrim has fjords. I'm pretty sure the water on the coast would not freeze, Skyrim is not very far north.
