Should the player get a chance to make BOS less xenophobic?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 6:59 am

At the suggestion from Taramafor in change my poll question "http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1564190-should-the-player-have-a-chance-to-make-bos-poll/" because the question he gave more align what I tried and failed to get out of my mind and onto the computer.

.

Also, This is going to be my last poll and topic about BOS for a while.

Rules:

No arguing about whether synth, mutants, and ghouls should be shoot on sight.

No arguing about if the BOS is a encalve clone or not.

No arguing about if the BOS is going to stand and rule the commonwealth of not.

No arguing about if the synth are alive or not

The question is "Should have the player get a chance to make BOS less xenophodia?"

it would take more than one person ie you to do that though. Their xenophobia is institutionalised. BOS kids are brought up to believe it. Listen to any BOS npc in anywhere in the game, they're all like "if I had my way we'd kill every mutant, ghoul and synth we find". That's what the rank-and-file believe, the fact that they have an Elder that believes it too is all the better (for them).

You simply calling a meeting and saying "right, from now on we be nice to everyone" wouldn't cut it, infact there would probably be an armed coup against you.

So yes, I'm all for "Lyon's Pride" type BOS, but I'm afraid they would only exist as a splinter group, like the Outcasts.

No? I mean if you run with The Brotherhood of Steel you are a soldier, and you follow orders. Ofc you can rise fast through the ranks and climb up to Sentinel (which is what Sarah Lyons was). I could see you maybe have some influence at that point, but not as a Knight or Paladin. The Elder decides the direction, and so it should be. There is a reason the Lyons way of doing things did not last. We learn about this throughout all of Fallout 3 (which i recently replayed).

Yes and less Synthphobic too. There are 2 Quests in the game already which could have made sense to Change the Brootherhoods MInd.

And given their nature, I'm reluctant to even join up. Just following orders isn't an excuse. So, yes, I will join them, because of their missions and loot, but I'm roleplaying myself as an infiltrator. Before I even did the fire support quest, I already downed three virtybirds. For some reason Cait was intent on going on a private war path. I'm not entirely sure who fired the first shot, but suddenly they were hostile and mini gunned us from above.

This isn't like Hollywood where a stern, passionate lecture or a fun romp through the Commonwealth turns a bigot into the most tolerant person ever. Especially when it's just one Sentinel against the entire Brotherhood of Steel from the kids, to the scientists and doctors, all the way up to the top brass including Elder Maxon. At best they'll just find you annoying, at worst they'll kick you out. In any event, Elder Maxon has the final say-so, and if he thinks all mutants and Synths must die, then that's the direction they're going.
