should the rapids wash you away?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:04 pm

I hope so..

we should have to look for a bridge or step over the rocks, otherwise we get washed downstream :)

was this worth making a topic about? your damn right it was.

I hope so. Would be nice just to let yourself be taken down river in one of the calmer ones.

If they do, people will stop complaining on how they look because at least the river is realistic in terms of physics against you.

I think the rapids look great btw. But anyways yeah, I like this idea.

i actually thought of that yesterday when people were complaining about the graphics....i think it should but if your strength/agility or whatever are high enough you should be able to slowly fight your way upstream

Yes and if you have good athletics you should be able to fight the current and swim upstream.

Yes. I'm a huge fan of environmental hazards in general, but rushing water pushing you into rocks would be awesome.

I don't know about washing us away, but I would like to at least feel some pull from it. I think the cold from the water would be a greater danger though.

i agree. It would make for a very good gaming experience, and be a nice way to raise your athletics.

Assuming athletics is a skill, which it probably isn't anymore.

Sounds like a great idea, even if it would only affect you to some limited degree.

yeah also would add some tension... say you were being chased by bandits but you came to a gushing river...

do you fight the bandits? jump in the water and hope for the best? or try and leap across the stream? (discard some heavy equipment so you can jump further? awesome)

I vaguely remember hearing from somewhere that there would be water physics.

But first they should at least make the rapids look better...

absolutely, flowing water should affect you. as for the rapids in the trailer those should wash you away no matter how high your athletics is. for normal streams and rivers though you could SLOWLY move upstream provided you tough enough.

It was implemented in Gothic 10 years ago (even so much as over the falls you go suffering damage). Water physics should include this without any excuses.

it would be even better if heavy armor made you unable to swim without water walking or ease burden/feather, then youll have some really tough choices

I was also thinking about this as well, also a fourth option could be to use your dragonshout to push the bandits into the river and have fun watching them do downstream. :D

It's probably just an animated static, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

I think that rapids should take you away if you aren't strong enough, but you can push through if you have the strength.

I hope so. Not only does it make sense, but if you maneuvered right during a battle, maybe you could bash an opponent into the water and let it take them away, especially if you're outnumbered (they could swim back to shore and return to battle however).

If they did though, I'm curious about two things.
If you tried to swim across the channel, would your movement be slowed as you swam across?
and
If you used Water Walk, would it be like the sidewalk version of an escalator?
(If movement was effected, you'd probably not experience it so much with the spell, although footing might be tricky).

Had thought that if you drop an apple or similar in the water it would flow downward, joked that you could fill a small corpse like a wolf with armors and weapons and have it float down to a city.
But had not thought that it would affect myself to.

Most likely the rapids will wash you away or at least give you a struggle to go through them why wouldn't they have that in there.

No they won't, they'll complain even louder because them not looking perfectly photo-realistic makes the accurate physics all the more jarring and "ruins the immershun." :P
