Do you think the elder scrolls should be made as a movie and if so what do you think the plot should be about?

i could see them pulling off oblivion as a good movie. well if they had the right director say maybe peter jackson ( he is the guy who did the lord of the rings right ????). well yeah any ways that guy i think could make a good oblivion movie. even more so for when it comes to the part of the battle for bruma. they should make that part an epic ass battle like in lord of the rings. to me it would have to be at least some where around 3 hours long to thats the only way that they could pull it off and have a chance of actually being good well IMO.

Movies turned into games - great, when they're not rushed by some [censored] developer.

Games turned into movies - no thanks. The only movie based on a game I can think of that I actually enjoyed was Mortal Kombat, and that was mostly because I loved the soundtrack as a kid.

And as far as the Elder Scrolls franchise is concerned, the fantasy has always been very generic, and the series has never really been about telling great stories. The strength of the series really lies in the player's freedom to create the character they want and to explore an open world - experiences that just wouldn't translate at all to a film screen. I just don't see any reason for someone to make a movie out of it, beyond brand recognition... which would just be a horrible way of selling out.

they just need to look at every video game that was turned into a movie and look at the directors for all those moves and decide that they should never hire them to make a video game movie ever again.

My answer is plain and simple....

NO, HELL NO.

Mostly because Hollywood will insist it be live action and all live action movie depictions of games are just plain out BAD.

TES is not about the story or the characters, its about the setting and the rich lore. Those can't be conveyed in a movie.

An animated series would be pretty awesome though

only if it was about a past event, like the battle of red mountain... or perhaps based on one of the books. like King Edward from daggerfall

I think this is a great case of, if it's done right it will be very good, however there is very little chance it will be done right, in which case I really don't want to see anyone near it.

They also developed a Fallout movie that never went through.
Given the nature of the film industry, it's likely nothing will come of it.

WAT

You realize you're in the "Elder Scrolls Series Discussion" forum, and not the "Oblivion General Discussion" forum, right? Right? RIGHT?!

Your points about open world exploration are certainly true, but Bethesda has also told some wonderful, wonderful stories over the past 15 years or so. I am also curious how you would consider Morrowind to be generic fantasy. I'll start you off with this link: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Nerevar

There are dozens of others. Hope you can get around to playing it sometime my friend. Cheers!

On a list of things that end well, movies based on video games are never on it.

well i am playing throught the main quest of oblivion right now and i'm thinking of it as being a movie the whole time and so far it would turn out pretty good as a movie. that is if they did make it into one. and the main quest story it self for oblivion really isn't that bad. i mean say if they made oblivion a regulaer game and not open world with cut sceans and all that it would probably be way better.

not saying they should do that but yeah. if they made it into a moave and got the right director and a good enought budget it could turn out amazing.
