I have explained numerous times that riding dragons/lions/guar/etc... has never been part of the TES lore. I used the WoW mount system as a comparison to wanting odd, off-lore mounts (that are usually created in mods for the PC, such as the Akatosh Mount).
It has nothing to do with fear or anything of the sort. It's mostly something that I think would be silly or would cheapen the experience of the game, personally. That's where, like I said, mods come in. I don't have to add a mod to my system if I don't like it or want it. What a previous poster said was that some people play on consoles, so mods aren't an option. Well, I'm sincerely sorry that those people miss out on mods, but that doesn't mean Bethesda should retcon their lore so little Jimmy Nordface can ride a Hobbydragon.
edit for grammatical mistake
It trivialises the 'epicness' of the creature. Even if a intelligent, sentient and wise dragon is going to help you, he isn't going to help you
And unless there is lore to support it it is sacrificing the vividness of the world for Gameplay mechanics which is the opposite of most of Bethesdas games.
Aah, I understand, and we're probably on the same page in that case.
When I think of large/monstrous mounts for characters, I picture a tamed or charmed beast of some sort, and explained in one of two ways - a rare and dangerous mount suited only to an outlandish hero or mage (ie not a common activity in the world, but a logical use of an in-lore creature by a sufficiently daring and unusual character); or a natural, cultural variation on horses appropriate to the theme of a province/game (mammoths being the most obvious and relevant example).
If others think first of dragon mounts (which isn't what I was supporting, incidentally), or MMORPGs, then your comparison to WoW was probably a perfectly useful one. It's just I've been reading about heroes (and villains) riding pegasi and giant wolves and monstrous spiders since long before Blizzard Entertainment Inc existed, so the "no monster mounts: it's like WoW" bit kind of lost me.
