Should there be guns of any kind?

Post » Thu May 27, 2010 6:54 am

Honestly would anyone even bother to invent a gun if they could throw fireballs at people? I've never really liked the tech/magic mix games myself.

Uh I'd have to say no as this is a fantasy game and their aren't modern guns in a fantasy setting type game.

For the last time, NO!

Primitive guns and munitions completely changed the world. I don't want Tamriel to change too much until we have had the chance to see all of it outside of Arena.

Guns r Epic Failzzz..

Guns ruined Fable, among other things that have always been horrible with that franchise. Lets not have guns ruin what TES is. Keep that kind of technology for Fallout.

Hey guys i was wondering could TES benfit at all from some low tech arms like maybe a single shot blackpowder pistol. the idea intruiges me so that you could have a powerful weapon like this. maybe a rifle with a bit more range and pistols for one handed fights. try a bit of melee and range with a pistol in one hand and a sword in the other. please tell me what you think.

No.

Nope

No. Nope. Never.

nope, not at all

For the last time, NO!

Nope.

Absolutely not.

NO

Sigh... No.

They pretty much summed up about 90% of the community's feelings.

I like how this thread tried to be modest and use the foot-in-the-door technique by asking if there "should" be any guns in TES, instead of immediately going to the MAGIC ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH AND IT'S 200 YEARS LATER NEED GUNZ NAO!!11oneone! card. For that OP, I give you a cookie. :cookie:

But I still don't want guns.

No

TES isn't Warhammer, WoW or Fable and has never had firearms and its very refreshing that they aren't there. So a resounding NO from me with regards to any firearms in a TES game. I am sure that someone in the modding community will put up a musket, blunderbuss or pistol up eventually and if its your prerogative to download and use that user content go right ahead. Seeing it in the games vanilla version would put me off. I mean hell if I could find Boba Fett armour, a Predator Mod and a AK-47 on TES Nexus? People will make this stuff for Skyrim too and if its your thing have at it.

Also, speaking as someone who uses and owns a blackpowder firearm (Musket), I can personally vouch that these items would be worse than useless in a TES game. You'd have to get so close to hit them you might as well have a polearm or sword. Flintlock pistols have next to no range what so ever and muskets crap out at 25ft or so, unless you have a musket with ball molded perfectly for the bore (which never happened in old FL's) and its all perfectly wadded in which case you can get 50-75ft. If we are going to talk rifled muskets like a Kentucky Long Rifle, then we are going outside the rudimentary blackpowder weapons and moving into advanced territory, so if its not much of a stretch to have a FL smooth bore? Why not a rifled musket? While we are moving things along why not have a breech loading rifled musket? Then again, a magazine loaded rifle wouldn't be much of a stretch from the breech loader? Aw hell why not make an automatic ? See where it go's? We had guns in Fallout 3 and they were useful in that setting, they would be annoying and obtrusive in a TES setting.

I wouldn't mind. It could potentially add a layer of tactics to the combat if handled correctly.

YES! Yes, you will be able to fire off your AK-47 wildly into the air while wearing your night vision goggles and riding your dragon, who of course has huge, heaving briasts that will sway and jiggle realistically thanks to the inclusion of Boobie Physics? before you retire to your Minecraft-esque customized home to sit on the throne you built from the body parts of children that you murdered, where the romance option you chose will serve you drugs that apply so many shaders to the screen that your eyeballs will burst into flames.

For a second there, I though Kirov was back again. No, no, no, a thousand times no guns in a swords and sorcery game. If you want guns, play Fallout.
