Should there be a lobby for multiplayer?

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 7:08 pm

So iv noticed alot of threads starting up about the fact that it is difficult to play with friends due to the lack of a multiplayer lobby.

Do you guys think the devs should patch one in?

i dunno maybe but Xbox has a party system and there is a friend or xbox live party invite feature..Lobbies are purely for people to talk crap between matches which kinda irritates me to begin with..get tired of the 12-14yr olds acting like morons between matches in Cod..this is kind of a welcome change

It will help groups of friends larger than two actually play together. Lobbies are needed

Havent got the game yet as im in the UK but im shocked there are no lobbies. I thought that was just a given these days, especially in such a team focussed game.

Well since I'll play on PC and on dedicated servers and perhaps end up with a clan server depending on how things go I am not entirely worried about a lobby system, as long as there is a decent server browser system.

Well this game was designed with the idea "Team Based:' in mind, and the best way to get people that play the game as it should be is playing with friends as Team mates. I actually can't believe this..

no kidding. i find this hard to believe too. whats with game developers as of late? first everyone and their mother is catering to casual kids who have no idea whats going on in the first place, and now they make a TEAM-BASED multiplayer game that you cant even play with your FRIENDS in without it being a HUGE HASSLE? wowowowowowowowow

It's not too big of a deal, but it would be nicer than having to join a match and then invite your friends, like I was having to do earlier.

Lobby is useless on PC since people can use the server browser which works perfectly (except the background lag), on console it could be of a use.

There needs to be a multiplayer patch that increases a lobby system and lag reductions. It's a game based around teamwork, where you can't join up as a team.

Makes no sense.

A quick party system would be ideal, but this should in no way interfere with the server browser. I'm used to thumbing around through a server list to get a group of friends to play together. Hell, I've been at server hunting for groups since the days of CS 1.1, and back then, it was alt+tab to AIM to shoot the server IP over to someone instead of having this fancy steam overlay.

God I feel old.

Naw it doesnt need one, it was so awesome when I talked my Dad and 6 of my friends into getting this game and then last night when we all tried to play online together, we had to keep jumping in and out of games trying to find one with 8 spots. SD talked about the team work needed and lone wolves will not really be rewarded so why the heck did they not put in lobbies?

Lobbies are essential in any current multiplayer game for simple ease of transitory between games, maybe more so for consoles then PC's, but having to rely on a cumbersome Xbox Live party system to move between game modes/matches is not user friendly. It is an inconvenience to the gamers to have to navigate through an extra layer of menu systems when it can easily be streamlined within the game.

Why companies still haven't learned to copy Bungie's lobby system used for the Halo series, and near perfected in Halo:Reach, is beyond me. This system is simple to navigate between game types, lets you know who is online/available/joinable, and readily allows you to either quickly move into the next match, or switch your settings.

Obvious question is obvious lol. That, was my biggest complaint yesterday, something like that should be a staple in ANY online game like this one. Not sure if one can even be patched in to be honest.

I agree however a lobby can be very useful to fill up games with real players before hand, instead of bots, allowing friends to join before game starts, etc... I dont remember what game it is, but it wouldnt be hard to not allow you to talk to the other team before the game starts, which avoids all trash talking and annoyance.

It seems that without a lobby its harder to get into a game that isnt full and invite your friends or beat the clock before others join.

Love this game so far - but a patch to resolve some graphic hiccups, online lag, and a lobby would add a LOT to it.

Lobbies themselves are not needed. Parties on the other hand are.

They also need to fix the glitch where you get your buddy to make a lobby that accepts your rank or higher, and then when i join, and im a higher rank, it says my rank is too high! even though he had selected "My Rank or Higher". And a party system would be quite nice too, it is very troubling to play with friends, especially if your a different rank (I had to make another character just to play with him). And some matches are ridiculously laggy. And sorry for starting each sentence with "And" lol

Other than that though, this game is fun and I can't wait for some multiplayer patches so I can enjoy the full experience this game has to offer me.

it needs the ability to allow a group of players to form up prior to going into a game together and on the same team. What you call that is a semantic argument.

The thing that blows my mind is how the devs were all omg fireteam so you can stay with your friends. The only hurdles being that you all need to get into the same game and I think be on the same team then you can stay together throughout. How in the world could they not think hey you know maybe that fireteam would like to form pre-game. I honestly believe that they devs were too smart by half on this one working so hard to be different that they removed the one thing every solid fps got right.

You both or all have to set you Rank to "My Rank or Higher." That will accept Lower and Higher of your rank.
