Should they bring back the tongues?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:28 am

I think that they should make available the original magic users of Skyrim. The most well known ones are the tongues. legend has it that they cast spells by voice...even a warcry could disintegrate enemy armor and weapons.

You can read more about it in "children of the sky" a book found in Oblivion.

What do you think?' I'm thinking they should only make it available to nords as it's passed down through only a certain few nordic bloodlines.

Meh, would rather not have them in the game if only nords can use them.

No. I really don't see any need of discrimination. Besides the player character will be a dragonborn indeed.

Eh, I think adding that at this point would take away steam from the dragonshouts, which are supposed to be very special. Maybe in ESVI when the focus is no longer on the Dragonborn.

ok lol well, they didn't have any in oblivion and i just thought, since it's being hosted in skyrim, it'd be perfect, really. I guess, technically, it could be for any race seeing as how their ancesters could have had nordic blood in them.

Aren't the dragonshouts the tongues. Greybeards have the strongest tongues according to lore, now we know the greybeards will teach us the shouts in skyrim. By that logic aren't the tongues and shouts the same.

No. A "Tongue" is a person who uses Thu'um. The Greybeards are a specific set of Thu'um users, and are incredibly scary powerful. So no, the dragon shouts aren't the tongues.

Oh so Tongues are the uses of the thu'um, my bad.

What's the point of the thread then? Aren't the dragon shouts thu'um. Greybeards will teach us how to use the dragonshouts, so we will be able to use the thu'um. Wouldn't that make us tongues.

I don't think the beast races can breed with Man or Mer.

@amgepo: I'm not holding my breath on the PC being the dragonborn. I've been wrong about similar things before, but Morrowind was the exception in the TES series with the PC being the prophesied hero. In the others, he was an aid to someone else achieving *their* prophesied destiny.

Current evidence points to unlikely, with no confirmed cases of beast/man, mer pairings producing offspring.

My hideous argonian/Altmer offspring says otherwise.

I think he means he wants to see lesser NPC's (not us or the greybeards) who can use Thu'um.

Morrowind : Island full of racist a-hole Dunmer, who keeps beast-races as slaves - presumably no interbreeding.
-> The Beast races have radically different physiques than the humanoids, walk all funny, hardly ever say a word.

Oblivion : Nice candyland accepting Cyrodiil-ians, everyone polite and friendly, Beastmen abound.
-> But here they have almost completely human physique, and are just as chatty as most people.

Clearly, the beastmen in Morrowind were pureblooded, whereas the ones in the heartlands were human/beastman-mongrels. :P
