Should they make a remastered version of Morrowind?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 6:55 pm

My first elder scrolls game was Oblivion, and now i have Skyrim. I love them with a passion. I've been searching around to see what Morrowind was like and it seems like it was amazing. the only thing keeping me from getting it is that the graphics don't really look all that great (correct me if i'm wrong but it looks nothing like Skyrim, which is beautiful.)

So now i ask, what do you think? Should Bethesda make a remastered Morrowind?

If they did, I think it would be amazing!

If they added actual voiced dialogue to it I might get it again as I can't stand reading on a computer/tv screen... I love reading but doing it on a backlit screen just hurts my eyes after a while...

I have no interest in a Morrowind remake/remaster. I'd rather leave it as is. Also, one of the best thing about MW is mods, which would be incompatible with a new version.

I just started playing MW and yes the graphics are dated but the game has been so engaging so far that i have not minded them at all.
You can always install some mods to improve graphics too if you want

If you want better graphics install the morrowind sound and graphics overhaul. That'll kick the graphics up to 11.

I guess i didnt make it clear that this would be for the xbox360. sorry. so the point made about mods is irrelevant.

No. Morrowind is in my opinion a truly timeless game whose graphics make absolutely no difference, like OoT and goldeneye. (though goldeneye has been remade... what, three times now?)

Technically once. GoldenEye: Rogue Agent had nothing to do with the original game or the film, and GoldenEye Reloaded was just an Xbox 360 and PS3 "port" of the remake for the Wii.

oh i completely understand you. my point here though, is that I've been hearing that Morrowind isn't backwards compatible with the xbox 360. yeah old news, sorry. i just think that it would be cool if they made a new and improved version of the game for the 360. Once gain, correct me if i have made a mistake.

No.They would have to dumb it down and remove stats so it does not hurt the skyrim community's brain.

Why not?

Because that's like saying "Let's remade Mona Lisa, with better colors and a touch of CG".
It wouldn't be Morrowind any more but some Skyrim bastard child.

When you put it that way, i understand.... kind of, as i have never played Morrowind before. But here's an example; the first Halo, Halo: Combat Evolved was the best game in that series by far. For the 10th anniversary they remade it, and in my opinion, it still has the same feel and brings me back to the good old days of playing Combat Evolved, just with better detail and on an Xbox 360. Now put that in TES series perspective and you may/or may not agree with what i'm saying. But thank you for the opinion! :)

Well no not necessarily, people would just have to deal with a game that is actually challenging.

No, for a few reasons:
1) Possible mge and mod incompatibilities (mge allows great customability)
2) I think some of the appeal is the nostalgia of the dated engine and physics, which is why I have never even thought about using Morroblivion.
3) Text dialogue! I prefer text to voices because a) it's faster, B) no annoying or repetitive voices, and c) you don't get weirded out when a mod has no voices
4) They probably would include animated grass. I HATE animated grass. To me, it just doesn't fit in with Morrowind's atmosphere. That's why I use my own (static) grass mod.

I'd be fine with a remake, if they left everything and I do mean everything in and improved combat massively. But that's just not going to happen because you can't sell it anymore. So they will add voice overs, remove things like levitation and add quest markers, which would ruin a lot of the fun in Morrowind.

Also I'd have to wait a few months before all my favorite mods would return before I could actually play it again...

I would absolutely adore a true morrowind remake, in the skyrim engine. Morrowind with skyrim combat (with the addition of a true dodge mechanic) + npc schedules/radiant ai would probably be my dream game

No. I never want to see Morrowind with quest markers and Oblivion/Skyrim style level scaling. Leave the classics alone.

Morrowind is actually backward compatible with the Xbox 360.

From what I've heard the loading times are still just as long as on the old Xbox though (fairly long), so you're probably better off playing it on PC. Pretty much any PC built in the last 5 years should be able to run Morrowind at a good framerate and with faster loading times.

But if you don't have a PC then the Xbox 360 is still an option.

I would rather a game made with the same vision, goals and production team as Morrowind, then we might get an alternate evolution of TES if they had stuck with the fanbase they had instead of catering to a larger audience. I liked Oblivion and Skyrim, but if they kept the same goals as Morrowind for them we'd have a very different game.

Well truthfully, I wouldn't want the game to be anything like Skyrim, it was too easy. All i really want is just Skyrim quality graphics. like others have said, it wouldn't be Morrowind
