Should they release a demo?

Post » Sat May 22, 2010 8:50 pm

I know they have never released a demo (that I am aware of) but maybe they could release one for the tutorial and then give the option to skip it in the main game.

The demo should be about 20 hours long! This way you can really test it out.....

But in the demo, there is a quest that makes you sit on a forum for 19.5 hours waiting to hear about the news...... :brokencomputer:

I would love to see a demo happen. But I really doubt they will do it.

I don't think it's needed. I certainly don't need the demo, I know i'm getting it no matter what. It would just be a waste of developement time imo.

I don't think it's necessary, Morrowind and Oblivion were awesome even without a demo, even more so, since the first time you play the game will actually be the first time you play the game.

No i dont think they should. As much as i would love an early taster, i am prepared to wait for the full game to be released and kind of dont want to spoil the overall enjoyment of everything being brand new.

The tutorials are rolled into the early story line, so i cant see that happening.

Bethesda is not one for Demos, and Open Ended Sand Box games do not make for good demos as you usually need to include the whole darn world. Also, there maybe reasons for not releasing the game engine before they are ready, which is what they would have to do for a Demo.

Besides, the opening Tutorials are so disected before we ever see the game that it is demo'd for us ad nauseum before we ever get to play the game. In fact, I truely enjoyed the Morrowind opening sequence as I knew nothing about it, same with Daggerfall. Since Oblivion, the tutorials were not as much fun for me as I already knew them before I played them.

So, no Demo for me.

A demo would make the waiting worse I fear. :(

They did release a demo for Daggerfall. It only consisted of one pretty big dungeon, no open-air terrain or cities. It was how I was introduced to TES, actually...I think that demo might be the most enjoyable TES-memory I have, I played it over and over until the game was released.

Here is something else to think about. Demo's are for convincing people to buy the game by giving them something to try out.

Is anyone here not going to buy the game anyway?

I wouldn't mind a demo consisting solely of Character Creation, no tutorial just fiddling with sliders and looking at the races and whatnot.

Could create a few characters, maybe even some function so that we could keep whatever characters we came up with for the game.

Not that that is going to happen.

Ah well, I don't really need a demo to get hyped up for the game. Neither do the 689 people on that other topic just now.

When you put it that way a demo is not needed at all. :foodndrink:

NOOOO!!!! It will be a fresh experience when I finally get my hands on the game. I would not download the demo if there were such a thing. Very unlikely though.

As mentioned above, if they hadn't released a demo for Daggerfall, chances are I would never have bought any TES games, because I wouldn't have been aware of them. The people on these forums aren't the ones who need a demo, the ones who still haven't tried any TES games are the ones who do.

CCNA, I love your signature. The problem is that Life has terrible graphics

As for a demo, most game developers don't like demos because if there is something wrong with the the game in the demo then it hurts sales before the game ever comes out the gate. I would love to play a demo and yet I don't. Very Paradoxical

If they did want to make a demo, it would probably be very easy to do. Just have it be the tutorial dungeon like in Oblivion. Assuming there is one, of course. The demo ends when you go out the last door into what should be sunlight. But if you want open world, you gotta pay :P

I was actually just formulating a Demo post myself!

I would love to have a demo. In the world of Demos the two best I have seen are the original Doom and the original Mount & Blade. Doom gave you 1/3 of the game for free, encouraged you to share with your friends and had the "How to Order the Full Game" info display once you beat the final level. Mount & Blade gave you full access to the entire game but capped your level at 7, if you like the game you can buy an activation code and keep using your save games with your demo character.

Here is something else to think about. Demo's are for convincing people to buy the game by giving them something to try out.

Demos also give you a good idea of how well the game will play with your PC. Since Skyrim is using a brand new engine there are a lot of technical details that could cause problems, I would prefer that the developers are aware of those problems before the initial release.

I think there could be a demo that completley disables the Console and Mod Support and puts the notoriuos invisible walls about 1-2 cells away from the initial city/town where the game starts. There would not even be a need to include textures and models for things outside that area in the demo BSA.

Ehm, demos are not for us, they are for potential customers that have no idea what it is all about. We are not potential, we are sure buyers :P Arma2 which is also a sandbox game with endless terrain, had a demo with limited abilities and just a tiny fleck of terrain. But it all depends on how terrain is included. If the character editor is mind blowing, I'd like to toy around with that the last couple of weeks as a standalone program. Do I expect it? No :P

NO! I don't want a little part of the game, I rather enjoy the entire game, right out of the box! ^^
