Should thieves break into your house and steal your loot?

I'm probably going to say no on this one.

Sure, people will argue that it's realistic for the player to be vulnerable to theft... but it's equally unrealistic for a quest to be triggered immediately after the theft, or some other opportunity to get the items back. Once those items have been stolen from you, they should be lost to you for good. I think far too many people would complain about that.

I'd also like to see the ability to lock your stuff up, or set traps to try and safeguard your stuff. I'd look for homes in the city to be more of a target than remote locations as well.

No, but it would be cool if they stole from other people, so I can catch them (or join them!)

The thefts can be part of the "radiant quest" system. Upon returning to your house a quest initiates and involves tracking down your stolen goods.
