Should thieves break into your house and steal your loot?

Post » Wed Aug 11, 2010 3:47 pm

yes, again. If only you can get it back

This. I have no problem hunting down and smashing in the faces of someone who stole my equipment. I feel like the radiant quest system would be able to handle this sort of event pretty well.

No. Unless you can ask around town about stolen items, which leads you to finding the thief and getting your stuff back.
Joining the Thieves Guild should stop any type of burglary threat to your home, if it was in.

House? HOUSE?! Why in oblivion you'd want a house?! You play TES to have an awesome adventure, not a family life.
I want to be able to permanently clear a dungeon and use it to store my junks. Maybe even have a dragon to guard it as well...
If a random NPC wants to break in, he'd have to get through him. If he's successful, I'd have to track down the thief and mount his head at the entry as an warning.

Yes, but only if its possible and reasonable to be able to get it back. I would like to be able to see people pickpocket you, if you're paying attention you will stop them, but I'm unsure about people being able to break into your house. If someone did, there should be ways of getting your stuff back, like the thief would equip some of your stuff, or you could ask around town to gather information on the culprit. Also, the person should be arrested by the guards of course.

This would annoy me. The only loot I put on display at my houses would be artifacts and unique items, so if they get stolen that'd make me rage. Unless you can get a very hard lock and a key for it so I can lock my door at all times.

I hope we can get a TES equivalent of Wadsworth if they do implement this. :flamethrower:

'Should thieves break into your house and steal your loot?'

Only if they want to get eaten by a summoned dragon. :toughninja:

It would be cool if NPCs do it though but there should be ways to prevent it from happening.

Only if it starts a quest or you can go and get it back somehow. If it's just gone then definitely no.

No. With all the types of bugs that can happen in a TES, the last thing Id want is for X person to steal something of mine and it disappearing forever. Or the culprit dead in the woods somewhere never to be found by anyone.

No, even if you can hunt the thief down and get the stuff back, doing so after 3 times it will get tiring.

Not to mention it'd be tough to balance.

Yes, it's a neat little idea that adds immersion and really makes you feel more a part of the world.

But if they make it set too much and they rob your house constantly, you'll be looking all over the city for your loot that was stolen. If it doesn't happen enough, then it's a feature they added that you'll never notice.

Now I know that my vote isn't the popular one but I myself said yes.. now let me explain why. I would only love it if I could buy traps for my home or guards. Come on, they had some pretty fun traps in Ayelid (forgive me if i misspelled) ruins in Oblivion and just imagine coming home to seeing a dirty little thief caught dead in said trap. Loot the body and toss it in a pit. Or you could have the pit itself as the trap.. it rubs the lotion on the skin! LoL gross

Edit: also forgot to mention that magical enchantments on doors and chests would be awesome in response to this as well.

No. Would be just a pain in the ass for them stealing my valuables and then chasing them... I want one place to be 100% safe ( ;

Hell no.

You adjust your books in the bookcase, sort your clothing from your armor, and put your artifacts in a special room. Only to have a thief steal it and destroying all your work!?

No, just no. Your house should be a safe haven without any respawning containers or hostile intruders.

Earlier today, I spent close to 15 mins just trying to stand a dinky dino toy on the shelf of my Fallout NV safehouse. (It was a slow day), so I can see your point.

imo it would add a lot more to immersion.

Immersion stops being important when it starts making gameplay suffer.

The game randomly deciding to get rid of the loot you've found? Bad gameplay.

isnt the point of having a house to have a safe place to store your stuff?

I'm sure that's what the NPC's you robbed in Oblivion thought before they found all their stuff taken.

It depends... It could be kind of interesting, but at the same time, finding Goldbrand, then having to trek across the frozen wastes because some turd stole it from your quarters...

Overall, I think it'd be too hard to make it interesting, but not a total lesson in epic frustration. I'll pass.

Hmm, having things stolen seems like it might be more annoying than fun if you have no way of getting the items back or it happens regularly. Not a bad idea for the starting point to some kind of quest though.

Probably not the best idea to have your hard earned stuff stolen (at least not permanently), but on the other hand it could make for an interesting quest from time to time to track down and kill/arrest/whatever the thieves who stole from you.

Actually, I think this is a good idea, expicialy if the "thieves guild" (if there is one) dislikes you.
However, you could join the thieves guild to prevent this.

And if you are against the thieves guild, then simply sneak into every thieve's members house and kill them in their sleep before they even attempt to steal from you. :whistling:

I didn't rob NPC's because they had nothing of value in Oblivion. Go the the basemant and find a hard locked chest, open it to find 3 gold, calipers and folding cloth.

I think we can all agree on something here. A radiant AI quest where a random NPC who is stealthy and dislikes you steals some of your stuff, you have an investigation quest to track him down and take it back.

But not a part of the AI to steal from you, just a random quest.
