Should thieves break into your house and steal your loot?

Post » Wed Aug 11, 2010 9:00 am

So long as there is a way to protect/recover your items. Sure. Or have it only in the hardcoe mode we are all hoping for.
Also the ability to buy/upgrade locks would be cool.

No, absolutely no, this would have me throwing my monitor out of the nearest window in rage. I've been burgled IRL and it's very unpleasant, in Skyrim that would be too much realism - if I put my stuff somewhere I want to know it's completely safe.

I don't see it being an issue if they left it as an option and made it turned off by default. At the same time I like my idea of being able to booby trap my house to catch and/or kill them.

Immersion stops being important when it starts making gameplay suffer.

The game randomly deciding to get rid of the loot you've found? Bad gameplay.
This.
But a specific quest object being stolen from my house? That would be ok, but only if the item was left unguarded.
Hate when no matter what I do to prevent it, an event always happen because it was scripted. Give me more options!

Well, I see that most people don't want this feature just because it's hard to set it back on shelves/tables.
What if they made shelves more easier to use then? Such as clicking the A button near the shelf, and then it zooms in and you'l be able to set stuff on the shelf easily.

Maybe, it would also be pretty cool if you sometimes wake up and there is a robber hiding in a corner hoping you don't see him and maybe you don't then he steals your stuff.

voted no. but would vote yes if items such as unique items were protected or excluded from theft. and only generic dungeon loot stuff got stolen.

Hell no.

You adjust your books in the bookcase, sort your clothing from your armor, and put your artifacts in a special room. Only to have a thief steal it and destroying all your work!?

No, just no. Your house should be a safe haven without any respawning containers or hostile intruders.

This. My houses are museus for my relics, as such no thieves :nono: I still left bodyguards in my houses though just for RP value :D

We should have the capability to lock our doors, and buy some sort of safe that most thieves cannot get into, and put valuables in it. And the ability to steal our stuff back, if we could do that, and with those conditions, I wouldn't be against it, it would certainly add depth to the game.

I never understood why folks didn't break into my Imperial Shack. Especially since it was right next to the Thieves Guild... and it had all my expensive crap in there.

Because the thieves were not suppose to steal from the people living in the waterfront.

imo it would add a lot more to immersion.
Yes, along with a [censored] headache, followed by constant tedious "I need to [censored] lock my house and every belonging all the time and never have anything on display."

There's "immurshun" and then there's a [censored] pain in the ass. This idea is the latter, especially because nearly everyone stores their artifacts, named, and sentimental items at a home.

Immersion stops being important when it starts making gameplay suffer.

This 1000 times.

I would personally find it hilarious to come home to a dead guy on the floor because my chest had the ultimate fire/snow/thunder blast effect on the chest xD

Yes, because I remember being promised (back when Oblivion was coming out) that people would be able to pickpocket you. Which, I saw none of, having npcs have that much more human aspects is what can make this game even greater than it's destined to be.

It depends... It could be kind of interesting, but at the same time, finding Goldbrand, then having to trek across the frozen wastes because some turd stole it from your quarters...

...only to find said turd died while you were on the opposite side of the map cell, and you never manage to find them. (Or, for obvious reasons, see Goldbrand again.)

I have to say, there is nothing else they could add that would piss me off more than having my loot disappear in some way. In previous TES games I've made it a point to gather every unique item and one of each basic item, I'd be quite annoyed if that was taken at random.

Would make an interesting side quest to get your stuff back.

I can't really say this would sit well with me. I voted "don't know" because it would really have to be implemented well.

The fanatical tyrant called "Immersion" must be shot and killed. It's gone too far if this is where it's now set it sights. Honestly, immersion this, immersion that, I can't take it. In the name of immersion, what's next, not being able to reload when my character dies? How does one ever forget they are playing a video game, in the first place? What does having my items stolen have to do with "immersion"?

I voted no.

Agreed.

Been done. Besides, there are worse things:

Uh...so would having someone kick you in the 'nads every time your character got hit in combat, but I wouldn't want that either and feel equally strongly about my "no" to both.

I meant that the character is forever erased from my platform's hard drive when he/she dies and I must start over.

Which is exactly what I took you as meaning, and it's been done before in multiple games.

Realism or not, I don't think people want random occurances in video games that can only annoy you like this. It'd happen at least once to everyone, and at that point I just wouldn't keep my stuff in a house, or mod that feature out or something. It's as annoying as not going partway through the Tribunal questline in Morrowind, and waking up every once in a while to find an assassin or two in your room with equipment much better than yours.
