Should I Try Again?

Post » Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:21 pm

Its been a while since I played Fallout: New Vegas and since my last post on these forums but I've been trying to decide if i should try playing FNV again so I decided to ask for help.

Reasons I think i should play:

I didn't finish the main story
I like fallout
There have been patches since I last played
I have nothing else to play

Reasons not to play:

bugs (but the ones i had were fixed)
many elements of the game I didn't like, restrictions on where you can explore, ridiculous terrain features, emptiness of the strip, inability to jump off the hoover dam
The main reason is Time Compression I have a Apr 20th deadline to finish it so I can play Portal 2.

If you have not even finished the main quest then yes play it again!

There are four ways to finish the main quest.
Try it on hardcoe mode. If you don''t like it you can turn it off.
The bugs have been fixed. I have had few bug troubles but they are pretty much gone now. I play on PC.

If you like Fallout then I don't get why you have not finished Fallout New Vegas. Unless by fan of Fallout you mean fan of Fallout 3.

well I stopped playing because things i didnt like sort of piled up one after another, first was the lack of a metro system, next was some terrain things i didn't like such as the road up to the Mojave outpost was impossibly steep and other things like that, the INVISIBLE WALLS just enraged me more, then my follower stopped following and talking to me (i think this was on the list of fixed bugs), then i got to the strip and it was completely empty of people (other than quest npcs), the last straw was invisible walls on the hoover dam i REALLY wanted to jump off of it,

but my anger has somewhat subsided (i really hate invisible walls)

btw yes i only played fallout 3 before FNV but I like FNVs mix of fps and rpg with more rpg

Jesus, just play the game and stop being so picky. Complaining about freezing issues is one thing, but lack of people on the strip? No metro? Come on.

And I've always been able to jump of the back of Hoover dam. Dunno why you'd wanna jump off the front.

What?! I can't jump off the Hoover Dam?! This game blows now! Way to go Obsidian! (large amount of sarcasm)

If you haven't even beaten the main quest line and you love Fallout, then of course play it! What is this I don't even...

It was a RPG from the beginning, well, until Fallout 3 at least, and then again in New Vegas

If you've nothing else to play, you might as well try again, you can always quit if it continues to annoy you.

(Why do you want to jump off Hoover Dam? That's never going to end well.)

Metro System is a pain in the butt. Only way to get to some locations is by using them. New Vegas has a sewer system as well as train tunnels, caves and Vaults. Lots to explore and best of all you arn't forced to go crawling around them if you don't want to.

Just play through it and save often! If you do that you won't have a problem :) This is my favorite game, but as of now I'm trying oblivion for the first time.

WoW I complain about alot of stuff in nv,but not having a metro system is not one of them. I ve never been to Vegas and maybe there is a metro there or maybe not, but its not really an issue in the little section of vegas they have. Now DC and the was they did that map everyone already knows metro is a big part of DC.

The 2 settings dictate alot of what could be done. DC was just done better. They went there studied aspects of the place. Where in nv I don t feel this is even close to Vegas (i have seen it on tv).

None of that means you shouldn t play nv it is still a good game. It still freezing (on ps3) but, its manageable most of the time. There is plenty to explore just not as much as major city ruins. There r no restraints, Im not sure what you r talking abou there.

thats where you'd be wrong....XD

most of the settlements in NV are real places,

to name a few off the top of my head....

Vegas is surrounded by desert just like it is ingame

hey that looks familiar doesn't it?

You also realize that the Vegas strip in game is merely a tiny portion of the whole strip?

I wish they would have added like the rest of the strip as casino ruins. That was my vision while waiting for this game. I knew there would be some working casinos, but I just invisioned walking through 200 year old casinos and finding pre war notes and holotapes. Like a boat load of pre war money. Maybe its just me. I think it would have been cool. That s what I love about the idea of fo is walking into places where time just stopped, and I try to look for what went on there when they realized what was going down.

You're just going to need to let it go about the things you don't care for and focus on what you do like. There's so much in the game...you'll find your favored things and avoid the things you find annoying. Want to see my little Courier punch a Deathclaw and send him flying? :D

Thanks for your replies.

I will play again. but just to clear up the some things

I had never even considered whether or not Vegas actually has a metro nor do I want to go trudging through abandoned tunnels. Its just that the metro was a large part of FO3 and with the FO3 and FNV maps being comparable in size made it seem like there was less content in FNV, furthermore the "restrictions" I was talking about are the invisible walls within the playable area and the misleading size of the map where almost 1/3 is inaccessible

Since its been patched you might have to restart the game and DO NOT override your saves... along with AVIOD using the mini-gun along with do not give it to your companions!

otherwise have fun.

"I dont care for NV very much"
"Why is that man, its a cool game"?
"You cant jump off the dam, when I bought it I assumed Obsidian would have at least put something that important in the game,it just ruined it for me"
"Thats it? You love Fallout, you haven't even finished the main quest yet, and the only reason you wont finish it is because you cant jump off the dam?"
"Yup"

All jokes aside, play it again, you'll be glad you did. If you dont i'll have my ranger brothers hunt you down and make your dream of flying of the dam a reality.

I guess it is kinda silly to want to jump off the hoover dam but before I got the game I had no reason to believe that I wouldn't be able too especially having jumped off tenpenny tower, rivet city and comm relays in fallout 3, it was just disappointing.

I am playing again, resumed my previous game that i had 40 hrs in without a hitch, the bugs i had are gone, except for the radio playing the same songs constantly and my gun popping up into my line of sight when im walking, but that aint nothing but a thing.

Who says the brotherhood of steel hasn't threw him off already *stands there with a platoon of bos paladins* but seriously give fonv another go make a character to role play as i'm usually some sort of undercover bos paladin who collects dead ncr soldiers and puts them in his lucky 38 suit.
