Should I Try This?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 12:28 pm

I'm thinking about going through Fallout 3 on Very Hard with MMM and the harshest settings in FWE. You think I should attempt this? I've gotten a bit bored of crushing everything in the wastes and I want to remind myself that in a real apocalypse, I'd die within 5 minutes =P.

Tehe. It's not that bad, I play like that, too. Guess I'll really think New Vegas is very easy when it's out. ^_^
Anyway, the main thing to remember is to only keep three guns for yourself (long, mid and short range) and one CC weapon. And that the start of the game fighting is mainly spot enemy -> VATS -> hide, recharge -> VATS and so on.

Do it without followers, or it's meaningless.

Well, it's counterbalanced by them stealing all your kills after you've equipped them with stuff like the god-like H&K CAWS. But yes, I don't like these ninja looting people, too. ^_^

Yeah, I don't intend to take followers.

To me, it feels more like a survival game than a combat-RPG.

Also, especially since I'm playing with Fellout, which makes night time really, REALLY dark and Realistic Interior Lighting, which makes interiors pretty much black without a light source, things can get pretty tense. For example, I decided to check out the outside of Springvale school. At midnight. About 5 seconds later, I was running for my life back to Megaton with about 5% of my health, both legs and an arm crippled, being followed by 15 raiders. Once again, it didn't help that it was pretty much pitch black.

Traders are really bad, a half-repaired sniper rifle, my best weapon, only sells for 15 caps.

Warrington station was a NIGHTMARE. 50 ghouls. 1 Stealthboy. If I bump in to one, they all attack. How fun.

Also, for the first time EVER, I actually used a hotel.

EDIT: I actually highly recommend trying this, just for the experience. Not that it isn't fun.

EDIT 2: Oh god.... what am I going to do when I run in to Super Mutants?

EDIT 3: Or Deathclaws? And playing with MMM, there will be Matriarchs, too.... I'm scared.
I don't even want to think about facing a Gargantuan like this.

lol, good luck!

Might want to download http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2725. It uses batteries so it's more balanced than other nightvision mods, and just imagine going through Dunwich Building with it on, and only 6 shells for your Combat Shotgun. Suddenly, your batteries run out and you're halfway through the building after having used 5 stealthboys to get to that point. you only have two stealthboys left and you passed 50+ Ghouls on your way in.

I love the false sense of security it gives you. :fallout:

FWE already comes with a night vision mod, and since I'm doing all the harshest settings, it costs an energy cell every 10 seconds.

Savage Wasteland 2.0 now if this was added to your list of mods :-)

That mod looks cool, but I think it would make the game easier for me- with fewer ranged enemies, it would be much, much easier for me to run away. And trust me, if you choose to play like I am, you'll be running away quite a lot.

Do it without VATS. VATS makes everything easy. Though, if you do go the none-VATS route, you can feel fair if you decrease guns' spread a little in the GECK, otherwise they're all pretty useless.

There are two parts to it actually, the Unfound Loot part will make scaving for ammo much harder, scaving for a lot of other things too. The other part does make the game easier as long as you can keep yourself well stocked with ammo, otherwise you have raiders using ghoul tactics and rushing you from all directions, except the one or two who do have firearms. Which is the more immediate threat, which is the bigger threat? (but yeah it still needs some tweaking) You could also check out my http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12738 mod. If your torso gets wounded you will actually bleed to death.

You shouldn't use Combat Enhanced - Package, Accuracy Tweaks, or Realistic Bodypart Damage with my Realism Tweaks (my mod already does all that, and the combination will cause MAJOR conflicts). And you should also use my MMM patch. I'm not sure about the Unleveled Lists mod (as FO3Nexus is offline today), but I'm guessing that it might also conflict if you are also using my Less-Is-More module.

It does?

I've never noticed it!

EDIT: Oh, it's only for power armor? Well, in that case I'll keep the goggles as well. (It uses an energy cell ever 10 seconds as well) It's hard to be a stealth character while wearing bulky armor B)

Spoiler
You can eat the ghoul eyes to have night vision as well (believe that is an MMM, but not 100% sure)

Actually, with FWE, there are choice about how much damage you take in VATS, and like I said before, all harshest settings, so I take full damage in VATS.

I can't get anywhere near Project Purity, both the inside and outside have at least 30 super mutants. I barely take down 3, let alone 30. I have 1 stealth boy. I tried getting in and out as fast as possible, but I run out in before I get to safety and I'm dead before I've finished reading the "Stealth Boy has worn off" message. I think no fast travel is the hardest thing. I can only fast travel to and from certain cities using the alternate travel feature, and that costs at least 100 caps. That might not sound like a lot, but even if I sold all my weapons, I'd only have about 250 caps.

I give up. I think it's the increased increased spawns that's making it so amazingly difficult. I might try this without increased spawns at a later date. But after I gave up, I decided to keep playing, but DiD (dead is dead).

After venturing away from Big Town, I ran in to a group of about 11 Super Mutants, most of them with machine guns that could take off 80% of my health in one shot. I ran back to Big Town, and laid the two frag mines I had on the bridge, then hid behind cover. The poor residents of Big Town stood no chance. I managed to sneak attack one of the mutants and take his machine gun, and managed to take down about 5 more after that, before being mowed down by the remaining few mutants.

If you want a huge challenge, I recommend trying this. If you want a not-quite-as-huge challenge, try this, but without increased increased/increased spawns.
