Should I update the link on my mod list to...

Post » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:19 am

I would've asked in the MPP thread, but I can't seem to find it.

Anyways, I don't see any reason why I shouldn't. Plus, it's damn near impossible to find the download link for the beta version, so having it linked to/hosted from my site might help.

I link to the UESP wiki, and figure people can make their own decision which version to get:

Yes, but I tend to assume that my readers are idiots, hence a mod list that does all of the thinking for them >.>

Thanks, though. I've been looking all over for that link. Never thought to look for it on the wiki.

should go advertising that like that.

BUT back on topic - I wouldnt link to the beta. its a beta for a reason - as in still may contain problems - so if you think that us, as your users, are as stupid as you think perhaps its best to keep it simple with working mods?

See, that's what I thought for awhile, at least until it became apparent that the Beta wasn't going to be getting OUT of beta anytime soon.

There is, as far as I'm aware, a grand total of one problem that it has that the previous version does not (the Threads of the Webspinner topics). And I've addressed it simply by whipping up a quick "dirty" plugin that reverts the fixes back to the Bethesda default settings.

So, yeah, it seems like a silly thing to avoid a set of otherwise well-deserved fixes because of.

hmm is that the only problem? Then I cant understand why its not coming out of BETA anytime soon

I guess that you just link to the no beta one for now? Or perhaps make an "offical" fix for the BETA version?

Well, the reason it isn't coming out of Beta anytime soon is that nobody has seen Quarn since the Bush administration >.>

Well, as "official" as any of my quick-fixes qualify as, I suppose.

That's probably what I'll end up doing, though. Hell, I've already updated my mod to include fixes from the 1.6.5 Beta, so it would seem weird to link to an older version of it at this point.

Yeeee-HAW!

Er... yeah, I dunno. I don't really feel worthy of it. I'm more than happy to offer what support I can, but I certainly don't feel like I can fill Quarn's shoes.

Should I keep UMP 1.63b?

Are the problems concerning only 1.65b?

I'd recommend using 1.65.

Oh. Right.

I was just going to package my patch along with the download for the beta.

Ok. I'll use 1.65 then. With your fix of course. ;)

Wasn't there other issues? I can't find the old thread.

Neither could I. Hence the new thread.

Anyways...

That's the Beta patch along with my fix. There's no readme yet, as I typically always include one with my fixes... but it should be pretty self-explanatory.

Before taking over anyone's project, it would probably be a good idea to get the author's name correct - he goes by http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/user/366334-quorn/. ;)

Here's links to the most recent MPP threads (both have been locked for post count):
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1041190-beta-relz-morrowind-patch-project-165-beta
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/966509-release-morrowind-patch-project-v164

As recommended tho, it's best to use v1.6.5 as it fixes some things from v1.6.4 - the beta designation is mostly just to note that the 1.6.5 release would be finalized after extensive use and feedback by as many people as possible to expose any showstopping bugs.

Potato... potahto... >.>

But yeah, I don't really have any desire to take over for him... just to do my best to present and preserve the work he's produced thus far.

Well, that's what I'm hoping. Again, I see no reason for anyone to be sticking around with any of the old versions since I've fixed the only problem(s) that I'm aware of in the current one.
