Shouldn't we be able to...

...fix up some of the wrecked vehicles? There are dozens, if not hundreds of vehicle wrecks across the map, from motorcycles to tanks.

Everything we'd need to build a Mad Max combat car or two is already on display in the game: we have steel and glass, plastic and rubber. Gears, ceramic, circuitry. Internal combustion engines are still a thing, as evidenced by the gas/diesel generators and BoS vertiberds. Even the turrets and spotlights appear to have a lawnmower or weedwhacker motor in them.

Given the PC's handyman skillz (it's amazing what you can make using only tin cans, pencils, duct tape and a teddy bear) this ought to be possible. I'd love to restore one of those U.S. Military cargo trucks and assign it to a provisioner with a long route.

Thoughts?

Mods.

Beth won't do that. Thing is, the landscape isn't really made for vehicles either, too bumpy and uneven. So mods are the only recourse for that particular itch. There's a few for FONV so, time will tell.

Mods will probably do it...but it will be like wearing a car disguise like when we were kids running around with a car-shaped box going zooom!

No big, I'm 34 years old and I still do that :P

@ A5m0d3us: I'm sure the vehicles we'd make would be quite robust and offroad-capable, and provisioners tend to stay on the roads where possible. MY trucks would have large V-Ploughs to bash obstacles out of the way, too.

I'd also like to be able to harvest cars and tires and so on in the landscape, same as we harvest plants. So that we gain materials and the object stays there (in a degraded form perhaps), then respawns a few days later.

Would work well with the restoring cars idea as well as with settlements.

That's a brilliant idea actually, get a smattering of steel/oil/rubber and what by "harvesting" an auto.

If Bethesda doesn't patch in misc harvesting of cars/tires/tree logs etc I hope a modder does at least.

I need a modder to allow me to harvest trees. Nearly everything you pick up has steel in it. Wood though? That's exclusive to cutting boards, pipe guns and baseball bats, apparently.

200 year old rusted engine nuclear powered car...in a land where no one has any car repair knowledge.

That's going to end well.....

I'm sure between our PC and Sturges, it'd get sorted. Cars ain't that hard, I used to be a mechanic.

And I'm sure we would be scrapping the atomic drives (which are likely beyond repair, as you suggest) and installing simpler, conventional drivetrain.

EDIT: If you check out the Atom Cats garage, they appear to be in the process of restoring an old Corvega.

No. That's a different game entirely.

Raiders repair and modify 200 year old power armors. I don't think they have a degree in nuclear science. Yes, super mutants, giant lizards, non fatal rocket head shots, bodies flying like puppets and breaking to pieces from 10mm bullets, but it is the car.... That you question......

I understand how cars and bikes got destroyed, but you would think some of the Tanks could still be working after the bombings.

Cars will be a 'hat'...
