Shout out to ZOS and you! (Who pre-ordered)

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 2:07 pm

O.o

Er, I was just commenting on Spartycus saying "Usually when you get a pre-order special edition, its only for things you will never use." and "So I'm paying only 25% more for stuff I actually get to use! Man its great.

I have no idea why you thought I was implying the rest of the stuff in your post.

Guys! Can we keep the arguments out? This is not a thread for arguments. It's a thread to announce your love for the game via preorder!

I have no idea why people would pay for porm either. But I've heard that lots of people do. And I was just giving you a hard time. (And I'm pleased that it didn't hurt your feelings.)

However, I have no problem at all with buying a CE for a game I want to play. Or for paying for a subscription for a game. And am even willing to pay for things in a cash shop for the same game. Because I understand that Zenimax needs to make money to stay in business and roll out more content. I just want them to fix the bugs and provide good support along the way.

See the unspoken social agreement is that "I give them money" and "they provide me with a game" that I can enjoy. And If, and When, they fail to meet their part of that agreement I stop giving them money. And I walk away. Meaning you won't hear me on their forums complaining. Now I might complain about Zenimax on the forums of the next game I chose. But I won't be back "here" to complain. That's just the way I do things.

You misunderstood my last post you commented on, but I'll try again here. The only problem I have with the "need to make money to stay in business" part is how much of what they are charging for is for staying in business, and how much is for pure profit?

I hope you are asking that question about everything you buy, anywhere, ever

If you're a shareholder, you should be able to find out.

I would worry more though about the profit margins (not to mention the absurd executive salaries) on the gas you put in your car and the bank you trust with your money.

Always amazes me how many people are happily capitalist in every aspect of their daily lives until it comes to computer games, where they're suddenly bolsheviks. Not a putdown btw; I'm more the reverse, a bolshevik in everything except computer games, probably because they give me more happiness per buck than anything else I spend money on :P

Yeah! And I should get to play as a giant if I want!

Or a Klingon!!!

Seriously, griping about the content you want to be free is silly. If you don't like the deal Zeni is offering don't purchase it. That is what I do with the iPhone--I don't like spending a few hundred more for no extra features, so I don't buy one.

Personally, I am shelling out the extra cash for the CE because I like the statue and the 220 page book. I'll get the digital content because it is worth it to have some glory items and a free mount. Besides, the last time I spent money on a launch was GW2, so I think I can afford an extra Jefferson...

My Skyrim costs work out to something like 7.5c an hour played. I expect EOS will cost me a bit more, I have the Imperial Edition. I am pleased with this deal, subscription and all. I have played the beta though and know what I am getting.

I hope we can get to like $100 a year but $125 would be OK.

Oh, I wasn't taking that part in isolation. I meant if Zenimax are charging what they are charging, not because they need it to make a great game, but because they just want to fill the coffers, would CannyOne pay it or not. It was just a curiosity, really.

With that great of goodies ZOS (in the words of Marlon Brando) "made me an offer I can't refuse"

The complaining has filtered here too?

I don't see much wrong with the Imperial edition. All of the items (minus the Imperials) are standard features of any CE. Nothing to complain about there. Now the Imperial thing is odd. It reminds me of Neverwinter's Hero of the North pack only without the truly obscene $200 price tag. Now for that the had special menzo drow, but that was the equivalent of just a skin. However, they did hold back the free drow from the rest of us for like 6 months before general release. Will ZOS do the same? That was rather obnoxious to be honest. It would be better for there to be some in-game method for people to unlock the Imperials. Like a quest line or something. Or they could just go the cash shop route and charge a fee for standard edition users to unlock them. Quite frankly the best choice is definitely the quest unlock one.

I got the CE because well, that's just generally the edition I always get for any game that comes with one. But I have no interest in Imperials. Too bad I can't "gift" them to someone. lol.

Digital Imperial, I was debating between the physical or digital for a while...but then realized I have a few physical CE's from other games and its contents just collect dust and I never bother with them, I only like the in-game goodies...so I guess digital for now on but then again not sure if I'll regret it or not because I'm a big elder scrolls fan...ah well, I'll get over it...hopefully xD

When all is said and done everyone who was going to get it no matter what ordered it today. They would have paid twice what Zenimax charged I would imagine. So maybe Zenimax lost out? What is the real mystery are those people who are truly on the fence and have been. Or guys waiting for a reason to buy the game. If they waited and bought only because of what the CE offered then that is just said. But whatever, business is business. But it would be interesting to see how many more they gained than lost, or vice versa, by some of the decisions they have made with this pre order model.

But count me in the camp of people who are not going to buy it at all now. Mostly because I think the time it goes from where it is now to a free to play or buy to pay option is a very short one. Shorter even than I originally thought. Whether it is 'worth' playing then or not is another mystery, but I wont sweat it if it isnt.

Your decision and I respect it.

However, I've been watching games come out where people were hideously outraged at either CE perks or Day 1 DLC... for YEARS now. The first I was really aware of was Dragon Age: Origins, 2009, though it probably wasn't the first case.

A few of those games flopped, probably for completely different reasons. Most were big successes. So experience suggests to me that this particular issue is not going to impact the success of the game.

Everybody has to make their own decision about what to do with their pocketbook, but it seems that people on your side of the argument are enough of a minority not to outweigh the gains from the others.

well for whatever reasons the few of you have for not wanting to buy or play this game has nothing to do with this topic, if you don't like or want to play this game, then don't , go play your game of choice and let us celebrate our purchase choice .

You didnt have to pay a subscription for most of those. Bottom line is NOT A SINGLE GAME released in the past 8 years has been able to hold a sub model for too long. Rift was the latest game to release and held out for quite a while. But other games folded much faster. But the goal I think these days is to release as a sub and then switch to free to play with a cash shop once the bean counters say so. I sad that about this game from jump street.

We all know Swotor had that goal in mind. I suspect most of these games now that have picked up the 'we are going ot be subscription' mantra are also in that same camp. svckering in the 'elitist' Sub people who think free to play games are scum. So they milk them for what theyre worth then they get the free to play guys who will spend in the cash shop on the other side.

I have said it hundred times, I have ZERO problem with what Zenimax is doing, if the game WAS NOT subscription based. THAT is the game changer for me. It is the principle as well as the predictability of how things are going to shake out. its not hard to predict this game will lose a lot of people, they all do. Having a cash shop just hastens it. Some guys who are still jaded and seeing stars will eventually realize it, then theyll be in here crying about it themselves (after they spent a few hundred buck in box prices, sub fees and store buys), then once the game goes full free to play all the biggest advocates of Zenimax and this game will turn on them. because then its 'personal' because its 'their (the players) game, and they have 'supported' it financially and they have spent money and they expect it to stay exclusive for people who are paying a subscription. Not realizing that was the plan all along and they were the biggest svckers ever for spending like that.

First rule of a con, its a lot easier to con someone than it is to convince them they have been conned. A nice lesson for people to learn. if anyone wants to use it as their sig feel free.

Most of the games that went Free to play actually still have subscription models (Rift, Everquest, Lord Of The Ring Online, Star Wars, Age of Conan, Dungeons and Dragons Online, etc). Without the subscription model you are playing a crippled game. In Star Wars, just to use one example, free to play users customer support is limited to FAQs and the Knowledge Base. Almost all of them also slow you level progression down as well.

So to me, free to play with all the games is equal to a crippled version of the game. I don't want that for ESO.
