Shouts, Awesome or not so much?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:19 pm

IMO shouts were a great addition to the game. Obviously Skyrim will be the only elder scrolls game with shouts but I think it adds another dynamic to an already pretty deep combat system. My personal favorite so far is either the Ice freeze shout or the Fire Breath shout. It also gives a pure warrior character a way to use cool abilities like mages have. I think the addition of shouts ALMOST makes up for the fact that there is no spellcrafting. So what do you think about the addition of shouts? Yay or nay?

It certainly does not make up for the lack of spellcrafting. That being said however, I quite like them. I was worried that I might make every char feel like a mage, but due to the cooldown thing, it's allright.

I find shouts to be very awesome, I haven't discovered that many yet though, although Fus-Ro-Dah'ing my way out of a pinch is always a blast.

Yeah, fully upgraded fire breath is cool, for setting alight to oil patches and frying people. Fus Roh Dah (henceforth refferred to as fuuuuuus roda) was a let down, simply because it didn't sound like the trailer version. Blowing people and small animals off cliffs is still mad fun though  .

I haven't found them to be useful, or atleast not on master difficulty. I just use the wirlwind to move quicker.

I think they are a great addition to the game, and finding word walls i guess is similar to finding oblivion gates in TES4, however i rarely find my self using them in combat at all, as i find it tedious going back through my shouts menu in the heat of combat, with the untidy favourites menu. But it does give all classes that feeling of power.

I like them alot but I hate how the lowliest magic user with a magic shield blocks it, I can see high level mages MAYBE doing it but not all of them, and they know when ur about to do it and have a shield up fast. Very annoying

Exactly the same for me and I'm playing in master too.

So far my most useful shout is probably Ice Form, you can pretty much freeze multiple enemies and completely disable them.

Love the shouts.

Facepalmed over the way they're introduced in the game. Felt like I was reading the game manual when the graybeards spoke.

I only ever use the first one you get, and the one that turns you into a ghost for when I need to escape.

Slow time is the most useful shout i have, they should bring it back as a spell in the next elder scrolls.
