Grrr... if you keep this up I'll have to switch from playing unarmoured players to being a tin can player, it's looking too beautiful to resist
Have you tried this technique on the weapons?
Looking forward to seeing the nifs and discovering how you do it
This technique is nothing new really. The only reason this hasn't ever been done to armor in the past was because the engine (for reasons that Hrnchamd thankfully figured out) wouldn't render reflection/gloss maps on anything that was skinned/physiqued ie armor, clothing, and the like.
I am pretty sure that there are/were some mods that did this to some of the original weapons. Aside from that Phijama, PainkillerRider, VagabondAngel, and several others have used reflections and or "bump maps" on weapons. I however don't have any plans to do this to the weapons if that is what you're getting at. :S
The technique is actually very simple. The toughest part is probably trying to make decent normal maps out of the textures, which sometimes I have to hand paint certain areas so that they translate into the hight map properly. Fortunately I have a tablet which without would be so very tedious. :brokencomputer:
AOF- That looks fantastic! A question/request, though-- are you planning on doing misc. objects as well? The big thing for me is silver/glassware and windows.
I dont have plans to do this to anything other then the armor at the moment. I was working on a project a couple years ago that was going to cover a lot of stuff but It was never finished. I am not sure if I even have any of that stuff yet or if it got lost in the HD crash that I experienced around that time.
Anyway, Ghostnull did a really nice silverware replacer that has reflection maps. It doesn't have any normal/bump maps but I think it looks perfectly fine without. Also there are several mods that add reflection to bottles and other glass type stuff.
I should have enough spare time today to get to the Daedric armor. Hopefully later today I will have a video and a temporary download link for Daedric, Indoril, Glass, and the Adamantium.
