This, and the ordination companion are winning this thread, so far.

The talk of the guar UV prompted me to take a look, and eventually decided to try making it a little more https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59330294/Guar%20UV.JPG. It will, of course, require completely repainted textures.

You know, it's actually surprisingly smooth already? I really learn how do redo bone weighting if I am going to do that in any significant amount. I think improving the UV as a resource is going to be my first step, and if I manage to get it done hopefully someone else will texture if before I have to figure out how to do it myself. *chuckle*

you can't reapply the original vanilla texture to i after?

even if you put together in or two textures all the guar textures?

I ask this, but I don't know anything in modelling ^^

You just started playing two months ago? :ooo: Wow. You're off to quite a start, then - that's a very impressive tumblr account. I'm especially looking forward to seeing where you go with your default head replacers! Two quick questions on that - will you doing males and hair, too?

Also, best of luck with your modeling/animating project. What you've done so far seems to shaping up into something really special.

Well, I started modding Morrowind 2 months ago. I started MODDING 12 years ago, so I do have some experience under my belt. And, working in game dev dosen`t hurt either

The goal is to cover as many races, both genders, as possible, but there are some limitations. Like, say, normal maps - original Morrowind engine dosen`t support normal maps, but OpenMW does, so in a couple of months we`ll have more possibilities for cranking up the visual quality of the models.

Another issue is the fact that Morrowind is past it`s modding "peak" - a lot of people moved on, and with that a lot of knowledge was lost. Plus, current tutorials aren`t quite up to date tech-wise. Better bodies mod was a team effort. I`m just one guy. Unless I manage to assemble a team of people who know what they`re doing, this project could drag on forever

Right. I got that you've been modding awhile poking through your tumblr; from the looks of it you've done some work in Skyrim too, if I'm not mistaken (which also looks top-notch). I even read that little flash back/fireside tale about how you got your modding start with the Sims, too - the nostalgia! *cough* Not that I read just about your entire blog in one sitting or anything. *cough*

I may have. :whistling:

Anyway! I guess I should have been a bit clearer; what I meant was, that for someone who just started playing recently and thus hasn't been immersed in the whole Morrowind atmosphere as long, I think you did a great job of producing assets that suit the spirit of the game and fit right in. I'm really enjoying the way your new Dunmer ladies look in my Vvardenfell, for instance; in my opinion they seem right at home. So you can consider me a fan.

And I wouldn't say the TES:III modding community is heading into its final decline quite yet. The volume of its output might be a little smaller than in the past, but I believe the quality of some of the more recent releases we're seeing more than makes up for it. Also, in my experience at least, modders here are very generous with their hard-earned knowledge and experience and willing to help even bumblers like me learn a thing or two. So don't despair! If you're stuck somewhere, try putting out a call for assistance in a thread - chances are you'll catch someone's ear.

Oh, and I've never done this before, but since you're new to the forums: http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg

Hats off for these artistic head textures! Not my cup of tea but I admire your skill as a painter.
(out of curiosity, wich drawing tablet do you use? Or do you even have one of these screens to paint on directly?)

Thanks! I personally never really liked the photo pasted faces myself, as they looked out of place for my taste, so I decided to do something about it.

As for the tablet, I`m using a very cheap genius pen one. Ultimately, it comes down to skill and not tools, tho I should be upgrading to more professional tools (due to work).

Oh and FoundInTheGrass, thanks for the fishy stick

With "not my cup of tea" I meant the style (ductus?) of your drawings, I am all for painted textures. I am like one of three persons who loves the vanilla faces tho.

Wacom. Buy a Wacom. You will never regret it

Yes. IMO it was kinda funny seeing faces made from celebrity photos, especially on low poly head meshes that are limited in its deformation capabilities. They just...stuck out way too much for my personal taste. Which is why I`m working on these new heads, both meshes and textures, that should somewhat blend in seamlessly.

As for a Wacom...yea, well, I could buy a Wacom. Or I could eat and pay bills for 6 months...:D

Amen!

Don't know to how big tablets you are used, but at home I have great fun with my little bamboo (http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?pid=9240&lang=en). Rather cheap and still high quality!

I can second that one. My boyfriend uses one (he's a digital animation major), and his Bamboo's never been found wanting yet.

I have usually attempted to make new UV's fit the old textures, but these have no chance whatsoever. Making the entire body (haven't tried the arms or legs yet) one seamless piece means that the old textures just won't fit, and they aren't made to fit together seamlessly in any case.

Hopefully I can even get it to export from Blender, since getting the scamp out was a pain. Speaking of which, I should really put out another scamp version.

My antivirus is sending up a bunch of red flags when I try to view this and won't let me go to the site. I didn't have this problem with your guar photo though (which looks a lot better, btw)

MacKom =>

Can you create a tutorial or explain in a topic how have you done this?

By the way to keep animation of the Morrowind head (smoothed or else) you need the 3DSMax 4.5 program, which is the one Bethesda used at the time.

I see you went through my tumblr

That post was made by another modder, Nuska, I just reblogged it. It would appear she has moved on since then and has no interest in working on this project. So we`re back to square one.

Also, 3DSM 4.5 is an old, OLD version. I`m using 2010 version myself, which can be considered old as well.

The alit looks cool, but are those things on his nose eyes or nostrils? I never could tell in the vanilla game either, heheh, but it is more noticable with a high resolution texture.

I don't know too, is alit have eyes or nostrils in the front of head. In the oricinal texture black things in the front of the head look not understandable.
