I'm struggling between looking cool and actually being able to survive in survival mode, the only practical thing to do is either put on as much armor as possible or run around in power armor all the time....

Malcolm Young was a troubled, but smart kid. He was a noisemaker and full of mischief. A few problems with his conservative parents and his love of his guitar and rock and roll meant that he was sent into military school as a teenager. He stayed with the military, mainly because it was there he discovered his other talent: Marksmanship, and very keen senses. It was this or earn no money busking on the street, so he went with it. He served as a recon soldier in Anchorage, and was part of the final T-51b assault team that took down General Jingwei's stronghold. He was always a bit of a loner, but he met his wife, Nora, at a bar shortly after getting back. The two were inseparable. He loved his son and wife to the ends of the earth and back, and would do anything for them.

During the apocalypse, he has done his best to survive and honor Nora's memory in his search for Shaun. He relies mostly on stealth and his trusty sniper rifle to survive (survival difficulty is crazy), and has joined up with the Minutemen to help rebuild the Commonwealth. He's always been slightly morally grey, however he feels that the common good is sometimes just worth fighting for. If humans stick together and learn from their mistakes, he believes they can rebuild a better world.

As for the role-play, his name is Francis, which is auspiciously my middle name and not Frank Zappa's name. Good-natured ass - the hero the wasteland needs, but not the one they want. Former soldier, astronaut, and over time has lost all respect for authority figures that abuse their power, or exploit the weak. As of now, he can handle anything the wasteland throws at him with a solid 11 Endurance.

"War. War never changes." A former Recon Sniper attached to the 7th ACR in Anchorage, adjusting to life after "The Bomb" has been a challenge. His wife is dead, his son is missing, and he hasn't the faintest clue where to begin looking. This new world he finds himself in is vastly different from the life he left behind.

Recon and sniper training instilled in him the value of patience, of gathering and anolyzing new information before choosing a course of action. And so, he finds himself allied with a rag-tag paramilitary group called the Minutemen. Perhaps helping to rebuild the organization will lead to contacts and information about his missing son. And he prays that the day comes soon when the rest of his military training can come into play...


edit: I'm conveniently "forgetting" that Mama Murphy points you a certain direction. It's as good of a reason as any to avoid the main storyline for a bit as I get Jonah up and running.
