Screenshot Guidelines ( MUST READ BEFORE POSTING! ):
(Thanks to bashur and Matthew Kaine(?) for the original versions of this set of guidelines over in the Oblivion Mods section )

  • No criticism should be directed at a person - only constructive criticism at the posters work
    • How you should not post criticism: "That screenshot is really lame! The poster needs to learn how to screenshot!"
    • How you should post criticism: "I'm not really a fan of that screenshot; In my opinion it could use a little more flair. Maybe try to have the angle at a diagonal slant with the sun behind them, that will give them a nice silhouette."
  • If you find a post offensive, REPORT IT !
    • Moderators know to to quickly deal with any situation of this nature, and will remove any offensive posts.
    • Arguing, instigating, or making demands regarding the post invariably ends up worsening the situation.
    • Not following the above rules could result in all involved parties getting a warning, even those defending themselves.
  • Commenting on a posters style of play in screenshots:
    • Members have a wide variety of playing styles and of capturing screenshots.
    • No subjective (or moral, ethnic, political, religious, cultural, social, sixual, etc.) preferences should be dictated to others as right or wrong in this thread.
    • All members are encouraged to post their screenshots regardless of their style of play, as long as they stay within the rules of this forum and thread.

Messages from the Moderators regarding this thread
"If someone barrels in and decides that the opening post guidelines for this thread are not applicable to them,
just report them, don't bother responding. Criticism for screenshots is fine, as long as it's constructive.
"I think it's stupid" and comments of that ilk? Are not criticism. They're just rather belligerant.
Don't like a particular screenshot - then don't bloody comment." - Leydenne

"If you don't care for a particular screenshot, you do not need to comment on it. If you have constructive feedback, that is fine. And people receiving polite feedback, don't get your back up.

But just because you don't like some of the looks, or feel they show too much skin, or whatever, as long as they do not break our forum rules, you'll have to restrain yourself. Sorry- no one cares if you don't like the skimpy shots. Sure, some of them may be over the top or whatever, or simply not to one's taste, but again- if they do not break our screenshot rules, then they are fine.

Post screenshots that are pretty, that are fun, or funny or scenic. Be kind to each other. Or don't bother with the thread."- Leydenne

Tips (under development)
Camera Tips (for basic screenshots without a third-party program):

  • Press F on your keyboard to switch back and forth from first, to third-person view
  • Press and hold F to change the camera angle by moving your mouse around. This will rotate the camera around your character.
    • A side-to-side mouse movement will rotate the camera around your player
    • A forwards-backwards mouse movement will tilt the camera angle above or below your character
    • The mouse scroll wheel will move the camera closer or farther away
  • You can equip your weapon and/or cast a spell in this position as long as you continue to hold F
  • Press the "Print Screen" or "Prt Scr" button at any time to take your shot.
    • Be careful not to take them too close together or you'll accidentally capture the "screen shot created" message in your shot if your UI is still enabled (see below).

How to disable the UI (Stats Bars, Compass, etc):

  • Open the console by pressing the "~" key on your keyboard
    • This key is located next to your "1" key, above your "TAB" key, and usually below your "ESC" key
    • This will bring up the console, you'll notice a place at the bottom left of your screen where you are now able to type
  • Type TM
  • Press ENTER
  • Then close the console by pressing "~" again
  • Your UI (User Interface) should now be gone
    • To re-enable your UI, type TM in the console again using the steps above

How to enable Free-Flying Camera mode:

  • Open the console by pressing the "~" key on your keyboard
    • This key is located next to your "1" key, above your "TAB" key, and usually below your "ESC" key
    • This will bring up the console, you'll notice a place at the bottom left of your screen where you are now able to type
  • Type TFC
  • OR type TFC 1 to pause the action and enable the free camera.
  • CAUTION: Animations and gametime passage may be suspended with TFC 1, but script functions are not. Scripts may still trigger events even while the actors or props they manipulate are still frozen.
  • Press ENTER
  • Then close the console by pressing "~" again
  • You can then move the camera around using the same keys you would normally use to move your character.
    • To go back to normal, type TFC in the console again using the steps above
  • To change the speed in which the freecam moves, use the console command SUCSM (x), where (x) is the speed multiplier. Default appears to be about 10, which may be unwieldy.

How to panrotate camera while walking:

  • Open the console by pressing the "~" key on your keyboard
    • This key is located next to your "1" key, above your "TAB" key, and usually below your "ESC" key
    • This will bring up the console, you'll notice a place at the bottom left of your screen where you are now able to type
  • Type ANIMCAM
  • Press ENTER
  • Then close the console by pressing "~" again
  • You can now rotate the camera around your character while walking/fighting etc.
    • To go back to normal, type ANIMCAM in the console again using the steps above

How to Disable the AI of any Creature/NPC:

  • Open the console by pressing the "~" key on your keyboard
    • This key is located next to your "1" key, above your "TAB" key, and usually below your "ESC" key
    • This will bring up the console, you'll notice a place at the bottom left of your screen where you are now able to type
  • Type TAI
  • Press ENTER
  • Then close the console by pressing "~" again
  • Entering the command while no actor is selected will cause all actors to stand at idle (but still have idle animation).
  • Using while an actor is selected will freeze them in-place.
  • To return to normal, type TAI in the console again, and press enter.

How to remove Collision from your Character (Clipping):

  • Open the console by pressing the "~" key on your keyboard
    • This key is located next to your "1" key, above your "TAB" key, and usually below your "ESC" key
    • This will bring up the console, you'll notice a place at the bottom left of your screen where you are now able to type
  • Type TCL
  • Press ENTER
  • Then close the console by pressing "~" again
  • To return to normal, type TCL in the console again, and press enter

How to post your screenshots

  • Upload to an image hosting site. There are many popular options for doing so, including a built-in service with Steam. Per asgard: From steam's screenshot manager, you simply select a pic, then hit the upload button. Then you click on 'View online library'where you can manage all your uploaded pics.
  • Copy the URL for your image. The image hosting site you choose usually has a box with code to pick from. You'll want to get the code that refers to BBCode, and a direct URL. Do not bother with getting BBCode Image coding, as this forum does not support embedded images in posts.
  • When you post your screenshot, it's often nice to include some flavor text, rather than just posting an undescriptive URL.
  • The best way to do that is to type out the following: [ url = " TYPE YOUR URL HERE " ] TYPE NAME HERE [ / url ](without spaces)

How to swap out animations (pre CK, PC only)

  • Until pose mods come out, this method is the best option for making your character do things that NPCs can do!
  • You'll need a .bsa extractor. I (Eisoj5) am using a Fallout3 extractor for the time being, but there are more options out there.
  • Open the Skyrim - Animations.bsa file in your .bsa extractor. The animations for character and NPCs are located in themeshes\actors\character\animationsfolder within that file.
  • Extract the animations you want to play with. I (Eisoj5) have a separate folder for all the random stuff I like to mess with/add to Skyrim, so I put them in that folder.
  • Rename the animation you want to use ingame to sneakmtidle.hkx .
  • Copy your new sneakmtidle.hkx to Skyrim\Data\meshes\actors\character\animations. (You will have to create these subfolders if they do not already exist in your directory.)
  • In game, simply press the sneak button and your swapped animation should begin to play! Keep in mind this is only when you're sneaking and not moving. Moving will return to the regular sneak motion animation.
  • To get back to the normal sneak idle animation, just delete sneakmtidle.hkx fromSkyrim\Data\meshes\actors\character\animations.

Lighting Tips (courtesy of UKnightwatch)

To avoid bad lighting, I try to;

  • Not have a bright light directly behind subject
  • Not have a very bright light too close to front of subject
  • Not aim camera directly at a bright light
  • Turn my character into good lighting
  • Make good use of character items such as torch or spells that cast light and such if available

On PC;

Make use of the 'tfc' feature to move the camera accordingly to avoid bad lighting - see begining of this thread

I realise we are not all super smart when it comes to using art packages on PC (points at self as example of dimness) and we do not all have access to professional software - this has its problems.

If you are using a PC, there are some free to download image manipulating programs available - your search engine is your friend! Free software can be very basic but that is all we need. A little time taken to learn the basics of such free programs can pay off really well and bring our screenshots [more] to life.

Using FOV

FOV, or "field-of-view/vision", can help you zoom in for even better close-up shots.

  • Open the console using the ` key.
  • Type fov ##, where lower numbers equal a tighter zoom and higher numbers a wide angle. Close the console.
  • The game is preset to fov 65. FOVs lower than 50 are great for close-ups, but can be hard to frame if your TFC speed is high.
  • To get back to your normal setting, open the console and type either just fov again or fov 65.

MOD SUGGESTION

Here's a small list of mods to make your screenshots more interesting and actractive

  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10870: This mod brings you a figurines allowing you to control yourself, and a special spell that can turn any NPC into brainless puppet doing any animation you want.
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17174: Pinup style poses for your female character... or your male, if you're into that sort of thing (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11811 needed for the mod to work)
  • http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=11757: Removes most of the blurriness from finisher moves and reduce the number of camera cuts in most moves
  • http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7942: Removes drop of blood from screen
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/22745: Adds footprints to the player, NPCs, and creatures
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19660: Adds a snowy visual effect to the player and NPCs when snow is falling. Effects all live and deceased NPCs and wildlife with-in a set radius.
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5164: When drawing an arrow, the arrowhead rests on the hand of all places. Unless you like having a sliced up hand, resting an arrow's head on your hand while it's nocked and drawn is a bad idea.

You may find these guide useful: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19362, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17837 so you won't be lost in all those awesome animations and poses

Dragonborn and Dawnguard pictures can be posted in here. Please advise in your post that the following links in the spoiler tag are from Dragonborn or Dawnguard. PLEASE use the SPOILER TAG Armor from any DLC is fine but quest related locations/persons or battles may be stuff the rest of us have not seen yet.

I love watching Serana use any crafting station nearby. I've also seen her pick up a broom. She was obviously raised well, always pitches in with the chores.

Brianna's adventures in the Reach continue. When we left her, she'd woken up in Markarth after a drinking contest with a guy named Sam. All she had with her was her tavern dress and the Wabbajack. And all her money. She spent the night at the Silver Blood Inn.

http://minus.com/lbjMg0EELUhrVl Probably more for being a Dunmer than her dress, although a Dunmer in that dress is a sight to see anywhere.

http://minus.com/lb0wZ5WhqJ1P7e Bri felt slightly under-equipped to help just at that moment.

http://minus.com/l6TgmT3csruSk Bri wanted no part of my plan for her to run around Wabbajacking baddies in her hootchie dress. My characters are often smarter than me.

She returned to the Vigilant and offered her help, thinking her recent experience with Daedra (Meridia and Sheogorath) might come in handy. The usual wackiness ensued.

http://minus.com/llNCF0mRSFMXa At this point she had figured out she was dealing with Molag Bal, one of the Very Bad Daedra.

http://minus.com/lbzePpe7gYLGWx She likes maces, but this is probably a bad idea.

It was. She declined to become MB's instrument, and he said, paraphrasing, "Ok. Go in peace. Oh, you might want to know there's a priest of Boethia being tortured. You should rescue him and bring him here." Hm, that seemed rather easy to get out of. I smell a trap. She probably should just let that priest rot. What's that, Bri? Boethia is one of the "Good Daedra?"

She doesn't even really believe in that old Dunmer lore; she's thoroughly Imperial and worships the Divines. Well, Daedric quests will have to wait. Brianna has a sword to retrieve and then a staff to track down.

http://minus.com/lbxLsgC9dfmyJh Looks like an interesting place to explore later.

http://minus.com/lbv5BQkkC4Jsas Bri's more of a Kynereth and Stendarr girl, but she'll take any help she can get.

http://minus.com/lbj9A7AotK887G She'd been told in Markarth that she could get to Rorickstead by a path over the ridge.

http://minus.com/lbvbbjET3jixIo "No I won't bring you a drink. Or dance on the table (gods, I've got to get rid of this dress)."

http://minus.com/lzgC7k8RIOWc9 Bri doesn't know yet how common this kind of thing is in Skyrim. She killed the bear, but there was nothing to be done for the couple.

http://minus.com/lbpv2S2wkcbZCn Then she turned north, trying to find some place called Red Eagle's Redoubt to find a sword to make the ghost at Old Hroldan go away.

http://minus.com/lKnkZu1Czgdjv (she'll be back there eventually)

http://minus.com/lCPzwXyo6fnAC

While getting the ghost's sword, she found a book about Red Eagle and decided to investigate (curiosity is one of her weaknesses). This was also her first experience with the Forsworn. It went badly. For them -- she mostly rummaged through their camp while her flame atronach killed them. She's learning that she can depend on her own abilities. This will lead shortly to overconfidence, most likely. "Why shouldn't I go rescue that priest?" I'm sure is going through her head.

In response to Aurora in thread 91. I don't use Moonlight tales. It requires SKSE which I've looked into but am not using yet.

I can't speak for Moonlight Tales (I use Werewolf Mastery), but SKSE is really good, and doesn't really hurt at all. Doesn't take a minute to download and install either.

The following didn't really happen in Jelissa's story (maybe it was a weird dream she had), but it's a consequence of running both Moonlight Tales and the latest version of ESF Companions. Don't click the link if you don't want to know what Jelissa looks like as a werewolf just yet (she does NOT look vanilla).

Spoiler
With ESF Companions, you can spar against the other members. And with Moonlight Tales, Aela, Vilkas and Farkas can turn into werewolves. What I wasn't aware of is that they will turn every time they are under attack, unless you tell them not to. So when Jelissa asked Vilkas to spar with her, I had a WTF moment when he suddenly stepped back and transformed. Just for fun, I transformed Jelissa as well. Just as I had earlier suspected, she's a very small werewolf. They are actually http://i.minus.com/iKSCs3fV0f2RG.jpg. :D

Also, a shameless repost:

Skjor waited for her, and to her surprise, he somehow made an opening appear in the stone wall underneath the Skyforge.

”Welcome to the Underforge, new blood”, he said. ”It only opens to someone with the beast blood.”

In there, http://i.minus.com/ikSkzGAyyILxv.jpg.

”I hope you recognize Aela even in this form”, Skjor said.

http://i.minus.com/ibnGt1hVxe9M60.jpg with her yellow eyes and strangely, http://i.minus.com/i1VZd09zbAnEZ.jpg – not because she had seen Aela as a werewolf before (that had been short and confusing, and she hadn't really noticed any details), but because she recognize Aela's gaze in those yellow eyes – sharp and somewhat amused.

”So, new blood”, Skjor said. ”Are you ready for a gift?”

”You mean...?”

”Yeah. We do this in secret because Kodlak is too busy trying to throw away this great gift we've been granted. He thinks we've been cursed, but we've been blessed. How could something that gives this kind of prowess be a curse? You saw Aela rip those Silver Hand apart in Dustman's Cairn, didn't you? What did you feel? Fear? Excitement?”

”A little of both, I think.” Jelissa looked from Skjor to Aela and back again. They are really offering me this, she thought. She had suspected it would be asked of her, but when Kodlak hadn't mentioned it, she sort of had forgotten to ask, with everything else happening around her.

”So Kodlak doesn't approve of this, then?” she said.

Skjor snorted.

”If he wants to find a cure for himself, fine. But listen – this is what we are. If you want to reach the heights of the Companions, you must join us in the shared blood of the wolf.”

http://i.minus.com/iZOPjM96jnMp.jpg

”That's your choice. We won't force you. But if you want to become one of us, your blood must be as ours. Mine, Aela's, Farkas', Vilkas'. Even Kodlak's. Every member of the Circle for hundreds of years has taken part in this rite. None before has held themselves too special for it.”

His meaning was clear. This was the final test, then, Jelissa thought as he went on to explain how the shared beast blood binded them together as a pack, showing their commitment to forsake all else for Skyrim.

”How can we trust you if you hold yourself apart from this?” he finished. ”If you are unwilling to accept what we all have accepted, what we all have shared?”

She nodded. This was it. Either, she would become one of them, a true shield-sister in the blood, or she might just as well walk away from them.

”Go ahead, then”, she said. http://i.minus.com/in1tAlqX4Pnuv.jpg

http://i.minus.com/i2R3iJhEqQPrv.jpg, letting her blood flow down in the fountain.

”Now drink”, he said.

And Jelissa drank.

Darkness. Confusion. All senses are wrong. Sight isn't important, but listening is, smelling is. A whole new world. Where am I? Where am I going? What is this hunger I feel?

She woke up, http://i.minus.com/ivp84OqKSesIE.jpg, her head spinning. Vague memories of http://i.minus.com/iiA7vzKoY4B6C.jpg came to mind. http://i.minus.com/ibkjI0vwsLbr52.jpg Nails and skin, not claws and fur.

Slowly, Jelissa rose. As a beast, she had been warm, but now she was beginning to freeze.

”Here”, she heard Aela's voice. ”Your armor and weapons. Feeling a little dizzy, right? It takes a few times to get used to it. But you know what? I envy you. The first time is always the most – intense. Gods, you should have seen what Farkas was up to when he turned the first time...”

As she put on her armor, Aela told her a little about how she could grow in power by practise, learning to turn more often, and how she could sustain the beast form by feeding.

”Feeding?”

”On your enemies, sister. You have the stomach for that?” Aela chuckled. ”Be careful where you turn, though. http://i.minus.com/ibcmYojKukb8NB.jpgAnd we are to take on some of those cowards. Up there, there's an old fort taken over by the Silver Hand. Remember? They have sworn some sort of oath to rinse Skyrim from werewolves. The bandit version of the Vigilants of Stendarr, if you might call them that, even though the Vigils fight more than just werewolves. They're brutes and torturers, and we are going to put them down, doing the travellers of Skyrim a favor at the same time. Skjor went ahead. Said he wouldn't embarrass you while being around when you turned human.”

”That's nice of him, I assume.” She readied Zephyr. ”I suppose we should go finding him, then.”

They encountered the first Silver Hands on the courtyard, where Aela impressed Jelissa by turning into a werewolf and ripping them apart while Jelissa shot arrows at them. http://i.minus.com/ibjbkypwkkzGrN.jpg

That often! Jelissa thought. She couldn't even imagine an attempt to turn again already. She wasn't even sure how to do it.

http://i.minus.com/iJ1WNszqkUtGh.jpg, the werewolf Aela and the human Jelissa fought the Silver Hand bandits. They found no sign of Skjor, however.

”We should have caught up with him by now, don't you think?” http://i.minus.com/ittn0IDqhVLbS.jpg ”And have you noticed – there a no bodies except the ones we leave behind. Shouldn't there be, if he went this far?”

http://i.minus.com/ircdxWS094K4B.jpg”Maybe he managed to sneak by them... No, not Skjor. But I'm sure he's alright. He's the strongest of us. Maybe they just have moved whatever dead and wounded he left behind.”

Jelissa had her doubts, but she followed Aela further into the fort anyway.

”Be careful when we meet their leader, he's a tricky one”, Aela warned her. ”He's called http://i.minus.com/iJ7aS9Pq5kGFA.jpg. I think you can imagine why.”

But to skin, you need to stay alive, and http://i.minus.com/iS5xu7Czdsi2O.jpg, the ones alive at the end of it weren't Krev and his Silver Hands.

As they looked around after the fight, http://i.minus.com/iisnxfCN075lw.jpg.

http://i.minus.com/ij1fqvP2qkgeP.jpg, she whispered. http://i.minus.com/ibzIRrqmaXAXGp.jpg

”Is he...?”

Aela nodded, tears streaming down her face.

http://i.minus.com/iOALVS17ykdYV.jpg

http://i.minus.com/invoVYoVFLQsx.jpg, she said. ”I'll have my revenge for this. They will regret they killed Skjor. And you will help me, Jelissa. Won't you?”

http://i.minus.com/iefsKZesNJuLv.jpg

No! These are not the only Silver Hand, don't you know? They are all over Skyrim. Krev wasn't their only leader, he wasn't even a high-ranking one, as far as I know. Skjor wouldn't be dead if these cretins weren't spreading their misguided message around any bandit that are dumb enough to listen and believe. We will wipe them out, Jelissa! You hear that?”

She practically spit Jelissa in the face in her anger and grief. Jelissa took a step back. She looked at the dead Skjor. He wouldn't be dead if they hadn't planned this as a celebration for me, she thought.

”We will wipe them out”, she agreed, her voice feeling unstable and weak.

”I will stay here a little. Make sure Skjor's bones get back to Jorrvaskr for the burial.”

”You do that. I'll go back and tell the others”, Jelissa offered.

The last thing she saw before leaving the room was Aela, kneeling by Skjor's side, cradling his head in her arms, shaking and sobbing.

I also use an appearance mod for werewolves so thats probably the other reason I don't use moonlight tales.

I want to install it. Just fearful it will interfer with mods that don't require it? it doesn't mess with your mod load order or cause mods installed before it was to crash out or corrupt? I got a working order game right now and intend to keep it that way.

It does not interfer with mods that don't use it, also its acts as a launcher that you use to launch the game.

She's hot, I agree, but I think she's a little too fiery for most men's tastes...

Me neither! But I don't regret it so far. :) And:

The following pics were taken after a save point in Red Eagle's Cairn. They are not sequential, nor do they reflect what actually happened. I kept reloading the save to try to get some good pics. A few came out kind of decent.

http://minus.com/lO8VCplOmt4V3 The trick is not to give him a chance to hit you with his flamey greatsword. It hurts.

By the time Bri returned to Old Hroldan, someone had cleaned up the site of the bear massacre http://minus.com/l9b4tHf99S4vA Bri left two amethysts as an offering.

Her loot haul was impressive. Besides Red Eagle's Bane and the Honed Ancient Nord Greatsword of Burning, she got an ebony war axe and bow, 2 elven swords, 2 Circlets of Major Restoration, and a Leather Armor of Restoration, all from the two boss chests. Plus assorted Forsworn gear and other stuff. She's back at Old Hroldan, considering what to do next. What if all the Forsworn camps have loot like this? It makes an adventurer thoughtful.

While she's thinking it over, http://minus.com/l33xREUq4t5Ai Pure RP this time, I don't know what she'll do. She followed Ralof for the first time. And she won't loot bodies. Said something about not being able to carry all that bulky stuff. OMG, she's hardcoe! She's going to eat 3 times a day and sleep every night and carry realistic loads! :ahhh:

Great pics, and I always enjoy your way to talk about your characters. They really do have their own will, don't they?

Sauron's? :lmao:

Teldryn likes them hot too...it seems. Must be that Dunmer fire resistance or lack of.

Very nice!

Ok, all those turned NPCs and fun that YolDovah is having as a vampire increased my appetite to go vampire too. I was still undecided whether to go Dawnguard or Volkihar.

So this is the last time I'll see http://i.imgur.com/ZQM4M6R.jpg as non-vamp. Teldryn, brace yourself!

Thanks. I do that partly just to be entertaining (I hope), but they often do really "talk back" to me. My fictional conversations reflect how they end up doing things that I didn't plan for, or refuse to follow my carefully laid plans.

It fascinates me how the brain creates a space for them and keeps them separate. Brianna has no problem looting everything. Never even occurs to her that it's physically impossible. But this new Buffy, sheesh. She won't pick anything up. I had to pretend that she picked up the knapsack in Helgen Keep, or she would have come out with no loot at all. I may have to abandon stews. ["How am I supposed to carry a bowl of soup?"] There, see what I mean? :bonk:

I should enter Buffy in the next Miss Skyrim Pagent.
