It's not an attempt to look cartoony. The graphics style is still an attempt at looking realistic, just like F3 and FNV. Stop excusing the shoddy graphics by saying it's just their new art style. It's still trying to look realistic(as opposed to say Mario games which try to look cartoony), just with brighter lighting and a brighter palette.
Don't confuse the vocal minority on these forums for the majority, if it were the Fallout franchise wouldn't be coming out with a new AAA release. Most people like it
Even Fallout 3 *takes cover*
I like the trailer's graphics, but since I play on console I'm sure they won't be as good as in the trailer.
If they can make it look like a Pixar movie with campy levels of gore and gruesome dark comedy, I'm f'ing sold. I really like what I've seen; I hope we get to see some close-up shots of the character models, though. The trailer never gave us any close-ups on a face.
Is it a new art style though? Looks exactly the same as Fallout 3 or New Vegas but with a more saturated color palette.
Needless to say, it was a breath of fresh air in Fallout 3, and it's welcome in Fallout 4.
Good art style.
But I don't need to defend Bethesda. They're people after all.
Exactly. It's the same style. People try to pretend that the graphics barely improving is a new style but it's not.
I like the art style. I'd rather have an art style like I saw in the trailer that's reminiscent of a graphics novel or something than the photo-realistic crap the COD kiddies prefer.
To me, games like Borderlands and Dishonored had a great visual vibe, and wouldn't have been nearly as appealing had they been more 'realistic'.
Well, i don't think the "art-style" is that bad for now, or so different, but i don't get why those who think so should not say it. What influence does it have on your own well-being ?
I love the new look. I thinkhttp://i.imgur.com/iMoV0eT.png looks great, and It will look even better actually playing the game.
Every time I watch the trailer it grows on me.
I really LOVE the art-style! In Fallout 3 parts of the 50's themed arts sometimes still looked abit edgy and modern. It seems like they now have improved that, to catch this feel of walking around in a 1950's themed apocalypse with futuristic elements alot better.
Don't listen to criticism Bethesda. Critics. Are. Wrong.
Seriously though, I don't have anything really pressing against the use of colours, but it does give this weird Legolandish feeling in the trailer at certain spots.
I'm more concerned with the possibility of my character having a voice and the plot being terrible. Graphics are not important to me, I play games like Metro Last Light on max settings and I love them, but I also play games like Wasteland 2 which have really dated graphics and I love them too.
If the critics are in the same ratio as the like and dislike ratio of the trailer they really shouldn't listen...
Critism isn't bad at all. It is something VERY important. However false critism is unhealthy and bad.
Let's blindly buy 4 copies of a game we don't even know the system requirements of because we can't figure out that blind loyalty to a company earns us absolutely nothing! Huzzah!!
So far I like what I see with the art style and the graphics. But it's only a few days since the trailer was released, and we don't even have a friggin' release date for the game yet. It's way too early to conclude that the game is the greatest thing EVAH!, just as it's way too early to conclude that it's the biggest piece of [censored] EVAH!
I thought the footage looked very good. The models ( object skeleton ) look good. A closeup of tight curves shows a smooth radius and not blocky arcs. Does it need tweaked? Yes, but not much. Hell, it already looks better than Skyrim with a realistic ENB running.
I could see an additional layer of textures as an improvement and the flashbacks looked rather toony. Nonetheless, I am pleased with what I see.
Exactly. There's some stuff I totally don't like about the trailer, most importantly the Deathclaw.
I hope Fallout 4 won't reintroduce many elements of the other Fallouts. Doing your own thing not only prevents you from messing with established lore, it also makes your game unique and the universe much more believable, diverse and interesting.
