Shows And Movies That Remind You The Most Of Fallout

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKwteCwCSMw - Really corny but Falloutish humor. Can't go wrong with Rowdy Roddy Piper wearing a booby-trapped explosive codpiece.

Yes!

Hey, you try making love in a hostile, mutant environment, see how you like it.

Mad Max, obviously. I can't think of any others - maybe Waterworld? I haven't seen it, but it sounds vaguely similar.

Yep I think I can safely confirm that Waterworld is similar. It's not the same setting, at all... But it's still post-apoclyptic and the floating town makes me think so much of Megaton and Rivet City.

I was actually hoping that one of you guys brought up Waterworld!

I have been trying to find fallout type things to watch so I was wondering what movies and shows remind you of fallout the most, I'll go first:

Series:
I found a series called Jeremiah on my xbox netflix account that was shown on Showtime a couple of years ago. This show reminded me of fallout becasue its all about a devastated world after a virus has left the most of Earths population destroyed. Raiders are everywhere in this show and its a struggle just to survive. Throughout the series the main character goes from place to place helping others (much like the lone wanderer). Most places are ghost towns or full of enemies that want your stuff. There is even a group of the former government militants that want to bring everyone under their control (Enclave anyone?). Anyway the show really reminds me of fallout and is pretty good so far.

Movie:
The movie Book of Eli also reminded me of fallout because of its world being after a nuclear war, every commodity being very important (especially water), and the main character being attacked by raiders all the time. I won't go into explaining it much because its a relatively new movie and I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Your turn!

For me tv show : jericho
And movie : the road warrior.

Well, umm I guess in the parts with The "Smokers" remind me of the raiders and clothing....maybe some of the city parts but I'm sorry Water World is just not the best comparison....its to much of what the title says..."Water World".

Love the movie though!!!

The Road Warrior......forgot to mention that one, it was by far reminds me of Fallout 3 for a classic. The "Sawed-Off Shotgun" was used by Mel Gibson and there is that same weapon in the game, also if you just look at this picture, you get a good idea where the makers got some of their ideas from: http://www.getheroik.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/roadwarrior1.jpg

The suit looks a lot similar to the "Leather Armor" in the game, and the Dog's breed looks like Dogmeat but maybe not the same accept the breed though.

Man, I have to check out some shows now!

A fun one that nobody's mentioned is a film called "Atomic Cafe". It's made entirely out of archive footage from the 50's about the Atom Bomb, and it's really well done. About an hour long, no narrative voice-over, just clips edited together to tell a story. It's hilarious and scary to see the optimism and fear about the bomb in the early days-- the ideas like "fission batteries" and atomic cars and bomb shelters themselves. The educational cartoons and Leave it to Beaver style suburban living bits in Fallout are straight out of the hogwash from the beginning of the A-Bomb age in America.

Well worth renting just for the "Bert the Turtle" cartoon-- the source of the "Duck and Cover" song. Yikes.

Spoiler
Like the recording says in the VaultTec exhibit in the Museum of Technology, "...in the unlikely event that the world is laid to waste, you can be secure in your VaultTec vault!"

Now I gotta go find "Jericho".

The Book of Eli reminded me of Fallout.

Malcom McDowell who gives voice to President John Henry Eden is actually part of the cast in The Book of Eli, as the character Lombardi.

The Turtle cartoon is also seen on poster sometimes, like in ruin schools in the Waste.

Bioshock reminded me of Fallout in the beginning, because of the 1950's Style atmosphere That Bioshock had.

Fallout is basically combination of three things, fifties red scare, b-movies from same era (both sci-fi and horror) and more mainstream post-apocalyptic sci-fi.

When we start discussing mainstream PA sci-fi we have to acknowledge it's roots, spaghetti western. It is basically that where horses, revolvers and lever action rifles have been replaced with cars, motor cycles and machine guns. Imaginary, dialog, pacing, stories and mood are basically same, desperation, corruption, brutality, prostitution and deserts. Budgets and production values are also very similar in a way. There is few high-production value high-budget spaghetti westerns like Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time in The West. There plenty of spaghetti westerns made with fairly decent production values, movies like Keoma, Django and Great Silence. Then there is lot of trash.

Italian movie productions were often exploitation movies, that side of exploitation where they make cheap clones that are usually more violent and have far worse actors than originals. Currently Asylum is US production company that works in sort of similar fashion, produce cheap copy straight to DVD markets, someone might accidentally buy or rent it instead of movie they are actually looking for, them and b-movie fans create big enough audience to make it profitable. Mad Max and Escape from New York were followed by legion of cheap copies. Same happened to Conan the Barbarian, as side note early 80's Italian barbarian movies are absolutely hilarious. You can guess what happened with The Warriors. All of these movies became popular at same time as home video emerged on mass markets, that provided market for crappy straight to video movies. Couple Italian post apcalyptic sci-fi movies worth mentioning are Equalizer 2000, Wheels of Fire and New Barbarians. These are movies that are that crappy that they are good, like usual in B-movies productions were bashed together with extremely low budgets and very tight schedule. With Italian b-movies is also hilarious that same dirctors have done classic movies like Keoma and on flip side of coin there is absolute trash like New Barbarians, both are directed by Enzo Castellari.

There is also plenty of US post-apocalyptic b-movies. Some of those have semi-decent production values, Cherry 2000, Hardware, Blood of Heroes and Steel Frontier are good examples and definitely worth watching.

Edit: Almost forgot about something... sixmission. Polish post-apocalyptic sci-fi comedy from communist era. Cult classic for very good reason. It's events also take place mostly in very vault like environment.

Dies the Fire and its sequels. They're post-apocalyptic books in which people form new "tribes" and have to scavenge and rebuild civilization.

Any good post-apocalyptic zombie movie also comes to mind... and Mad Max, of course.

"Book of Eli" had some great "post apoc" moments (many that I'd love to see emulated in FO:NV & FO4), but [perhaps amazingly, to some] the one film that reminds me the most of Fallout was the recent remake of "The hills have eyes".

Its not related to Fallout, and I couldn't find a single PG13 clip that I could link to, but there are many music videos on Youtube that incorporate the combat scenes; I don't think anyone can watch yet not see the intentional similarities of the film to the game Fallout.

But here is a quick picture...

Or the FO3 version :P

Oh... and there's this bit....

I know this is an old thread, but I just saw "The Road" with Viggo Mortensen.

That movie could have been taken directly from Fallout 3 -- particularly the Point Lookout DLC.

Ok so most of you probably have said most or all of these but here it goes.

TV: Jeremiah, Jericho, and The Colony. All are awesome shows and are pretty much my favorite ones out there.

MOVIES: Mad Max series (2012 Max Mad: Fury Road can't wait) The Road, The Postman, Waterworld and Book of Eli. If you wear the Leather Armor or other varients of on a female character it looks almost identical to Mad Max's Leather Clad outfit from the first two movies.

Wow, that movie was terrible. No offense. The Omega Man (based on the same book) was better, IMO.

Fallout was actually inspired by the http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082694/ films and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072730/

Can't argue with Omega man vs I am Legend here. The Omega Man is awesome. I am Legend ending...not so good.

This one has already been mentioned I'm sure, but the setting of The Book of Eli is very similar to FO. That movie had potential also, but the ending was no good either in my opinion.

Doomsday is another one which reminded me of Fallout. Lots of raider-like goons running around.

I watched Water World for the first time in at least a decade a couple of weeks ago and it reminded me of a Mad Max on water, which reminded me of Fallout.

I know there are more out there, but at the moment that's all I can think of.

What about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THX_1138? A film by George Lucas starring Robert Duval. It has a similar feel of a vault where supposively no-one goes in and no-one leaves, only it's much larger. Not an especially good film but still interesting and it has a lot of parallels with vault life, depending on the vault.

I think they have all been mentioned but for my two caps

1. The book of Eli
2. Doomsday
3. The Road
4. The Mad Max's .......I hear there's work on a new one
5. The Stand ....less the nuclear war part.....OK maybe not soooo much
6. Omega man
7. Logan's Run
8. I am Legend.......I heard talk about a prequel
A possible 9 since I don't remember seeing it but "The Day After"

I am Legend – as in most cases the movie doesn’t do the book justice, and that’s especially true in this case. I believe the book was originally published in the 50’s, and I recall Stephen King saying the author, Matheson, was one of the main writers that inspired him.

I just watched Tim Burton’s “Nine”, the “set” is spot on Fallout 3.
