Shows And Movies That Remind You The Most Of Fallout

Post » Sun Oct 03, 2010 2:03 pm

I have been trying to find fallout type things to watch so I was wondering what movies and shows remind you of fallout the most, I'll go first:

Series:
I found a series called Jeremiah on my xbox netflix account that was shown on Showtime a couple of years ago. This show reminded me of fallout becasue its all about a devastated world after a virus has left the most of Earths population destroyed. Raiders are everywhere in this show and its a struggle just to survive. Throughout the series the main character goes from place to place helping others (much like the lone wanderer). Most places are ghost towns or full of enemies that want your stuff. There is even a group of the former government militants that want to bring everyone under their control (Enclave anyone?). Anyway the show really reminds me of fallout and is pretty good so far.

Movie:
The movie Book of Eli also reminded me of fallout because of its world being after a nuclear war, every commodity being very important (especially water), and the main character being attacked by raiders all the time. I won't go into explaining it much because its a relatively new movie and I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Your turn!

Mad Max is only one, I'm sure there is a couple out there also. One of the most and I mean very, very, much reminds me of Fallout was this newer movie that came out this year called "Book of Eli".

Here is a youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd536Xp8L1c

In this movie there is people that remind me so much of raiders its unreal, and there is any this one part of the movie that reminded of the people at Andale in Fallout 3. If you've haven't traveled there, you must its a very interesting two family's living there and lets just say they have secrets of their own.

The Vault system and the Enclave were probably inspired by Dr. Strangelove. Strangelove's plan was almost identical to the Vaults and the Enclave, with the 100 year limit and complete isolation from the outside world.

Also, loosely, the documentary Day After Disaster which deals with a terrorist nuclear attack in Washington D.C. Of course, there are no similarities besides the nuke, but the post-nuclear environment in the documentary resembled a lot that of Fallout 3.

Otherwise, I don't know anything that comes from a TV or movie theater. There are many books that give a similar environment as Fallout.

This doesnt remind me of the plot or story of fallout but "plan 9 from outer space" just because of the 50's style.

The game is basically 'I Am Legend'.

Only with, you know, a different populace. Dogmeat and I = Will Smith and Sam. ...Yup.

I just thought of another movie that reminds me of fallout, Doomsday. Movies about a year old and deals with a killer virus that is confined to Scotland (I think) through a giant wall to keep the virus and infected people getting out. Eventually the people inside get an immunity to the virus and their own chaotic culture/society. Pretty good movie.

There's a recent Viggo Mortensen movie called "The Road."

It's about a fallout of some kind (never mentioned) where a father and young son have to survive on their own and make it to the West Coast before the next winter. Along the way they deal with cannibalistic parties of Raiders.

It's a really good movie, but it is super depressing.

The Living Dead films by George Romero. While they're not about atomic bombs dropping on the world, they are about the world ending due to zombies coming out and killing off most of the world, and a few survivors trying to make it by. In fact Tenpenny Tower was obviously inspired by that tower from Land of the Dead where all these rich survivors were living while an evil old man running it was murdering people and such, and zombies were trying to get into the tower just like the Ghouls in Fallout 3.

Also the way the "normal" ghouls act like regular people reminds me of what Romero was trying to imply in Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead, that zombies can become intelligent and capable of emotion and will live just like people when all the humans are gone.

I've never seen all of I am Legend. I didn't want to, it just seemed so much different than the book, and, quite frankly, so much worse. I guess I should open my mind and watch it, but... Oh well, I just didn't.

I was going to say that one, but it less reminds me of Fallout only that the fact its after a Fallout.

Here is one, a TV movie I believe called: "The Day After (1983)"

IMDB Link to the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085404/

On topic:
Much of the games were based on the Mad Max Series so I'll say that. Any 50's red scare literature or atomic bomb type stuff really takes me straight to these games.

Water World with Kevin Costner - it's sorta like FO3 only reversed. Instead of a desert wasteland we have a world with too much water. Here, dirt is the precious commodity.

Resident Evil Extinction - Good post apocolyptic zombie-raiders-ghouls-cannibals-mad scientic-evil government-people fighting for their lives-flick. The main character even has some sort of psychic power, like VATS. She's pretty deadly with all sort of weapons, especially her twin blades.

edit: Also, Judge Dredge has some similarities to FO3

These are in order of importance. Also, IMO they are definitive FO3 type movies.

Mad Max
Mad Max: The Road Warrior
Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome
Mad Max: Fury Road (In pre-post-production hopefully it will be just as good as the first three)

Book of Eli

Escape from New York

A Boy and His Dog (Movie and Book)

The Road (I'm gonna go ahead and say the book only as I have not seen the movie yet)

Edit: Escape from LA is not on my list as it was way too over the top. I liked the movie but just feel it does not play into the darkness of the original Escape movie.
