shut up about fast travel!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:37 pm

well, since people seem to be incredibly talented in ignoring the fact that it was ALWAYS optional. i have to say...

what if the gameworld is 1415175185 km squared? are you really going to walk to every single dungeon?

and yes- gigantic game worlds are possible http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeoT_cz2nC0

(edit: i am pro fast travel, and it will be ingame. but i dont see the point of people screaming about how they want it out)

I never got this myself, if you don't like it then just don't use it. How hard is that? Do you really need to spoil the fun for those who like fast travel just because you can't restrain yourself? The attitude of some people.

If you really hate it so much, make a mod that disables it, problem solved. if you're on console, learn some self control, problem solved.

What if it isn't?

I don't really care about the fast travel debate but this is a horrible argument.

Because when the game gives you teleports and mass transit not having fast travel is cool and lets you explore. Having fast travel just means no other methods of travel which is incredibly dull when you don't use it. I mean the game world might be 1415175185 km squared so who wants to walk that?

But since you seem to be incredibly talented in ignoring the fact that choice is what makes games worth playing. I have to say...

Agreed

Useless argument. fast travel is in, and 90% of people knew it would be. deal with it.

Pointless and honestly flame bait thread.

Fast Travel is in. Learn to live with it.

Edit* I should also point out no one is ignoring the fact that it's optional. Most people don't want it removed, they just want a more "believable" or "Role-Play" way to fast travel.

I think the major argument is that if fast travel is in the game then the devs will create quests that rely on using fast travel. So they want the game to not have fast travel and have quests that don't require fast travel.

^this. Also we can't just forget about fast travel and not use it. If our only alternative is on foot or horseback having fast travel is tempting. Like someone said before, it's like bringing a cake into a weight watchers seminar and putting it next to a plate of spinich. Sure you don't HAVE to eat it, but chances our you will.

In a wold the size of Morrowind / Oblivion I don't like fast travel. Which is why I never used it in either of those games.
And I don't care that it was included, I just chose to ignore it's existence.

As for a world the size of Daggerfall, it's kinda necessary.

You mean like having to pay for something like travelling services? That could work pretty well...or maybe even teleportation from the Mages Guild!

Precisely. Though, I will admit if they can make riding a horse as fun/awesome as it is in Red Dead Redemption and give me a incentive to explore (non leveled unique artifacts scattered through out the game world.) I won't care how they do fast travel. Fast travel exists in RDR from anywhere to anywhere if you camp or are in a town, and guess what? I've never once used it because I love exploring the world and riding my horse.

Edit*

Yes, that's what I meant. They could achieve this easily by just having a stagecoach at every city. As for the mages guild it would have to be done by either the college of whispers or the synod. Since the mages guild doesn't exist anymore. (see the Infernal City)

I know people will say it's "pointless" but I'm fine with having both options. Stagecoaches (example) and being able to FT anywhere via my map. Because I have this thing called a will power, and I would never use map fast travel even though it would be the more convenient option. But that's just me

Yeah, if they can make horses fun to ride, then let's keep fast travel. I just want a fun RP alternative.

Like I always say, I haven't found Goku anywhere in game yet I know a version of instant transmision.

I'm all for fast travel. Just work it into the game itself some how. Not some hocus pocus feature that allows you to go anywhere anytime you feel like it. If you wander out in the woods, you should feel scared cause now ya got to walk back. You go out there without thinking and bringing supplies, you should have to pay for it. To hardcoe? Then we'll have to make a casual and a hardcoe version so everyone can get along.

I think the argument is MW fast travel vs OB fast travel, not fast travel or no fast travel. There has never been a TES game without fast travel.

So I was replying to topics about fast travel when suddenly I had an idea. "Make using the forums easier!" So I called the mods and told them my idea. 2 minutes later, boom! Now our lives are easier on the forums! I'm The FBI and locking this thread was my idea.

On-topic: We already have these topics. My opinion remains the same but really this needs to be locked.
