Could someone post a video of this mod? this way, some poor souls would finaly be able to hear it?

yes, this would be great! unfortunately i can't capture video in oblivion.

anyway, the video would not solve your problem. but reading the readme is a good place to start...

I believe you have to use a surround system to really appreciate the difference.
If you play with stereo headphones it can still make a small impact (good headphones and sound card helps too).

Encoding a video for youtube, for instance, can cut down the channels and you would be hearing it in 2.0 stereo... Maybe I am wrong here though.

no, i play with stereo headphones. the difference is HUGE! i think, but this may just be a subjective impression, that EAX takes care for where a sound comes from in the 3D space even if you don't use CMSS-3D... but the reverb itself sounds even mono for me.

Fraps.

yes. i said i CAN'T, not i don't know how. fraps and ANY other tool that makes the same crashes my oblivion instantly.

Actually, I did.

fine! now you know how to get it to run or if you don't succeed, what information you should post here, if you want someone to help you...

I have to add some positive feedback and say that I love this mod. This is something that should have been included in vanilla Oblivion! Crawling through caves and hearing the distant voices of Marauders or various monster growls actually makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck! Caves really sound like caves! The panting from Realistic Fatigue sounds cool, too!

It really seems to enhance Oblivion's already good 3D surround sound. I play using an X-Fi with Audio-Technica A700 headphones, and the effect is awesome! I like games with good sound effects, and this mod really makes Oblivion shine.

You're right. Just tested with a Sennheiser headphones and the sounds are really much better with EAX. Thanks!

- is your sound card EAX capable?

Well, I am pretty sure it is, my sound card is not that old... but I don't know.
- try it in other games!

Yes, it is working in Risen.
- do you run windows 7?

No.
- type 'enableEAX' to the console, then 'SetEAXenv -1 10'...

I did, but the console would not let me save it, it say ''something is missing or idk''

OK, if you want us to help solve your problem, please provide some actually useful info on your hardware and possibly a step-by-step summary of your installation process of this mod. Post your dxdiag report (IN SPOILER please). Google it if you don't know how. Only that will move things somewhere.

Realtek's HD Audio devices, despite being stated as a feature, do not have the "real" EAX support, meaning all the calculations are CPU-based. And it's broken in many ways thanks to Realtek's poor driver support. And now we actually know what Windows are you on - Vista.

Creative's devices need Alchemy for EAX to work on past-XP systems. Your Realtek HD needs Realtek 3D SoundBack, which hasn't been updated for quite a long time, i.e. buggy. Or maybe Alchemy will work for you, I'm not quite sure about that. Now use this information as you wish, but if I were you I'd saved myself time and nerves and bought an X-Fi or moved on.

And by the way, Risen doesn't have EAX. It uses a custom reverb system.

The example video does not showcase the mod properly. As far as I can tell most of the effects in it come from forcing EAX in the soundcard control panel. I do not get the echo effects present in the video without forcing EAX environmental effects in the soundcard control panel. I have made sure to follow all the instructions and advice in the forum so far, have enabled EAX via ALchemy (I run vista and have a creative sound card), and the in game console shows that EAX is enabled and that the mod is working (environment variables change between rooms).

I have tried both versions of oblivion EAX plugin too.

It sounds great without any forcing. This way you will miss reverberations in PC-NPC dialogues, on music (even better this way) and a couple of less noticeable sound effects, but everything else will be like in the video. Try to pump your EAX volume to its maximum and check if you'll hear any reverb.

The EAX volume in the creative control problem seems to only change the volume of the effect when it is forced and doesn't seem to effect overall use of EAX in games. Any other way to boost the effect? I can only conclude that it doesn't work for me but have no idea why. Tried soundscaper and that also doesn't work, so it would seem the EAX plugin doesn't work for me for some reason.

No, there's no other way to boost it globally, and I really don't know why your slider doesn't affect anything without forcing. Does EAX works for you in other games? Update your X-Fi drivers.

Regarding the mod, double check that all necessary components are properly installed.

nice point of view... please excuse me that i use a video with the mod actually working like it should. ;)

to solve such a problem you should at least consider the mistake at your side. i'm sure this is not a problem of the effect volume. try the console commands! run oblivion in xp mode! check the oblivion eax log in the obse folder!

besides this i personally (which means i don't want to discuss this) recommend to upgrade to windows 7 which is much better and more stable, etc... this may fix your issue as a side effect...
