[RELz] Side's EAX Control

Post » Sat Jul 10, 2010 5:02 pm

I'm sorry. I could not disagree more. It has nothing to do with codecs or drivers or Operating Systems (per se).

The technical audio issues with BMS have to do with the EnhancedMusicControl.dll obse plugin.
(There are issues that I don't want to discuss, like using a creature (detect life, anyone?) instead of an activator a la streamline's "Angel", for instance)

The problems I am having are known side effects of the plugin itself, due to the way it modifies Oblivion audio.

What's more, there are more users than I that have trouble with this mod, due to different computer setups.
The most interesting part is that there are known fixes for the problems that users are experiencing.
(From CorePC's advice on the version of the plugin, to the compatibility modes under Win7 64bit, to Oblivion.ini configurations.)

Only a fool would deny the existence of these issues and refrain to keep a documented place for consultation.

yes, you are right. but technically... the audio issues also 'have to do with' your ears. you can't conclude any causal relation here. if you fart and then disable your nose, the smell is gone of course. but ONLY A FOOL would propagate the simplest (but obviously wrong) conclusion in a rude, overconfident and embarrassing manner, pretending to know everything, but just looking for a scapegoat (the nose, or EMC).
in fact, cutting off your nose would also help to solve the issue, but i prefer to eat less beans (don't use codecs)! you can cut off your nose (play without music), but in this case i have to ask you: who is the fool??

besides this, i am not responsible for any issues with EMC. why should i open a new topic about BMS to discuss a plugin from another author?? not to forget, there is a topic about EMC already.

btw, i HAVE to use a creature to trick the game engine to keep playing the battle music, otherwise it would cut off the music in the moment of death of the last enemy, preventing any possibility to softly fade out the battle music.
that you propose using an activator instead proves how much you know here: nothing, but yelling it out LOUD! again, really embarrassing.

so please keep whining if you want. others just reinstall windows... if you did that and still have the same issue, come back here and condemn me. until then, shut up!

Hearing things? I posted a youtube video so you can hear. Check the thread in hardware forum.

I fixed my problems without having to format my drive. And you didn't help, other people did.

By the way. Does your mod work without EMC?

So that there is a central location to discuss issues with the mods in question.

I don't recall anyone saying that you were responsible for EMC, least of all you.

Having a centralized location to post issues and potential workarounds that are short of the most involved fix (reinstalling an entire operating system) which may not be as thorough could be found to work well enough. I think Ulrim found two potential workarounds but in separate threads destined to sink to the bottom fast.

I have no idea why you are so sore over this whole sound mod issue. It is strange. I even went back and read the previous threads and specifically my posts to see if I had unduly offended you then too. I could not find the offending posts there either. I truly thought you were joking earlier in this thread and if I thought you weren't I would not have been as sarcastic.

You attitude has taken a few by surprise. I recall having great exchanges with you over the backpacks and sailing ships - I like your work. I think it fair to say that most really appreciate your work. But I think it unrealistic to expect to state that all mod conflcits are already known or that there are none or to not document potential conflicts as with BMS. Or even better post potential solutions.

Who knows perhaps an official thread would inspire someone to take up work on an improved EMC much like you were inspired to improve soundscaper.

yes. of course, as i wrote before, cutting off the nose would also 'fix' the smell. really smart. did you actually understand my last post?

I have no idea why you are so sore over this whole sound mod issue. It is strange.

ok, i will try to explain my 'attitude':

1. the k-lite codec pack is known to cause MANY troubles with MANY games and other software. not only oblivion. of course there are workarounds like not using EMC for the one problem with oblivion, but all the other problems still persist. (even if you don't recognize it now, you may have weird issues that you don't associate with codecs yet!) plus: the k-lite 'uninstaller' is known to work incorrectly.

2. windows is known to get really unstable gradually, so a reinstall is necesary from time to time anyway. especially if you installed and uninstalled much software. most 'cleaning tools' are rated as placebo from serious pc magazines. if your windows installation becomes 'old', you will experience much more CTDs with games like oblivion or at least reduced performance.

3. if you run that much software on your machine that reinstalling windows once is more pain than the permanent issues with a dirty system, you should consider installing a game only windows to a separate partition. this would take about 2 hours including the oblivion install. this seperate version would be much cleaner, faster, easier to reinstall.

4. windows 7 has a system image feature. after installing all software and drivers and setting up everything you take a snapshot of your clean, customized, fully working windows partition. 'reinstalling' takes only 10 minutes in the future in case you accidently installed crap.

5. reinstalling windows takes much less time than trying to find workarounds, testing weird solutions, posting endless messages, etc...

now, please try to be really honest: what would you suggest me to do, if i had that issue?

I actually really don't doubt that it is the most complete answer, but that is not really what I was getting at.

What I was getting at was your apparent aggression toward any answer than your own and your disinterest in creating a forum thread for discussion of the mod.

And general orneriness. What exactly did Ulrim do that really necessitated telling him to shut up? You seem totally cool with being really rude and really it seems either a person has to post agreeing with you, supporting you, or not getting one thing wrong in their post or you will come down on them like a ton of bricks and seem bent even on censorship about issues.

Creates an atmosphere were communication is not welcome, where there is hostility, where one either takes your word for everything or they should shut their mouth.

I'm sure anyone who has read even a few of my posts could tell that I hardly have thin skin - I'm not offended by you - just surprised.

what would you suggest me to do, if i had that issue?

- Run Oblivion in WinXP compatibility mode (in my case I have Win7 64).
- Use correct Oblivion.ini settings such as bDSoundHWAcceleration=1 and comment out ;bUseSoftwareAudio3D, if you have it.
- If you experience problems with EMC, I fixed it by disabling Music in the ini (bMusicEnabled=0), running Oblivion and then set bMusicEnabled=1

Of course, this is subjective to my hardware. I have regular backups but now is just not the time to make disk images.

Also, there may be more things, I just don't feel inclined to delve into it anymore.

Jesus Side, I've read through these pages and have seen a great mod go to a sub-standard mod by way of your attitude. You offer a solution that works in your mind, refute other possible solutions, all while being more of a jerk than I'd imaged someone of your "calibre". If this is how you treat people who find CONSTUCTIVE, educated issues with your coding, go take your toys and pull them. Save us all the hassle. Many other modders have to put up with feedback that you only dream of, and still are much more friendly and outgoing than you. (CorePC, Hex0ff, Skycaptain) Seriously bro, if the feedback gets to you so much, save us all the trouble and just pull your work. Go be another Giskard and save us the trauma.

disinterest in creating a forum thread for discussion of the mod.

What exactly did Ulrim do that really necessitated telling him to shut up?

there is no need to discuss BMS (and if someone has issues, there's still the nexus thread). i am not responsible for EMC, can't help anyway because i don't have a clue how it works and there IS already a thread about it. so i am not interested in starting any topic about a discussion i don't want to participate. what's wrong with this? does this necessitate calling me a fool?? please answer that question, don't beat around the bush again.

can't YOU start the topic if you need it??

in general, i don't like to discuss anyone's attitude here. this is totally off topic and should be sent by PM if needed. this is not censorship, it's the way a forum works: STAY ON TOPIC!

here are the two points again that made me (necesary or not) tell him or her to shut up. i already explained why. it's in this and the other post. just read it again.

(There are issues that I don't want to discuss, like using a creature (detect life, anyone?) instead of an activator a la streamline's "Angel", for instance)

Only a fool would deny the existence of these issues and refrain to keep a documented place for consultation.

no one found any issues with MY CODING in this thread, until now. especially not related to the mod this topic should be about. you just prove that you did not read this topic carefully and most likely only want to discuss my 'attitude', too. that you do it in public (and off topic) instead of sending me a PM is another indication that you just seek for applause from the others that do the same, but also don't have to share ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE (about THIS mod).

if this is to traumatic for you, consider consulting a therapist.

@ ALL:

please, if you are halfway advlt, stay on topic! i just want to improve this mod and help people (who have read the readme) solving trouble with it.

recent changes:

- added a 'treat as...' feature to the tuning fork (more info in the readme)
- it's possible to change the effect for single exterior cells now, but not for the whole tamriel worldspace
- added some settings to the ini

Run "dxdiag" and generate report.
Also, I believe alchemy only works with creative sound cards.

I've been using this mod now, and sorry, but it sounds like everything but the outdoor exteriors take place in a great concrete auditorium. And every room size is either 1.9 or 7.5, it seems.
Though, I think the same of NWN2s EAX. It all sounds too fake, metallic. This is especially prominent when cottages made out of wood sounds like great stone tunnels or the like...

It gets better after tweaking the room size and diffusion/effect volume a bit, but I have to do this for almost every cell.

Does it mean my sound card doesn′t support EAX?

thank you

I have the same integrated Audio chip as you and it supports EAX out of the box.

Don't bother with Alchemy :whisper:

(or other operating system related stuff. )

if you think you have to do this, you obviously did not read the readme or you never had a look into the ini file. and therefore i assume you did something wrong...

besides this your subjective description of the effect doesn't help here, read the readme to find out what information i need.
