Side Quest Co-Op?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:09 pm

So after 3 days of searching these forums, i come across lots of topics about multiplayer. And most of the answer has been NO. But how about doing side quests you have finished, Then play with someone else and collect loot, like scrolls? But you guys have been saying you don't want the other player to yell in your ear... Which is why there should be a lobby with a 15 seconds countdown, so you can try to know them before you play? I really don't think side quest you have done and to play it with a person your age would kill the single-player action (and remember pros and cons, saying its bad will not help me).

This is Bladestorm, saying please put your comments below!

No multi-player, no co-op, not happening, been beaten to death, resurrected, beaten to death again, still not happening.

I would absolutely love co-op, as seen by my signature. Full blown multiplayer though... No. Save that for a future game, possibly an MMO, or one that would be fun with a group of people. I'd love completing quests and dungeon diving alongside my younger brother. There's so many RPGs that would be much more fun in my opinion with a co-op feature, and it's not like the people who say otherwise would be forced to play it that way if they didn't want to.

No.

I actually wouldn't mind local co-op with a mate beside you - it would basically be like a companion, except the AI isn't crap. No online co-op nonsense though. And TES aren't games where you can just "load up" a quest, so re-doing quests in co-op makes absolutely no sense.

Ok, a side quest is a quest seprate or not involved with your main quest, right?
And after you finish one i was hoping maybe play you can it with your friend (via xbox live or PSN) if he/she is done with the side quest too then share your loot when you are done :D.

But if you're done with a side-quest then it is, by definition, done. It's not like the Dark Brotherhood will say "Go kill Jimmy!" "..." "Alright, now go kill him again, with a mate this time!".

Have you played a TES game before?

I thought that you could do it for loot or you know, just play with your best friend, and not just let them watch you.

Dungeon Raiding with a friend could be fun, i wouldn't take it any further than that. Only 2 people, no story breaking things. Maybe just a free roam for dungeons that would drop random loot at the end of the dungeon. It's not going to happen though, Bethesda doesn't do multiplayer... doesn't mean it cant be fun though.

Why, there would still be a single player option... and i don't mean it in a offensive way.

yeah your idea is a little convoluted given that in TES you cannot redo quests.

Then why not just do it Fable 2-style, with your friend able to join in with their character in real-time and follow you. Much like MW/OB companion mods, but with the companion controlled by real players... This would be even easier to implement on consoles, if the characters can just be tied to profiles.

Exactly what i am thinking but some people don't want to say yes because they are afraid, afraid of what you might ask? Change, some do not want to accept change... Anyways thank you for your comment yours has the most effort, pros/cons. they will just say no but you put some effort...

But what if you could? you think in the present, but not the future. Betheda might make it that so it might, who knows?

i seriously doubt they will because they tend to make their games with a large does of realism, in the sense that you can't rescue timmy from trolls multiple times and such.

I'm against co-op on principle, but if I knew that it were going to be implemented in some form, I would want it to be in the least invasive way possible, and your idea is pretty much that.

Basically, I would want co-op to have ABSOLUTELY ZERO effect on the world at large, or really on any NPC or location in the game at all. I would not want there to be ANY material that can only be played in co-op mode. I would not want the second player to leave any trace of existence after the co-op session. I would want all major quests and events to be deactivated during co-op. Essentially I would want co-op to be for friends to go dungeon crawling for loot/experience/fun and nothing more. All loot would either be liquidated at the end of the session and given to the "main" character, or else stored somewhere safe to be retrieved after the session.

But ideally, and for the sake of simplicity if nothing else, there would not be any co-op to begin with. So I voted "No."

You probably know that Bethesda doesn't do multiplayer so I won't say anymore then that on the subject. Did you know though that it isn't that easy to implement multiplayer into a game especially with co-op. Any kind of multiplayer takes a huge amount of effort to implement and trying to put in co-op would be even more difficult then the typical multiplayer game play because of all of the balancing issues and technical issues that would need to be overcome. Also there is another problem which is that they would have to redo almost every part of the game systems and how the series has functioned to even be able to implement more then a simple non-rpg deathmatch.

PS. If they decided to do the above either the game wouldn't be as good or the game would have a long delay in order to implement it.

Arena, Morrowind, and Oblivion...

Then you will see that your proposal of re-doing quests in co-op simply would not work in a TES game as we know it. The whole game format would have to be changed to something completely unrecognisable.

Also, edit your posts, don't double (or triple, or quadruple) post.

TES is all about the single player. Tacking on some half assed multiplayer feature sounds like a waste of resources to me.

God forbid we want to play a game WITH our friends. IMHO nothing would be better than exploring the world of Tamriel with a friend, but I forgot that we can't have multi-player because....why? It's never manditory. You can always play a single player game and get the exact same TES experience you would playing any of the other TES games. So there isn't one good reason to not include some type of co-op game play besides the fact that people just don't want it. Sure some mechanics might need be tweaked a bit for a co-op session....

BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLAY CO-OP IF YOU DON'T WANT TO. Why do people want to control my game play experience by deciding who I can play with?

Oh they can have lots of companions in the game that's fine, but a human controlled companion? Nope, screws up the WHOLE experience... An experience that you wouldn't even have to play if you didn't want to....
