Side walking and ladder animations

In Oblivion, your character always faced forward. In Skyrim, he now faces the direction of the camera.

Wow walking animations in Oblivion look horrid when compared to Skyrim.

Pretty stupid?...The walking animation svcked in all Beth games... im just taking everyone's personal opinion about the old god awful animations, then seeing if they think it would be in this one... Not to hard is it now...

so if you would strafe sideways, the character should face that way? But he doesn't look that way, so he's strafing. If you want him to face sideways turn around.

And that video proves nothing, they could just use free camera around the character like you could with Morrowind and Oblivion.

Of course it's free-camera! There would be no other way to get a shot like that. I'm just pointing out that in Skyrim your character now faces the direction the camera is facing.

I see what you mean, it's hard to tell but if you look hard enough you can see his head is sorta turned. Definitely cool, less robotic.

You did a pretty horrid job describing what you were getting at. It wasn't until I saw the vid that I got what you meant. Learn to use language, it's the only way of communicating online.

Having at last seen your point, I think Skyrim will do a better job at it. I never really had that much problem with it in past games however. I guess I was able to ignore it.

I think you are getting mixed up, yes the camera always faced forwards in oblivion, but by holding the middle mouse button (or the left bumper button on xbox I think) you could rotate the camera to face anyway while walking forwards.

I think this is what they have done with the Skyrim posting on the site you linked to, the camera will still normally be behind the Character but you can hold a button and swing the camera to where ever you want it to be.

It will never be like dragon age or GTA games as examples where when you use the left button/point stick left the character will turn their body and run left not straife (sp).

Which I think is what you meant originally by saying side walk.

already ben answered lol.

I think the Character is looking at someone or something as they are walking past, this also happened in Oblivion i seem to remember, nothing to do with the way the camera is pointing........or I hope not anyway as my character will be constantly looking at the ground as I like the camera to be directly behind but up higher than the character.

That is exactly what he means. Ok, before I tell you why the diagonal walking/running animation is likely to be in Skyrim let me just say that it's not something that ever really concerned me because i play in first person exclusively(the way the game is intended to be played, yes 3rd person was tagged on).

Ok having said that here is why it's going to be in this time. Prior to Skyrim, Bethesda's games had absolutely no animation blending.

While you're at it, please Bethesda get rid of Michael Jacksonish diagonal running from the previous games because it looks so weird in 3rd person! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV97mahRgpY
I am playing Divinity saga now and it feels the difference.

Oh my eyes! I'm sure the Creation engine will do them justice. In first person it's not noticeable but the npc's still need good animations.

The youtube link is supposed to demonstrate that it's not a Gamebryo issue. Divinity is on Gamebryo.

Finally I understand what these crazy people are talking about.

I can sidewalk my giraffe 1 mile per foot to school but still yes I know what this is talking about is sidewalking but the way you described it is confusing me more than this sentence because at least I read this sentence with understanding that it won't make much sense while your endless 1-liners don't help anything.

Yes, I would like strafing animations that turn my feet as my movement direction (not viewing direction) changes.
Also, please put this guy's video on the first post. Nobody might not understand what you're not trying to say if you don't do it like that.

Although I must say that running forward while tapping the Left/Right buttons made for the quite interesting hover maneuver.

The reason i believe their in the game is that, they spent so much time making dragon animations, so it wouldn't be to hard to make these....

This is what i want to be fixed... "Sidewalking"............

Does the Skyrim clip really show us anything? He could be facing forward and not "sidewalking" as has been claimed. It might work the exact same way in Oblivion. I definitely don't think the few second clip is enough to say that the PC in Skyrim is looking where the camera is pointing and not forward out of his hood.

(did that make sense?)

Strafing and diagonal walking are two separate things. Strafing is side stepping. There is nothing wrong with the strafing animation in OB/FO3.
