Side with empire or rebels?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:02 pm

i've only played stormcloack so far, but ulfric is not a thalmor agent. it says 'asset' in the dossier, but if you read the whole thing he was basically brainwashed into thinking his coerced information helped in the capture of the empire. and it further says that he is totally unreceptive to the thalmor. reading on, it says that he should be subtly assisted to fight the empire but without him knowing he is receiving thalmor help. the thalmor knew forcing the empire to crackdown on talos worship would ignite a civil war, thus weakening the empire and making it easier for the thalmor to conquer.

i've never heard a single line of dialogue from ulfric suggesting he is racist. ambient dialogue between him and his general are done very well, and shows a much different side to him than what i see portrayed on the forums. and if you're an elf, a khajiit, or an orc, you can still join and be honored by the stormcloaks...i fail to see the racism in that.

while personally, i believe every nation has a right to self rule, it is in the best interest of skyrim (the world really) to form a united front to defeat the thalmor. when the thalmor are eradicated, that is the time to wage a civil war. very interested in hearing the empire side of things.

i thought bethesda did a nice job layering the story, as there really is no clear cut right or wrong side. valid arguments can be made for both sides.

I'll probably go with the Empire, which is currently the only thing that somewhat keeps the Thalmor from stomping all over Tamriel.
For my RP character it's a much better cause than playing the angsty rebel. :disguise:

Whoa, this again? :D We had like... 3-4 full (36-48 pages) threads, or maybe even more discussing this since the 11.11, and only last week it somehow settled down :)

P.S. Empire all the way.

It basically comes down to a choice between brains and brawn. The Empire is working to overthrow the Thalmor in a way that is smart; they are taking a realistic look at the situation and responding with the strategy that is most likely to ahcieve the best results for humanity. The Stormcloaks are tough guys who punch everything in sight and hope that everything will all work out; they feel that they are In The Right and should stick to their guns come hell or high water.

Now, I might seem biased towards the Empire, and I am, but I also admit that in some fiction, particularly fantasy fiction, a hero who goes head-on even though it is very stupid and shouldn't work often wins anyway. And guys with good intentions who prefer cunning over heroic confidence are painted as weaklings, traitors, and usually bad guys.

So the question is: which kind of story do you want to be in?

i think they give you just enough info to side either way so i am gonna try both , but since one side tried to cut my head off FIRST and then no less then 5 minutes later the other side attacked me anyway i say its a bit off a toss up. I am gonna go with the stormcloaks first they didn't try to cut my head off knowing i was innocent and some of those empire types knew i was innocent and were just willing to go through the motions.....

the treaty (white-gold concordat) with the Thalmor was not a bad idea. It was either do that or have more men slaughtered. The Empire is just biding it's time to strike back. The Empire wants peace, Ulfric wants power.

Wow, that has got to be the shallowest rationale possible :)

The empire seems to be the best choice IMO. I totally understand some pof the stormcloaks point of view (banning the worship of Talos really was a nasty thing to do, but to the Nords and the Empire), but i cant help but feel that if the stormcloaks win, it will just mean a major defeat to the Thalmor a few years in the future. Skyrim is an important place to the empire, and if they leave, the empire will be severely weakened and most likely unable to hold off the Thalmor attack that will come. After that, what makes Ulfric think they wont attempt to conquer an independant Skyrim, and whats makes him think they wont succeed? Skyrim cannot stand alone against the Thalmor, and if they withdraw from the empire, thats exactly what they will be faced with.

the empire had you locked up in jail ...

seems the empire allways take a "good" start for the players in all previous TES installments

im in doubt thou with the empire, if only i could hear them say WHY they had a deal with the thalmor, even a simple deal goes beyond my grasp imo

After barely surviving during the war, they didnt have many options.True, the thalmor were weakend by the war, but were in a much better state than the empire.

And you can gurantee they are rebuilding, faster then the empire, since its not dealing with insurection.

I helped the empire so we can stand united against them. Despite what every one says, the empire and dominion are not on the best of terms, its an uneasy truce, a truce which many in the imperial ranks dont like to support. The dominions time will come(hopefuly in a dlc :toughninja: )

Stormcloaks all the way! Why would you want to serve the empire? Even though I'll probably start a new game and join the epmire to get all the achievements...

Well since the empire tried to execute me I sided with the storm cloaks. But after completing their campaign I felt like I made the wrong decision. Because of the racism and I stabbed some people in the back that I didn't really want to betray. So if I started over I'd go with the empire

i am really torned about what side to support. i am now at lvl 41 and still havnt been able to decide.
in previous titles i have always been a champion for the empire. but the empire dosnt seem to be what it used to be.

first they tried to behead me whitout any cause.
later on i saw imperials attacking a civilian farm, killing everyone!
and just recently i ran into 3 imperial soldiers who tried to rob me of 100 gold?!

however i strongly suspect that ullfric has something to do whit the dragons returning, or who ever controls the dragons has something to gain from the rebellion.

no, ancient nord heroes used an elder scroll and sent alduin forward in time. also, the "civil" war is just a thalmor plot to keep the empire weakened. no they do not want the Stormcloak Nords to win either, an imperial victory would be terrible for them.

Ulfric's "free" skyrim is bound to end badly, the empire would come back to claim it with more soldiers,or worse, the thalmor would invade it as it's not part of the empire anymore so they would just have to face the nords that would not receive backup.

Besides,Ulfric is considered an "asset" to the Thalmor.
