ok so I go to do this one and the ledger is in the bedroom behind the desk BUT the arrow to change it is showing upstairs and I cannot make the change. Has anyone ever run into this before? If so how did you handle it. It has happened on both times I have played Skyrim (the Vanilla version and this time with all the Dlc's installed.)

Xbox 360 game console is all I have to play on.

It's broken. Go back to delvin and quit the job and ask for A new one

It's a known bug (Unofficial Patch fixes it for PC players) that also affects the Drunken Huntsman. 50% change in each location of the target being another static ietm, instead of the ledger. Since only the ledger has the script to allow changing, you stuck with a return to Delvin for a new quest.
